OVERVIEW

The classic shape and bell-like tone of Gibson's ES series.

First introduced in the late '50s, the ES series became an instant rock classic, bringing the feel and look of an archtop to a generation of players who had grown up playing solid body guitars like the Les Paul. The ES-335, the first in the ES series, was an instant success. Now Epiphone introduces the ES-335 PRO - an instrument with its roots firmly planted in the classic era when Epiphone's Kalamazoo factory was producing rock's most legendary instruments.

Featuring an ES-style body with Alnico Classic PRO humbucker pickups, the new ES-335 PRO semi-hollowbody from Epiphone turns back the clock while breaking new ground in sound and style. Other classic features include a tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece for incredible sustain, Wilkinson vintage-style tuning machines, and a rosewood fretboard adorned with small block inlay. Case sold separately.

FEATURES
  • Arched maple top and back
  • 24.75" Scale set-in mahogany neck

Received my beautiful ES-335 in Natural finish from Musiciansfriend.com in an amazing fast shipping time. Was packaged beautifully. But the true beauty was the guitar I was lucky enough to pull out of the box! This thing just simply inspires you to play with how amazing it looks. The Natural finish is just a pleasure to look at at with its high gloss finish, yet still allowing all the beautilfull wood grain lines and swirls to peer through. The fret board was beautiful with the block inlays and this is one guitar where I can say the back of the guitar is actually just as beautiful as the front. The neck mohagany wood grain is just so warm and beautiful. But the amazing this is this baby sounds as great as it looks!

The alnico pro pups just give that great mellow blues/jazz tone but can also deliver a great growl for classic rock. The coil tap is a wonderful bonus to play with that allows you to get even more sounds out of this wonderful instrument. I have run this guitar for hours clean through my fender amp and with effects pedals and sounds amazing either way.But the best past of this guitar for me is the easy to play neck. The slim taper D design just fits my hand like a glove! The guitar has some size to it being a 335 but one expects that, and I love it. Tuners look vintage and are functional all at the same time.

The quality on the finish was amazing as well. I feel truly fortunate to have gotten such a great guitar. This one will be in my collection till I am long gone from this earth. If your on the fence and always wanted a 335 like myself, don't hesitate this wonderful limited edition offering from Epiphone delivers in EVERY way! Vintage tone, looks, playability. Get one and enjoy!

First guitar came with a shattered neck. Emily at customer service was great. I got the replacement quickly and the UPS return of the broken one was not bad. The inside Epiphone boxes looked more damaged than the outer Musician's Friend shippers. It looks like they might have been damaged coming from China and not from shipping to me. Second inside Epiphone box was damage also, but the guitar seems fine.
I didn't check poor craftsmanship because it plays well. Nice low action. Neck feels great to my hand. Only one string at one fret has some buzz. Hope it will play out or I'll have our local expert adjust it.
The only bad thing is the paint on the edge of the f-holes on both guitars looks like a 3 year old did it, very sloppy. Then they put a beautiful smooth hard clear coat over the top of the sloppy black paint. Even though I like the guitar and it is going to be a user, I can't give it more than 3 stars because of the lack of quality control by Epiphone. The rest of the fit and finish seems fine, so far.
My son, daughter and I have been playing it for over a week now and we all like it.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

The E-335 Pro is so sweet, I can't even begin to describe. The tone and pickups are phenomenal. I had to intonate it right out of the box, which I do with all my guitars so no biggy. The nut slots need a tad bit of filing, but again not majorly required. Super easy fix if you have the right tools. Will probably swap out the plastic one with a bone nut, but it's not essential. This thing is a BEAST and every bit as good as the reviews say. The tonality you can get out of this is just sick. Quality, craftsmanship, fit and finish is A+. And for the price? Nothing will touch it till you get into the $2500 range with a Gibson. But why?

