I've had this guitar for about 2.5 years and it has never let me down. It has a great sound and tone. You can get the right sound for just about any kind of music. Its a workhorse of a guitar. Once at our show I did that thing where you thro your guitar over your shoulder and let it fly around you but my lock nuts were not locked on properly and the guitar went flying. it was a bit chipped but keeped working great. The only thing you should know about the guitar before you buy it is as other reviews have mentioned its a little longer to change the strings on it that your average guitar. Also when you change the stings they tend to go out of tune often. But when you put them on if you use the vibratone to strech then tune and repeat till they stay tuned it solves the problem. So its not that bad if you know how to deal with it. other than that this an excellent guitar for someone looking to upgrade on thier first guitar but not spend $$$ on a Gibson. Im sure it will keep playing this guitar even after I get other more expensive guitars. What I might do is replace the vibratone with a strait bridge due to the fact I never use it. That would eliminated the tuning issue. If youe thinking about getting it, go for it, you won't regret it.

i have many guitars but i still play this a lot. It has a good feel to it and can play most styles of music up to hard rock. You are kidding yourself if you want to use this for metal. Its great for that foo fighters / acdc type sound.
What i dont like is the look and i dont mean the flames and dice, i can deal with those, its the up close look of the paint job.... its an overlay printed out and stuck on and you can tell its cheap and an epiphone.
It also goes out of tune quickly especially if you use the bigsby but this can be fixed by replacing the bridge pieces with rollers instead of the sharp squares it comes with.
for the price it is a good guitar and i dont regret buying it.
would i buy it again? i think so.

Flexible and individual chord machine

By Purebob

from UK

Pros

  • Flexibility
  • Quality Of Assembly
  • Tone variety

Cons

  • Slow Neck For Shredders

Best Uses

  • Jazz Lead
  • Jazz Rhythm
  • Rock Rhythm

Bought mint secondhand five years ago. I wanted a hollowbody to record some rock rhythm with.

The machine looks like a rockabilly dream, andit is, but to be fair the neck is quite fat and slow, isn't the easiest to shred on. Chrding however is perfect. The fat frets and low action force you to make good chord shapes and the chors resound beautifully. Tones are everything from clean rockbilly and jazz to distorted rock. Metal don't really work though as it feeds back at high levels of distortion.

A far better guitar than the oddball loks would hav eyou think.

By Steve-o-8xhMJ

from San Bernadino, CA

I've been playing guitar for about 6 years now and I would like to say the the Flame Kat is one of the best guitars I own. I use it for everything! No matter what type of music you play if you play goth, punk, rockabilly, this guitar is for you. I love it, I would buy another if something should happen to mine.

Solid Road Axe

By John Neff

from Hollywood, CA

I own many vintage guitars, including a '61 Epiphone Broadway that I used on my record. I am not touring with that! So I looked around, settled on the Flamekat because it is fundamentally the same thing as my Broadway. It is a great guitar.

This guitar is great for playing anything from johnny cash to metallica to social distortion. It is plenty loud without the amp, and just look at the thing. It's one of the sweetest lookin' guitars i've ever seen.

Epiphone Flamekat

By Danthepyro

from Chicago IL

The Epiphone Flamekat is a good guitar from a good brand. It's cool because it's got flames and dice doesn't everything cool have flames and dice? and it's a good quality guitar. However, it does leave a little to be desired. it's built pretty well but it doesn't have a string lock so it goes out of tune if you use the tremolo too much.

The Flame Cat is an awesome guitar

By Devin Sensenig

from Denver, PA

The Flame Cat has great looks and a great sound to back it up. The sound is similar to a Les Paul. The only complaint that I have is that it is a pain in the neck to change strings on this thing.

Awesome guitar. Great sound, good tuners, hard to string and the neck seems a little thick, but really great, nevertheless.
