I bought a yellow one a year ago. I was interested in a lightweight shorter scale guitar as I mostly play Fenders, and also something I could work on and not worry about ruining. Out of the box it was OK, but it soon needed adjustments. The set bridge wasn't able to hold the tuning up to what my ears are used to, so I replaced it with a tunomatic bridge - this required plugging the holes of the old bridge with dowels and drilling new holes. While I was at it, I put on a surface mounted tremolo - both of these parts I got from a well-known internet discount supplier. So it worked OK for a while and then the tuners started slipping, so I replaced them with a set from the same place. Next, I found I was scratching the surface with my pick strumming so I bought a cheap black pickguard and cut it to fit. Then I repositioned the pickup switch, which my right hand was knocking off and on, so that it moves horizontally. Now the yellow guitar was working pretty good, but about 6 months later it got sloppy again and I had to adjust the truss rod and redo the intonation. But I couldn't get it exactly right so I took it to Shawn the guitar pro and he set it right! This guitar is very light, stays in perfect tune, looks great and the P90 pickups give it a unique sound compared to my other guitars. I do most of my practicing with it and have brought it on a few gigs. For just over double my initial investment I got some experience and a worthy instrument.

I bought this guitar to stash at church as a spare, a rehearsal instrument. Now that I've taken it apart and put it back together right, it might not go to church. Out of the box, it sounded lifeless. The gap at the neck heel was unacceptably wide, so off went the factory strings and the neck. When the neck came out, a chunk of the body's neck pocket came with it. Not good, but this is where inexpensive (and expensive) bolt-neck guitars seem consistently to be less than great. Clamps, Titebond, half an hour's filing. With the neck reinstalled & better wood-to-wood contact, the guitar came to life. I replaced the stock wraparound bridge with a lightweight Wilkinson wraparound unit, because I wanted the other bridge for another guitar, and I wanted to see what the Wilkinson might do for the Epiphone. FINALLY we are fully strung-up & action is acceptable, so the fun stuff can begin: setting the pickup height on the twin P-90s. Initial impression of pickups is positive. They are brash, like P-90s should be, but I think they will dial in nicely. I love P-90s, and it puzzles me that Gibson doesn't offer more varieties of it, the way every other serious pickup manufacturer does.... All in all a promising little bottom-feeder of a guitar, but I've been rebuilding bottom-feeders for 30-plus years, so if you're like me and you like Frankensteining cheap axes, this is for you. If you want something that will play nice right out of the box, this might not be for you. I give it three stars for the pickups.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

Nice guitar for the price. Only complaint is that the selector switch is weak and not reliable. I would rather replace it myself than send it back. Maybe just needs some contact cleaner. The neck feels good. I like the dry feel as it is not glossy. The pickups sound excellent - selling point on this guitar. I use a Vox AC15 and an Bruno 35W. The strings should be removed quickly as possible. Buy some along with the guitar as the ones that come with it are just for show. For the price this guitar sounds and feels good. I am happy with it. You will not find a better guitar in this price range.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

Everyone should have one of these - just to have!!! First guitar or your 25th!! Two pots and one switch and everything is available to you! I make all my students purchase one if they don't already have an electric guitar. I teach them how to use a fret file and leveler and everything else is pretty much perfect right out of the box. Holds tune, light enough to play all night and holds tune well. I still gig with this guitar and paid a lot more for it when it was first introduced - no regrets. An amazing deal at the current price! Change the strings to Ball Regular Slinky's and can bend the "stuffing" out of the fretboard.

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

I have to admit I am guilty of having been a Gear snob in the past, but finances have dictated that this is, literally, the only acceptable guitar my budget would allow. I begrudgingly bought this guitar after doing without for a few months and must say I am impressed. It feels really good and sounds fine through my Roland Micro Cube. I thought I was getting a temporary piece that would become a customization project, but my playing has never been better. I am not sure if it was a fortunately timed "Breakthrough" in my playing or if this guitar is some kind of good luck charm but I am doing things on this that I never achieved on my Strat or Gibson LPs before the economy claimed them all. I have always been craving that next guitar, but If this turned out to be my last guitar, I would be able to live with that .

Comments about Epiphone Les Paul Special I P90 Electric Guitar:

Bought this guitar on a whim, as I was looking for a cheap p90 guitar. And for the price, you can't get any more economical for a new guitar.

I currently own a Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro, and a Fender American Telecaster Limited Edition. Both of those guitars are excellent in every aspect. The Epiphone Les Paul Special 1 is not too far behind, surprisingly.

It resonants well unplugged, likely due to the satin finish. The satin finish is nice, holds oil from your hands and arm and with eventually start to wear in the spot contacted the most, for a cool worn in look. The p90s sound just as good as Gibsons, have an excellent growl and bite with some gain, and are brilliant on a nice clean setting. Intonation is solid for a wrap-around tailpiece, would be better with a bridge upgrade, 9/10. The tuners aren't the best, but serve their purpose, eventually I would replace them, 7/10. Setup needed a 1/4'' relief turn in the neck as it was too straight, and the string height was brought down to gibson spec (3/64" on high e, 5/64" on low e at 12th fret). This setup drastically improved the playability. The factory strings were absolutely dreadful, which I have noticed with alot of epiphones. The strings have a sort of gritty feel to them and cause a lot of friction when sliding, 1/10. I immediately replaced with d'addario 10-gauge strings.

Overall, I think this guitar is a keeper for my p90 needs. Great xmas gift for beginning guitar players. I have been playing for over 20 years and this guitar rocks. It's also nice to own a guitar that doesn't worry you to take a ding or a scratch now and again.

                    Great deal!
Action and intonation were set up as good as it's going to get for this kind of tailpiece.
This guitar even sounds good NOT plugged in!
I had to remove the "RHYTHM/TREBLE" disc because it offended my sensibilities, but that's just me.
My only complaint is that I had a difficult time deciding which color to order, but again, that's just me:-)
I highly recommend this guitar for anyone looking for a good reasonably priced guitar for almost any style of music....except maybe Metal.
