Firstly, the Steinberger tuners are fantastic. They stay in tune for months, which is in part due to Epiphone's fantastic stopbar tailpiece and Tune-O-Matic bridge combination. The pickups are true to the Firebird's roots, pumping out some soul-crushing tones in both nech and bridge positions. The low end is fantastic, but the higher frequenceis are a bit muddled, but other than that, this guitar serves its namesake well for its blueseyness. The one issue I had with mine is that the bridge tone pot was shorting out the pickup, causing very low output from the bridge. 15 bucks and a new tone pot and all was well. This guitar is as beautiful as it is wonderful to play, much due to its satin finish, which is both nice to look at and nice to play, as it makes the neck very fast and comfortable. Overall, this is a great guitar, and if you want to stand out from all those Strats and Les Pauls, this is a great option.

I bought this guitar as I thought it would be an inexpensive way to get a Firebird back into my arsenal. I bought a 1976 Gibson Bicentennial Edition Reverse Firebird in '76 and sold it a few years back. I've been playing for 40 years now and suffer from G.A.S. so I've seen my share of guitars good, bad, and in between. This guitar is mostly what people claim it to be except for one glaring flaw; the body is not made of solid wood. It certainly is not a solid mahogany body. Most likely (and sadly) veneer over some type of particle board. The satin finish to me seems somewhat lifeless. Knocking on the under-weighted body yields a distinctly disappointing hollow sound. This Firebird deserves better. I can accept the set vs. through neck, but a cheap body on an otherwise nice guitar was unacceptable. I choked up the shipping cost and returned the guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Firebird Studio Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar as a back up to my Gibson firebird. Ive owned one for 4 years now. It plays awesome, sounds great, and I love the tuners. I moved the strap button to the back of the guitar like how my gibson is. Cured the neck diving. I would recommend buying this guitar. Great instrument for intermediate to advance player.

Review of Firebird

By David McKenzie

from Washington State

Comments about Epiphone Firebird Studio Electric Guitar:

I'm giving this guitar a five out of 10 stars mainly because I was very disappointed in the workmanship, or lack there of. I ordered and recieved this guitar a few months ago and I initially loved the feel, and I still do. My disappointment was when I got it home, pluged it into my amp and instantly noticed problems with the pickups. Upon further examination I found that the wiring was totally messed up and the bridge pickup wasn't even hooked up. So instead of playing my Firebird at a gig I had to take it in to be completely redone. So I'm wondering who the "inspector" was that gave this piece of crap the okay to be sent out. I know this, my money has to be spent on quality items and I should expect the product I buy to work. I won't be giving Epiphone my business any more.

Comments about Epiphone Firebird Studio Electric Guitar:

I've read some of the other reviews on this guitar and honestly i can say that you people are way to picky. There is nothing wrong with this guitar. I bought this guitar 3 years ago and I can honestly say i have no need to buy another. It may be a little bottom heavy but its a "studio" guitar which means its meant to be played sitting down. Not playing 3 hour sets, although this guitar does deliver if you need it for that purpose. it playes wonderfully, looks beautiful and sounds amazing. My former banmate who plays nothing but schecter said this was an amazing guitar and he couldnt believe i got it for the price i did. If you are looking for a great guitar look no further. Here it is

I'll tell you the reason people don't like this guitar: It wasn't built for Metallica. This is a killer guitar. The neck pickup is perfect for classic to hard rock-style soloing. The neck pickup is perfect for something along the lines of Albert King style blues. This guitar has not let me down yet. Great deal.

Comments about Epiphone Firebird Studio Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar for my birthday a year ago, and I have to say, I was really disappointed, for two reasons: It doesn't stay in tune well, and I hate how it plays compared to my $250 Epiphone G-310 SG. The SG kicks this guitar's butt. I would NOT recommend this guitar to anyone.

New Bird!

Comments about Epiphone Firebird Studio Electric Guitar:

Just picked up a brand new Firebird except in a beautiful Korina finish, I don't think they made many of these and other than the finish I believe they are the same as this studio model. The guitar came well setup with only the slightest setup requiredit sounds great for blues-rock and yes it is just a touch neck heavy but I may try and "weight" the bottom a little to balance it out since it's a pretty light guitar. The neck is amazing and the tuners once adjusted properly will not the guitar go out of tune.Overall I think the newer Epiphones are really great, in fact I have been collecting many of them and play professionally and gig regularly with them.

Comments about Epiphone Firebird Studio Electric Guitar:

I decided I needed to buy this guitar after playing it in the local music store. Hands down, it was the most comfortable I ever felt playing a guitar not in the comfort of my own home. Not sure why people are saying that the pups are muddy - I believe they're the same alnico humbuckers that come in most epi guitars, which when you play through a decent amp really rip. The neck pickup has a really good punchy sound. All in all this guitar is great, solid, stays in tune. The neck is a bit wider than your average guitar too, which is perfect for chord shapes if you have big hands like me. Also great for shredding, it doesn't feel like you're playing a toy.

