Got this for Christmas 2012 as I wanted something to tune open for slide. Got the sunburst finish which, when you see it, is unbelievable.Plays really well and didn't have to do much setup other than change strings. The stock ones were horrible. Thought what the heck and took it to the first gig this year.Tonight will be the fifth straight gig with it.Growls beautifully but turn back the volume a smidge and it cleans right up.Turn back the tone knob and it mellows it right out.Never did get to tune it open and play slide but I will. I have always been a Gibson player and just loved having Gibson on the headstock. Two years ago I bought the epiphone 58 flying V and thought I'm spending a lot less money and getting a really good guitar but was a little leary of the Juinor. I mean c'mon I paid about the same for my starter guitar way back in 64 and It was'nt this nice. I don't know what pickup they put in this thing but It just screams. I have been playing classic rock before it was classic. about 45 years and have had all kinds of Gibsons,Fenders, and Rickenbackers and still do and will always love my Les Paul, but this little baby is a real standup guitar and a whole lot easier on my aged back. Will change out the tuners as they don't quite hold tune like Grovers or Klusons but I have a spare set. Will change out the nut for sure as it is plastic and will not last. Other than that I can't find anything wrong with this guitar. Would like to put on a P-90 pickup, but I like this one. Guess I'll just have to buy another one and put a P-90 in that one. I love this guitar alot!

Guitar had a strange defect...it had two volume controls instead of one volume and one tone control. This was because the capacitor for the tone pot was wired incorrectly. The cap was simply grounded to the tone pot. It should have been wired to the outer prong on the volume pot, and then from there grounded to the volume pot.

I replaced the cap with an orange drop, and then wired it correctly. The controls worked fine and the pickup sounded pretty good. This guitar also had very rough fret edges--not enough to cut or scratch fingers, but enough to feel very uncomfortable while playing. I carefully filed down the rough fret edges, and then the guitar played well. Still a bargain even with the extra work. The crazy wiring should have been caught at QC, but was not properly examined, even with the QC passed sticker on it. Now the guitar plays well and has a surprisingly good tone. It looks pretty good to me also.

This was for my son's Christmas present. He has been playing guitar for a little while. We recieved the guitar with a cracked neck. It was packed well for shipping so I think it was a defect in craftsmanship.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar:

I bought the ebony model a few weeks back when they were on sale. Being experienced with Epiphone guitars I was expecting a decent guitar but one that I would use as a platform for modding since this is their entry level guitar. Nope, this thing isn't getting messed with anytime soon. It really is a great player right out of the box. When I can put it down long enough I'll do a fret level and dress to smooth out the frets, but even that's not an emergency.

The tuners are basic, but are rock solid. Once the strings were broken in, I can play and bend all I want and when I check my tuning, I may have one string off by a half cent or so. I still have the original strings on it, very good after you play the resin off of them that they ship with. I hate the feeling of it but once it's gone, the strings are fine. I see no need to swap them out to my preferred brand until it's necessary

The electronics function as designed and the pots are full size Alpha pots. The pickup is a little hotter than I prefer but the volume/tone knobs smooth it out nicely. The jack is just fine, no issues. And that's it for electronics. The wraparound bridge limits intonation adjustments to 2 set screws and they do a good enough job for my ears. Fit and finish is good. No cosmetic issues that I could find.

And FUN to play! I've got 6 electrics and since this came 2 weeks ago, it gets 90% of my attention. There's just something about coming at music with one pickup, a volume and tone control, and making it happen. Tweak the tone from your fingers, the knobs, and the amp and you really get to know your guitar/amp setup. I've played in working bands in the past and wouldn't have any issue taking this on stage. It's got everything I need to coax out the tone I want. Easily gets 5 stars from me as a best in class.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar:

I bought the ebony LP Jr. because the sale price was so outrageously low that I couldn't stop myself. Apparently I got it just in time as MF seems to have sold out on the black model and are no longer offering it. I wasn't expecting much, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It doesn't have as full a tone as Epiphone's LP Special II, but the single bridge humbucker has a gritty snarl to it that caught me off guard. This is a real rock 'n' roll guitar, through and through. It's got a nice bite to its tone. All things considered, this is one of the best purchases I've made in years.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar:

This is the best deal ever, at 64! I got the black version on sale, and I wasn't expecting much. The first things that I noticed were that the frets we relatively smooth and did not require much attention or polishing, and that the strings were properly centered on the neck. Also, the truss rod worked smoothly and did not require much adjustment. The string height was right on the money, and the intonation only needed a slight adjustment by using the two small Allen screws protruding from the rear of the bridge. I love the simplicity of this guitar, no selector switch and only one volume and one tone control. I was surprised by the sound of the single humbucker through my Fender Deluxe Reverb, and when pushed, it has a distinctive snarl for rock & roll. The tuners, although cheap, work just fine, but I had to tighten the wood screws and snug the tension screws to take out the slop when tuning. On the negative side for me, the guitar feels like it was dipped in plastic, and is very slippery. Also, my particular guitar is rather heavy, weighing in at 7.8 pounds. This guitar is a lot of fun to play, sounds great, and is a real bargain. All in all, I am impressed.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar:

First of all, I'll agree with anyone who says the wrap around bridge on this guitar us junk. I replaced mine with a solid brass, wrap around bridge. As far as all the comments complaining about fret buzz or poor pickup sound, i suggest you learn how to set up and play the guitar before writing anymore reviews. This guitar sounds and plays great. is it a $3000 guitar, does it play and sound as good as my Gibson LP traditional?...of course not, but its absolutely worth more then i paid. i was pleasantly surprised with how good it actually is. Once the strings are stretched it stays in perfect tune. the neck is comfortable, with no sharp fret ends on mine. this is one of those guitars that is perfect to customize and make your own, but even out of the box, its not a bad guitar at all.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Junior Special Electric Guitar:

I always wanted a les paul special so I used my backstage points and got a sunburst special for about six and a half clams. Yup that's correct about six and a half clams. Guitar ordered on Wednesday arrived on Thursday. ( I'm not that far from Kansas city). As with other reviews mine has fret buzz on both E strings at the 5th fret. Relief measured at the 7th fret is less than .003 and as always this guitar is claimed to be 100% inspected and set up in the USA by #7 at epiphone. So I will do what #7 did not do, change strings, do a proper set up, then correct the fret buzz. These guitars are produced in China and for the most part are pretty good with the fit and finish. The tuners hold tune, the fret ends are dressed. The pickup sounds good and crunchy, the tone and volume is even across all six strings. Tone and volume knobs rotate with smooth resistance and function well. Plug in jack has solid connection. The compensated bridge tailpiece has a small nick in the low E string position left of the proper string placement and has no bering on its function. The post screws show dings from either mechanical placement or hand screwing. The intonation surprisingly, was spot on. So there you go, if your capable of doing your own guitar tech work and like me want to leave your good guitars home, or want a platform for your latest Frankenstein guitar, I will highly recommend this guitar.