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

Needed setup but what doesn't? The frets needed polishing no biggie and I will get around to replacing the nut with bone (if it had a Tusq I would keep it but the plastic thing no). Other than that this is now my favorite guitar for practice since I am 6'4" and I don't have to hunch over or wear a strap while sitting, plus it has great resonance unplugged. I have had a Gibson ES-335 and my friend has 2 of them as well as Epiphone Elitist Casino and we were blown away at how good the Epi ES-335 Pro compares. Stock pickups will stay and I play this everyday! I hope they re-release it I have yet to play an Epi Dot that comes close, only my Sheraton with Gibson classics came close but the maple neck wasn't as sweet sounding IMO. I was lucky and received a great one with sturdy neck and flawless craftmanship, I should have bought two for the price!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

Finish is excellent, even though it's polyester- same as Fender..
Pickups are great- in fact, they don't really need the coil split ability that they do have because the clarity
of the high end is fine in humbucking mode, however the coil split does make the quack of the middle switch
position work well, and being able to independently split the pickups is useful.
When both are in single coil mode, and the middle position of the selector switch is chosen,
the coils are in phase, so noise is doubled rather than cancelled, just as Gibson historically wires things.
Naturally, there is a difference between the Gibson version and this Epi version- besdes the price and paint type, it's setup. Gibsons have extra steps done after the frets are in to ensure there are no high spots, either a machine or a crafts person levels, re-crowns and polishes the frets, then appaently cleans all the polish from the fret board before the instrument is shipped. This is often as much or more work than was done than to build and paint the rest of the guitar!
These non-elite Epiphones rely on the truness of the fretboard wood and the frets are pressed into the slots with no leveling step to follow, thus saving the skilled time needed to level, crown, polish and clean the fretboard.
This is not entirely a bad thing, the thick rosewood fingerboards are quite true, and the fretwire is machine polished before being pressed in, so the result is pretty good. The downside is that to really set up right, these cheaper guitars need a fret dressing done after the sale. Also the oxides from the buffing step done when polishing the guitar get into the grain of the fingerboard, making ones fingers turn black at the tips until the oxides are cleaned from the wood.
To me, it's well worth me having to clean the rosewood myself and dress the frets to get such a fine instument. Do not take for granted the Chinese-made instruments, China has been making stringed instruments since before the west had paper.

The guitar first arrived within a few days but had what appeared to be small stress cracks on the neck near the nut. Customer service offered to exchange it and emailed a return label immediately. I returned the guitar at no cost to me and a new one was sent so that it took about a week and a half for the entire process. The new guitar is perfect and I have been having great fun with it.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a keeper. She plays well enough as is, so that there will be minimal set up changes to make. This is guitar number twenty two in my collection and the thirty first guitar I have bought. Some of the ones were not keepers so they were traded. I have three Gibson's, eleven Fender's, a Martin, two Epiphones, a Hofner and couple of unusuals. Most of these were bought on the road or during playing periods when I found a good deal. This is one good deal for a 335 style guitar. Body is comfortable with good neck action. Actually like the sound of the pick ups with the coil tap. It gives a brighter humbucker combination sound. The playability of the guitar through an ac30 is solid. A little to be desired through a Marshall, but the coil tap single pickup bite helps out. Coming through a Fender amp it sounds fine. It is a nice change to play, not the quality of a top line Strat or Lespaul, but a solid guitar to play. Yep, she's a keeper.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

Incredible value for the cash spent. This is coming from an owner of a 1987 Gibson es 335. The Gibson is well made, a very fine instrument. I paid over two grand for the Gibson and under four hundred. for the Epi 335 limited edition. . Friends there is simply not 1,600 in cash gain in the Gibson in my humble opinion. The quality coming out of the Epi China factory is simply incredible. Out of the box perfect. You will obviously get a higher return on your investment with the Gibson, but you pay for that return up front. I am well pleased.

I ordered this guitar and when it arrived the headstock was cracked. Customer service was very easy to work with, they sent me a new one within a week. When I opened the new one I was initially very disappointed. The guitar was really in no condition to be sent off. Everyone has their preference, but the action was absurdly high. Intonation was terrible. The nut was also too high. I got it professionally set up and I fell in love with it. With a proper set up this thing plays very comfortably, and sounds fantastic. If you are ordering one be prepared to make adjustments.

I have been wanting a 335 for years. I finally bought this one on sale, and I'm glad I waited for the 335-pro. Right out of the box it was setup perfectly. It has a beautiful finish and a great tone plugged in or just playing unplugged. It also has more sustain than any other guitar I have played. My new favorite guitar. I'm glad I got one, they seem to be backordered now.