Comments about Epiphone Firebird Studio Electric Guitar:

I'v had this beautiful guitar(sunburst) for 5 years now. But it just hangs on my wall. The neck is heavy, you have to hold it up from falling down when your strapped in. The alinco minis suck bad in my opinion, they sound really cheap. But the worst part is it goes out of tune almost instantly after using the whammy. I'd rather play my sons squier mini.

Comments about Epiphone Firebird Studio Electric Guitar:

I bought this and have to tell you the tuners are to die for...the pickups are nice and clean sounding, guitar sure stays in tune, Now for what I don't like, I don't like the cheap body, it was spared for the tuners and pickups, I think it is laminated and I dont know whats under that wood? I saw a pictures of a dinged one and saw the lamination chipped off...looked like a particle type wood under it, it is light..Its also a bit bulky in tight areas and can bump into things....it's a show guitar, but with that big headstock, be carefull... it is fun to play and watch...Jim

Epiphone Firebird Studio

Comments about Epiphone Firebird Studio Electric Guitar:

I bought my '08 Epi FB Studio WC very used and cheap because I can't even take my Gibson FB-V out of the case without worrying about it. I figured I'd use it as a knockabout (like the previous owner obviously had done) and I am very pleased with the purchase, not only because I paid low for it but because of the results it gives. I found the worn cherry red finish and lack of raised center to be boring, but I've learned to live and love. I added a Bigby B5 to it and the thing still stays in tune very well. It's neck-heavy, and dive was a problem, so I solved it by moving the front strap pin to the back at the neck joint where a Gibson would be and it's a bit better. The stock pickups are pretty good for a standard overdriven rock sound. It's very well built. My only complaint is the tuners which really do stay in tune great but are a pain when changing strings. I found a pair of vice-grips are almost needed when pulling the string tight to clamp them down and a wrench to tighten the clamps enough to hold. All-in-all I totally got my money out of it and love to play it; I could see myself owning it for many years.

Comments about Epiphone Firebird Studio Electric Guitar:

Recently purchased this from this site, and wow was I surprised when it got into my hands, the photographs online really do not do the finish on these guitars justice. The tone of the guitar is superb, it has all the crunch of the epi les paul, but brings out more high end tone, really great sounding, the string-through design, is really unique and took a little getting use to when I re-strung it ( I don't bother playing on factory strings anymore) its wonderfully light weight too, you can play this axe for hours and not even feel it.

The Best!!!

By Anonymous

Comments about Epiphone Firebird Studio Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar after researching it and without playing it.When i got it it was in perfect condition and the action was perfect. It plays everything from RocknRoll to Blues perfectly. The color is much darker than the picture.Similar to as SG.The neck is straight and the frets are georgesly done. The only problem i had at all was figuring out how to change strings. If you miss the obvious method like me just go to the Steinberger website and find the instructions because its very simple.Speaking of the tuners theyre excellent and they make string changing a breeze. If your a Strat style player this guitar might feel a little awkward at first with the neck heaviness and unusual body but with a few hours of play time youll be just fine.Overall the best guitar ive ever bought.

Awesome version of the Firebird!

By xrayex

from Southern PA

Comments about Epiphone Firebird Studio Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar about a year ago and after a couple of alterations, really like it. It's different than the "classic" style Firebirds (no mini humbuckers for one thing) but not necessarily bad different. Definitely a different kind of tone though. Yeah, it's a little bit neck heavy (like all Firebirds) but it's not terrible. The fretboard is very smooth, a breeze to play and the neck is a little wide which makes the string spacing awesome for fingerstyle playing...for that alone I love this guitar. It's got a nice, solid feel and great sustain. The pickups on mine were actually pretty decent although the Dimarzio 36th anniversary PAFs make it even better. The one thing I could never warm up to was the tuners. I just found them inconvenient and replaced them with Grovers pretty quick...MUCH BETTER!I was just relating to my guitar tech today that if I had it to do over, I'd buy this one again!

Awesome Axe!

By ValleyDude41261

from Hilmar, CA

Comments about Epiphone Firebird Studio Electric Guitar:

I've loved the design since I was a kid. And the vintage sunburst that I purchased is beautiful...absolutely stunning. The natural mahogany shines thru so well. I purchased mine, (used), from Guitar Center. I walked in looking for a Standard SG in the same color scheme and saw the FIrebird. My knees about buckled. It was definately love at first sight. Then I plugged it in to a Fender '65 Twin and was WOWED by Epiphone's continued dedication to customer satisfaction. Within 1 or 2 riffs, I knew I couldn't live without it and had to put a down on it then to keep it for myself! The only 'con', (if you can call it that), that I've found is the unusual light weight of the body, compared to the heavier neck and headstock. It seems to want to tilt head-down when strapped up. But, I simply took up a couple holes on the back end of my strap and it fell right into place. I thought I had found my favorite axe in my Tele, but, the Firebird soon took over. Try one out and see for yourself!
