Great guitar! I?ve been playing for 23 years, and own several guitars (Taylor, Guild, PRS, high-end Fender, etc.). I?m picky about tone, playability and construction. A few years ago, had a jumbo guitar stolen (American-made Guild Jf-30 w/ flamed maple back, sides & neck), and have been trying to replace it. But couldn?t find the same make/model for under $1,000 (which I can?t afford right now). The Epi EJ-200 (fancier version) caught my eye as a possible cheap alternative to the Guild. Tried a few, and was mildly impressed with tone and playability for a guitar in the $300-400 price range. But I prefer simple appointments, and was not a fan of the fancy pick-guard, inlays, and bridge. I found the Limited Edition EJ-200 Artist, priced under $200, with looks right up my alley. I played a few, with varying results. But all reasonably good for the price. When it went on sale at Musician?s Friend for $175, couldn?t pass it up. Had to wait almost two months due to backorder. But it was WORTH THE WAIT! This particular guitar is AMAZING! Fit & finish are flawless. Like several other reviewers, I received a guitar w/ solid spruce top (not laminate, or ?select spruce?). The tone is stunning. Crisp highs, balanced mids, booming lows. Excellent action and intonation up and down the neck. Easily rivals my long-lost Guild for looks, tone and playability. I can?t find anything bad to say about this guitar, and can?t believe the quality at this price. Was planning to upgrade bridge, nut and pins. But honestly, it sounds great as is. In my opinion, you won?t find a better guitar for less than $1,000, and this one sounds & plays better than many that sell for more than that. There is some variance in quality with these guitars; so your experience may not be as good as mine. But for under $200, it?s worth the risk.

I bought one of these about 2 months ago to have around my office as a beater since I love my Epi EJ-200 model but didn't want to spend another $400 to get another one. I got mine when they were more $$. There are no words to describe how much I enjoy this guitar and it's worth 5 times whatever they are charging for it. I put some Medium Elixer strings on it and it whales with sound and clarity. I did have to shim the saddle a hair and slightly adjust the next, not nothing major and the finish, etc. is outstandingly done. I am truely amazed at that not everyone has one of these. Also, It is "solid top" regardless of what some may say. I have thoroughly inspected mine even with a mirror, etc. and it is a solid top. I have had professionals, and others play mine, and they all have went out and got one for themselves even when they were higher priced.
A stripped down version of the regular 200.
Seems to be great to me.
Absolutely outstanding value

I just bought this guitar today and I have to say its fantastic. Out of the box it was fully set up, had good strings on it and played great. It did not need any adjustment just a quick tuning. The bass is full and the high end crisp and clear. Its a great guitar for any price but for this price its even better.
Get it, play it and enjoy it.

Amazing Guitar!

By John Mowad Jr

from Vermont

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition EJ-200 Artist Acoustic Guitar:

I bought this Epiphone Limited Edition EJ-200 Artist for a great price. Gorgeous natural maple finish. no figure to speak of, but the veneer on the back shows a subtle, straight vertical grain. Beautiful!

One of the slimmest necks I've ever played, fingerboard width in perfect ratio, and the reassuringly solid feel of maple. Factory light guage p-bronze strings were fresh and great sounding. The neck is super straight and the action is very low. You get some general string slap from hard chord playing or picking, but a change to mediums should clear that up and bring out much more tone, or an ever so slight trussrod adjustment if you prefer lights. I'm going for mediums.

Tone is incredibly well balanced, warm and woody yet bright and airy but not tinny. The soft yet focused sound you only get from a maple body. Beautiful dynamics; loud and bright, soft and sweet,

And it's just gonna get better and better!
Everything you want in a jumbo guitar!
Incredibly well made. Fit and finish are perfect! Very easy to play and great sound. Beautiful to look at and listen to. No name sealed tuners work great, nearly perfect intonation.
I paid a great price for it!

Couldn't resist it

By John Comeaux

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition EJ-200 Artist Acoustic Guitar:

I'm very glad I bought this guitar.
The top of my new Epiphone Limited Edition EJ 200 Artist/N is of solid spruce of very close and straight grain. Solid maple back and sides. A strong light through the wood reveals only one grain pattern. Bound fret board, good tuning machines. Elegant and uncluttered appearance.
Excellent quality materials, almost flawless construction. Only one slight check caused in cutting out the sound hole which is only visible with a lighted mirror inside the guitar. Finish is perfect. The sound is full and booming and pretty well balanced. Low and midrange a little stonger than high treble but the highs do sparkle. Intonation is good. A few slightly high frets. The neck adjusted easily. Set up is surprisingly close. Many high end guitars leave the store with worse.
It doesn't come up to my Martin D28 but it comes much closer than it's price would suggest. This is probably as close as I'll ever come to a Gibson Jumbo but for my money, it's close enough.

