I bought a yellow one a year ago. I was interested in a lightweight shorter scale guitar as I mostly play Fenders, and also something I could work on and not worry about ruining. Out of the box it was OK, but it soon needed adjustments. The set bridge wasn't able to hold the tuning up to what my ears are used to, so I replaced it with a tunomatic bridge - this required plugging the holes of the old bridge with dowels and drilling new holes. While I was at it, I put on a surface mounted tremolo - both of these parts I got from a well-known internet discount supplier. So it worked OK for a while and then the tuners started slipping, so I replaced them with a set from the same place. Next, I found I was scratching the surface with my pick strumming so I bought a cheap black pickguard and cut it to fit. Then I repositioned the pickup switch, which my right hand was knocking off and on, so that it moves horizontally. Now the yellow guitar was working pretty good, but about 6 months later it got sloppy again and I had to adjust the truss rod and redo the intonation. But I couldn't get it exactly right so I took it to Shawn the guitar pro and he set it right! This guitar is very light, stays in perfect tune, looks great and the P90 pickups give it a unique sound compared to my other guitars. I do most of my practicing with it and have brought it on a few gigs. For just over double my initial investment I got some experience and a worthy instrument.

A decent guitar to have lying around. Setup is surprisingly good, action is decent & holds in tune fairly well. The neck is cheap, you can use it as a whammy bar. Fit and finish is OK, hardware is cheap. Pickups are a little flat, not a lot of dynamic response. A good deal if you are looking for an inexpensive beater.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

I first saw this at Guitar Center lined up with all the other "cheap" guitars. The P90's caught my attention so I gave it a try. The sound amazed me and the action was not bad. I couldn't get this little guitar out of my mind so I took a chance a bought a worn cherry one here at Musician Friend. It was no fluke. Other then the action being a little higher then I would ideally like, this thing is awesome. Decent build, fantastic tone from the P90'a. A super keeper, I might buy another in worn black just to keep it company.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

Bought this for my younger brother for a high school graduation present. The whole idea behind getting the cheapest Epi les paul was cause we had it on his table for all of his friends to sign! The best idea ever!!!! Tons of signatures in "silver sharpie"! Not to mention its a great little guitar. But seriously, the "signing" idea i totally recommend.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

This is just a follow up review for my second guitar. It's just as good as the first. I've set it up for my main alternate tuning (CGDAEG) strung with 8-10-15-24-38-52 and it sounds absolutely killer. I used a Schaller adjustable tailpiece on my Melody Maker, but I've been able to get good intonation on these Epiphone guitars with the stock, solid tailpiece/bridge in both tunings. The bridge on the first one was set a bit higher than I prefer on the first string side, and this second one was actually set a bit low on both sides, but a quick bit of adjustment got to optimal bridge height. I also had to tweak the bridge alignment on the first guitar to get proper intonation on strings 1-3.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

I bought this after having played a '62 Melody Maker for many years. Amazingly, this guitar gives me the same basic feel, tone and sustain that I got from the MM. Truly an amazing value. The setup was right on, the tone is a solid P90 tone with clear, ringing sound with great sustain. The neck is straight and feels good. Obviously, I'm partial to this type of single coil pickup sound. So much so that I've ordered a second one to keep strung for the music I do using fifths tuning.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

Got this for last Christmas from my wife. It's an amazing guitar for the money. Plays great, feels nice in your hands. The P90's absolutely make this guitar what it is. P90's sound like no other pickups. In this body they have a warmth and chime you'd expect to hear from a guitar four times or more it's cost. The neck is very nice, Thick but not too think. It feels solid. Much lighter overall wieght then other LP's that I've played...which is great for younger folks or older folks like me with back issues :^) It also looks great. I have the worn black model and it's flat out gorgeous. I'm working replacing all the hardware with black hardware, just to have the guitar be completely black. That being said I have had no issues with the hardware. I'm very pleased with the fixed wraparound bridge. Very surprised at how good the intonation was right out of the box. I've used this guitar for recording a lot. It sounds great in the mix, meaning it has a very distinct sound that cuts through without being overpowering.
I honestly have nothing bad to say about this guitar. I own six guitars of various makes and this is one of my favorites.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

The replacement guitar is much better looking than the original one delivered. I took it in for a setup by a luthier. He discovered a cardboard wedge between the twisted neck and body! Exchanged promptly and this one looks better. We shall wait and see what the luthier says before final judgement.

Epiphone may need to tighten up quality control considering they advertise an inspection and setup in the USA?

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is great for the price and after some work on it can sound great. I absolutely love the P90 tone and let me tell you these stock pickups aren't as great as true P90's. They dont sound bad but they feel like something is missing, maybe the Mids, muscle and bite of the Gibsons. It's a great idea to replace these with other P90's, I highly recommend Duncans or Gibsons. With a nice setup, some real P90's and a nice tube amp this guitar sounds absolutely killer for anything you throw at it! Blues,Rock'N'Roll,Country,Jazz,Metal, you name it! The price is so great that you can use the guitar as a base for customizing as others have said. Overall I'm really satisfied with this purchase and I now have a great backup or I can even leave my trusty Gibson SG Classic and Vintage Les Paul safe at home. Blues-based raw Rock'n'Roll all the way!!

I am a big fan of P-90 pups and I bought this with the intention of raising the action and making it a slide. It came well packed and looked real good in all black. It played nice, right out of the box. The pups were hot and punchy. The neck was straight with no fret buzz. It was really fun to play and sounded great. Can't be beat it for the price. Anyway, I'm now in the market for another guitar to turn into a slide because I'm gonna keep this as a backup. It's just too much fun to not play regularly.
