OVERVIEW

Elegance and performance in one.

The Les Paul Custom made its debut in 1954 after the initial success of the Les Paul Goldtop. Les Paul himself suggested his namesake guitar needed a new and classy finish that would go well with a tuxedo on stage. From that point on, the Les Paul Custom Blackback was referred to as the "white tuxedo" Les Paul. And with its gold appointments, fully bound body, neck and headstock, and pearloid inlays, you'll agree that the Epiphone Les Paul Custom Blackback is "dressed to kill." Case sold separately.

Great Tonewoods
While all Les Pauls share common design features, the Les Paul Custom Blackback differed from the Les Paul Standard with a solid mahogany body but without a maple cap. Epiphone's LP Custom Blackback follows that tradition by using a solid, carved mahogany body for a slightly mellower tone. Like the originals, the Epiphone Les Paul Custom Blackback is fitted with a solid mahogany neck that is hand-fitted with a glued-in joint for optimum neck-to-body contact, which allows the body and neck to act like one continuous piece of wood. The neck features a very comfortable and fast "SlimTaper "D" profile that has become the most popular profile found on today's Les Pauls. The result is a tribute to Les' timeless guitar design with the sound and feel that you can only get from a real Les Paul.

Added Vintage-Vibe
Epiphone has reproduced the beautiful faded look of vintage Les Paul Customs with an œAntique Ivory finish that looks just like a well-preserved vintage Les Paul Custom. Plus, Epiphone has also reproduced the œBlackback, a common feature in '70s-era Les Paul Customs. Finally, Epiphone equips this Limited. Edition LP Custom with classic "open-window" ProBuckers, each voiced for maximum response for lead, rhythm or any combo you choose. The Limited Edition 1970's Inspired Les Paul Custom Blackback PRO sounds like the real thing because it is the real thing! And at fraction for what youd pay for a vintage original.

Loaded with premium add-ons
Other premium features include Epiphone's LockTone Tune-o-matic/Stopbar combination bridge for increased sustain and easy string changes, 16:1 ratio Grover machine heads, a 7-layer bound body, a 5-layer bound headstock, and a comfortable single-layer bound rosewood fingerboard.

I purchased two of these guitars recently to add to my collection of Les Pauls. My oldest Les Paul is a 1955 Gibson Special, highly modified. These guitars remind me of the older "fretless wonder" Les Paul Customs because of their ease of playing. They are beautiful and sound great! Since these are limited editions, they won't be around long. I highly recommend you purchase one, you won't be sorry.

The guitar's headstock was snapped in two when I got it. So, I can't really describe anything about the guitar except that perhaps the headstock is weak. There was no visible damange to the box. It looked fine. Perhaps it wasn't packed properly but I would think musicians friend would know about packing guitars. It didn't come in a case but just in a box so maybe that is a problem.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Custom Blackback PRO Electric Guitar:

Excellent feel on this axe right out of the box. Fun to play and sounds great. I love the antique ivory look on this one. Been watching it for a long time. When it went on sale I jumped on it. I recommend this guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Custom Blackback PRO Electric Guitar:

This is a great looking and playing guitar for the price! Sucks for me that it went on sale cheaper 2 days after I bought it . However, I don't regret the purchase. Also, description says it doesn't have coil taping, but the pro version does.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Custom Blackback PRO Electric Guitar:

I just received my LP Blackback Pro today and I just couldn't put it down. Through my Genz Benz amp the cleans sounded great. The overall sound is certainly darker than my maple top LPs, but that's what I was looking for. Sustain is exactly what you would expect, basically endless. Plugged into my Blackstar HT Metal and started with a little distortion. Ahhhhhhhh that's what I wanted to hear. The Probuckers sound great. Better than I hoped they would. Varying the volume gave me excellent tonal changes. Split the coils and wow, another set of great sounds from neck and bridge pickups. Mixing the pickups with humbucker in one position and split coil in the other yields yet more interesting tones. The guitar is beautiful, I love the antique white, the open pickups, the multi layer bindings. And I got it on a SDOTD! Thanks Musicians Friend! Thanks Epiphone!

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Custom Blackback PRO Electric Guitar:

I've owned several LP's over the years and my ear cannot really tell the difference between this and on of my LP's. Granted, there are probably people who can tell but for my purposes this is the perfect guitar. The finish is beautiful, tone is excellent. Coil tapping is new to me and I'm not sure what to do with it yet but it's a cool feature to play around with until I do.

In terms of quality, the setup was a bit off when I got it so I do need to take it in to get adjusted but I wouldn't really see that as a true con. If I bought it from a brick and mortar shop it would be a bigger issue. The plastic covering over the pickups left a film which was sort of annoying but I was able to rub it off pretty easily.

I had this guitar set up at the shop before I played it, It is a solid well made guitar, If you don't have the money for a Gibson LP I would say this is the runner up to it, The tone is and it plays better than my practice Gibson LP special, Great guitar for the price!

I loved the look of this guitar as advertised and I wasn't let down when it arrived. I missed the first pass as a 'stupid deal of the day' but jumped on it when repeated a bit later. It's got a great big sound from the probuckers and a nice sound option using the coil tap switches. Pretty well set to play right of the box. Finish appears to be flawless. Time will tell how long the gold finish lasts but it's one pretty guitar and feels great to play.
