These Epiphone guitars coming out are so impressive, I am getting another one. The sound is amazing thru a Marshall head. Just buy one to really understand the full potential of the Epi product line. You will be happy as a musician with a new guitar. The price should not be an indicator of quality. The name on the headstock is. I have been playing for 30 plus years. This one takes the prize in it's price range and beats many others costing more than double. Get it thru Musician's friend and have all of their benefits. I am a customer to them for life. You can send it back if you want, but you won't if you love music as many do. Great for learning, sounds great with proper set up out of the box. Do it!!

The ebony Les Paul 100 was my birthday present this year. With its black paint, chrome hardware, and creme-colored pickup rings and pick guard, it is a stunner. With Dunlop strap locks, it's sublime.

It blew my 1980s B.C. Rich NJ series Bich-style guitar out of the water tone-wise. Completely pwn'd it. Running the Rich through my 'metal' amPlug makes everything go "djent djent djent" and I smile all stupidly happy. Running the Epi Les Paul 100 through it gave me noticable string definition while still crunching, punching, and squealing with the best of them. Didn't think that was possible with the electronics on a priced to own guitar. Also, it felt SOO much more comfortable to play despite the Rich having a scalloped fretboard. The Les Paul feels buttery in a good way, but not so good that you can't make eye contact with anyone.

Also, the Epi Les Paul 100 feels 'too easy' to play when using very light strings like 8s and 9s. Even 10s are pushing it in terms of being too slinky in E standard tuning (from the guy that loves Billy Gibbons Dunlop 7s and Ernie Ball Extra Slinkys on his other guitar). The guitar is currently wearing SIT 10-48s and really wants 11-50s to compromise between sounding its best and being playable with my wimpy li'l fingers.

It's light, it plays like a breeze, sounds like a dream, looks like you need to wear a tuxedo to wear it, and doesn't cost seven gajillion buxx0rz. Sure it could use better strap buttons (or a strap-lock setup) and stainless steel frets, but it's three oceanliners full of butt-kicking awesomeness for a very reasonable price as is. The only reason not to get the Ebony LP-100 is because you already have one of the burst pattern ones in its place.

Since my music room with my PRS and Fender Amp is upstairs, I purchased the LP 100 Epiphone and Fender Mustang II for the downstairs to be able to practice without having to make the trip up plus I work in my office downstairs. I was totally surprised at the quality of this guitar. After checking everything out, and I mean everything, I could find nothing wrong with the guitar. It is an entry level guitar but could perform well in a number of musical venues so someone starting out could learn on this guitar and be playing it on stage when they are a rock star along with the expensive guitars - haha. The neck is just millimeters more circumference than my PRS but offers no problem. My fingers being shorter cause me to notice slight differences. Pickups are dynamic. Intonation - right on. The tones through my Fender Mustang II is extra ordinary. Anyone new to guitars would feel they have a quality instrument in their hands and would enjoy the learning process. The old adage "You get what you pay for" is VERY true but with this little deal I think you get a lot more than you pay for.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son, and was disappointed. If it was a more expensive guitar I would have sent it back. The finish under the lacquer had lots of swirly scratches and light white spots. Not noticeable from afar but obvious close up, especially with the ebony color. The pick guard looked like the assembler's screwdriver slipped a few times and put some dings in it around the screws. A few of the frets had very sharp burrs that extended out slightly from the side of the neck. I guess you get what you pay for. If I was to do it again, I would have spent a little more and bought a cheap Strat. Regarding MF, it was a good price with an extra discount, fast shipping, and packed very well.

First off, let me say that I wrote a review on this instrument when I first got it a couple of years ago, but I'm writing another review because now I what I'm talking talking about, unlike I did back then.
That being said, this guitar is amazing! I own a Squier Stratocaster Standard and a Yamaha APX500II acoustic (I like cheaper guitars. They play better to me for some reason.) My Strat has a thinner and smoother neck, so I use it for the better feel. But for tone, this LP has got it in the bag! I told a friend I got a cheap Les Paul, and he asked "un-covered or covered pickups?" I said they were un-covered, and he was so happy. Granted, covered pickups look much better, but for tone, un-covered is the way to go. And humbuckers, no less! If I could choose between my Strat and this Les Paul, I would probably choose this Les Paul, as the tone and sound is unsurpassed by even the finest Gibsons.
As for looks and feel, this not too bad. It has a thinner body than other Pauls, and a bolt-on neck makes it a little different, but it's fantastic. Also, the pictures on Musicians Friend hardly do it justice, as the guitar looks so much more beautiful in person (I have the heritage cherry sunburst.) I strung this bad boy up with a set of Ernie Ball Cobalt Series .10's, and it is unsurpassed by anything!
A lot of people complain that the strap buttons are bad. Well... they are. But I had strap locks on this thing for a bit, and they were great, because they completley sovled the problem. I gave the locks to my church's bass player as a gift, and I bought a DiMarzio ClipLock strap earlier this year, and with the combination of this strap and the lighter weight of the guitar itself, this thing is very comfortable to play standing up.
My only con; it has dot fret markers, not the block ones. But who really cares? It's the best Les Paul you can get for this price range, and it's even better than most in the $1,000's range. I would guarantee if you buy this, you will not be sorry!

Great Les Paul Guitar for its Value. Sound, tone, feel is all good. The only cons its still not comparable to a gibson les paul. But for its value, its worth far more than what it is. Highly recommended to beginner guitar players.

Let's talk for a bit. I own a Gibson Les Paul, but I wanted to buy Epiphone this time around to use for smaller gigs. The reason is because there is only a slight difference in sound between these two fine guitars that are owned by Gibson, but one is made overseas the other made in America. You got tales and you got tells of this guitar that is moving up in the ranks. By Changing the pickups you can get pretty darn close to an original Les Paul minus the lighter weight in the guitar versus a heavier weight in the Gibson. My guitar was shipped nicely and when I plugged it into my Marshall Amp, I shredded it. If you buy Epihone your buying a good guitar for a good price and with a few modifications can make it sound just as good as an original Gibson Les Paul by simply changing the pick ups which is a matter of taste because the pick ups on the Epihone work great for a lot of musicians to tend to leave them be.