Epiphone JA-200 Artist: Holy Crap!

By Barry Shea

from Pinole, California

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition EJ-200 Artist Acoustic Guitar:

I've NEVER written a review, for ANYTHING. Nothing has ever blown me away that much.

That has changed.

My dream guitar has always been the Gibson J-200, but I've never had the $2,000+ to drop on one (that went for drums & cymbals!). My dream has now nearly come true.

The Epiphone EJ-200 Artist is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL sounding jumbo acoustic guitar. Deep, throaty lows. Bright, crystalline highs. Resonation that floats on forever. Any chord you play on this thing sounds like heaven. (I restrung it with Martin SP 80/20 Bronze Lights). It might actually sound TOO good for certain songs, and be more suited for regal acoustic pieces like Greg Lake/Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Yes, Led Zeppelin, etc., as well as high-end country and folk.

I am simply blown away at how stunning this guitar sounds. It is the best money I have ever spent in my life. I'm actually considering buying some for a few dear friends! (and I say buy one for your kid who has expressed interest in playing the guitar, and when their fingertips start to hurt and they quit, you've got yourself an outstanding guitar!).

The smooth, sensitive tuners allow for quick, accurate tuning. I bought a Delta Lab CT-30 electronic tuner, which clips to the headstock. I tuned up with the CT-30, tested it against harmonic tuning, and it was dead on.

Make sure you get one made in Indonesia. The craftsmanship is impeccable. I have the "Blonde" version, and the finish is smooth as ice. And if you can afford it, get the high-end model with the mustache bridge, etched pick guard, and crown fret inlays. It will get you as close as possible to the Gibson J-200 for a tenth of the price.

The wrap-up: Sell that PlayStation, get this guitar, and start nurturing your soul.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition EJ-200 Artist Acoustic Guitar:

Overall, unreal! The beautiful vintage sunburst finish is amazing, the sound full and even, I'm positive this is solid top. Excellent guitar that hold tune, plays very well, excellent kneck, you have to buy it today!! Go now, don't wait!
Amazed right out of the box! The only thing this guitar needs is a slight action adjustment and nice strings, it has a beautiful sound and I swear it's a solid top. As a matter of fact, I think I read that these actually are solid throughout! This is as close to the Gibson as you can get, and the quality is truly stunning. I love the sunburst! BUY ONE!
No flaws whatsover, just a tiny bit of action adjust is needed.
On sale, and Im shocked, for the price! Plays like a guitar that is way more expensive, a stunning guitar for the money and not a begginer guitar but can be used for old pros as well as the recording pro.

EJ200 Artist

By Jayson Anderson

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition EJ-200 Artist Acoustic Guitar:

It's a factory 2nd but you cannot tell. I'd love to know why but they don't tell. Even my repairman did not see why they rated it that way. Soooo I really wanted a jumbo and found one even I can afford!!!
Bought the return for an astounding price. I figured to send it back if I was not happy. It is an amazing instrument for any price. The frets have been leveled by my local guy and it is just fun to play and just booms out sound! Put in a sound hole pickup and that bright Jumbo sound comes through.
Love it!
Top is solid spruce. I think the sides and back are solid also. The neck is straight and true.
Hands down value! Would be hard to beat for that money.

IS IT AN SJ 200 ? NOT QUITE...BUT

By Caryl Winzenried

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition EJ-200 Artist Acoustic Guitar:

No,this is not a Gibson sj 200. But it doesn't cost three grand, either! I wanted a guitar with a big, mellow sound to play in a small church without amplification. The ej 200 artist is a decently made, good sounding instrument at a GREAT price . I own several high end guitars (some vintage) and this one now sits in the living room and gets a lot of playing time.

Great build quality great set up out of the box wonderful wide open sound
Looks beautiful, great inlay and binding work. I can't believe the value of this guitar. I think I've sat and stared at this thing more than I've played it so far because it is just so beautiful.
As far as build quality and set up it is far beyond anything i've seen at this price
The value of this guitar is the quite simply amazing. However epiphone does it I don't understand.
