Epiphone Limited Edition 1956 Les Paul Gold Top

| Review By: KidRocker | 3 weeks, 1 day ago

Features:

Typical Les Paul controls setup (ect). This one has a vintage gold top with P90s pickups. The nut is micarta which is what Gibson and Epiphone have been using lately, and although not as hard as bone, it will do for now. It has modern Grover tuners instead of the vintage Kluson style which varies the look from the original. I had some white pearl Grover buttons and with them on it now matches the pearl neck inlays nicely.

Quality:

Out of the box the action was playable but I always do my own setups with all of my guitars. The truss rod was not tightened (as it should be) and the bridge needed tweaking to attain the action I like. After a little work this thing now plays and sounds killer. It also looks killer too. In fact after a week of inspecting I can’t find a single cosmetic flaw on this thing which is rare for any brand these days.

Value:

IMO for the price this is a good deal. It may not be a Gibson but this guitar shines in its own right.

Overall:

I haven’t gigged with it yet but I’ve played it thru my Fender Vibro-King, Peavey Delta Blues, Marshall Class 5, Line6 Spider, and a Roland Cube…and this thing totally rocks all of them. The vintage P90s have a sound most are not familiar with. I A/B this Epi with my Gibson Blues Hawk (dummy-coil P90s) and although it sounded different, it sounded good! Nice crisp ringing highs and full fat bottom you can feel. Beware that P90s are a bit noisy, but that comes with the territory as no other pickups sound like them.

The Epiphone Les Paul ’56 GT is a fine guitar. Maybe I lucked up and got a good one from the factory. LoL, if so I also lucked up last year when I purchased an Epiphone EL-00 which was virtually flawless.

Both a keepers and now part my collection.

((( HUMMMMMMMMM )))

| Review By: Jason Sitala | 3 weeks, 4 days ago

Features:

I bought this guitar after reading your reviews. Little did I know how annoying the hum was going to be in my small, digital recording studio. When I turn on the small fan in the room the guitar goes berserk! I need a Les Paul with Humbuckers. Besides, this guitar came to me with a problem when I put the pickup switch in the 'treble' position. I have to push it hard to the right and practically hold it there for the treble pickup to work properly. I'm sending it back

Quality:

Looks great!

Value:

Worth the money if you don't mind having a hum sound when you play

Overall:

This is great guitar to put in a museum, but it hums too much for me to actually use on a regular basis
