Other classic features include a tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece for incredible sustain, Wilkinson vintage-style tuning machines, and a rosewood fretboard adorned with small block inlay. Case sold separately.

Received my beautiful ES-335 in Natural finish from Musiciansfriend.com in an amazing fast shipping time. Was packaged beautifully. But the true beauty was the guitar I was lucky enough to pull out of the box! This thing just simply inspires you to play with how amazing it looks. The Natural finish is just a pleasure to look at at with its high gloss finish, yet still allowing all the beautilfull wood grain lines and swirls to peer through. The fret board was beautiful with the block inlays and this is one guitar where I can say the back of the guitar is actually just as beautiful as the front. The neck mohagany wood grain is just so warm and beautiful. But the amazing this is this baby sounds as great as it looks!

The alnico pro pups just give that great mellow blues/jazz tone but can also deliver a great growl for classic rock. The coil tap is a wonderful bonus to play with that allows you to get even more sounds out of this wonderful instrument. I have run this guitar for hours clean through my fender amp and with effects pedals and sounds amazing either way.But the best past of this guitar for me is the easy to play neck. The slim taper D design just fits my hand like a glove! The guitar has some size to it being a 335 but one expects that, and I love it. Tuners look vintage and are functional all at the same time.

The quality on the finish was amazing as well. I feel truly fortunate to have gotten such a great guitar. This one will be in my collection till I am long gone from this earth. If your on the fence and always wanted a 335 like myself, don't hesitate this wonderful limited edition offering from Epiphone delivers in EVERY way! Vintage tone, looks, playability. Get one and enjoy!

First guitar came with a shattered neck. Emily at customer service was great. I got the replacement quickly and the UPS return of the broken one was not bad. The inside Epiphone boxes looked more damaged than the outer Musician's Friend shippers. It looks like they might have been damaged coming from China and not from shipping to me. Second inside Epiphone box was damage also, but the guitar seems fine.
I didn't check poor craftsmanship because it plays well. Nice low action. Neck feels great to my hand. Only one string at one fret has some buzz. Hope it will play out or I'll have our local expert adjust it.
The only bad thing is the paint on the edge of the f-holes on both guitars looks like a 3 year old did it, very sloppy. Then they put a beautiful smooth hard clear coat over the top of the sloppy black paint. Even though I like the guitar and it is going to be a user, I can't give it more than 3 stars because of the lack of quality control by Epiphone. The rest of the fit and finish seems fine, so far.
My son, daughter and I have been playing it for over a week now and we all like it.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

I'm very happy with this guitar. They are calling it a Limited Edition and it is stamped with "Limited Edition/Custom Shop" Not sure what that means in terms of the number they will make, but I'm glad I got one. I really went over this guitar looking for any issues (to the point of using magnifier glasses). As mentioned above, I found very little. For the price, the quality and features are unbelievable. Tone is subjective and dependent on more than the guitar. So for me to describe in detail how great it sounds has little value. But I can't see making any mods to the electronics, bridge, nut, tuners, etc. I did notice a positive change by stringing it with 10's. Cosmetically I'd like it to look more like a traditional 335. Currently it has features from several year's models, but is not consistent with any particular one. With the block inlays, thinner neck and Epiphone version of the "57 Classic" pickups it has many attributes of a 1963 (original, not the current reissue). So a change in knobs, switch tip, pickguard and pickguard support is in order. I've never been able to justify the cost of a 335 since I only play casually. But I have wanted one since I first played one as a kid. There is something about 335's and this guitar has it.
Coil Splitting is a big plus. Very little "hum" in single coil mode. They sound good in both single and humbucking mode. Look and feel are exceptional. Thin neck which I prefer but others may not. I checked the depth (of the neck) and it is in line with the original 1963 according to measurements I've seen listed on sites dedicated to classic 335's. Like other Epiphones it is not a one piece neck. This one actually appears to be 5 pieces laminated together. Some people believe one piece necks are preferable. I don't since laminated wood is less likely to warp. But I won't argue the point. I also checked the depth of the body and it is just slightly over the 1.75" original spec (approx. 1.78 "). Overall it just seems to fit me well and is very comfortable to play. The Cherry color is rich and deep and the gloss finish really brings it out. The tuners are solid with a good gear ratio so it is easy to get accurate tuning. I saw it was suppose to be strung with 10's. Turns out they were 9's. Other features listed in the product description seem accurate.
Small blemish in the finish on the edge of the headstock by the low E tuner. Very minor. Smudge in the paint on the bridge pickup ring. Again very minor. The bridge volume pot had a dead spot. This was a bigger concern since MF could not send out a new pot and there was no way I was sending the guitar back for a replacement. I also didn't want to deal with the manufacture as warranty work. So I popped it out and it appeared the pot was loose inside the body. So I tightened up the bent tabs holding it all together and it was resolved. Not a big deal from my point of view, but might be for others. Otherwise the quality is great. No fret buzz. Action and relief set right to specs. Intonation needed no adjustment. All screws, knobs, pots, jack secured tightly. I can't find any flaws in the binding or inlays. And everyone who has seen it is knocked out be the color and finish. The maple grain shows through and is very clean. No high figuring, spalting or bird's eye. Just a very nice even grain on the front and back.
Maybe I should give this a "9" because there is always a lower price that would make it better. But I am very happy with the price paid.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

I received my Cherry 335 on Tuesday. I spent a couple of days setting it up to the way that I play and the feel I like. I used this guitar for 2 four hour shows this weekend. It performed flawlessly. The tone of this instrument in a moderate volume, live setting was superb. Clean tones are warm and full. Distorted (Tube Screamer or OD channel) absolutely sang. I would highly recommend this instrument. I have been playing live for years this guitar is on par with anything else I have or do use. With the coil tapping it is extremely versitile as well. Very nice instrument. I have read complaints about having to set the guitar up. I have never owned an instrument that fit my needs off the rack. When I buy, I expect to have to adjust a guitar to my tastes. One thing I like about this 335 is that I do not anticipate any electronic modifications. Normally, for me, it is new pickups, pots, etc. No need to change any of that for me.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

At 60 yrs. old and having started out on guitar but switched to bass, I always wanted an ES-335 again that I let get away from me back in the early 70's. I saw this one & read many reviews & took the chance! Maybe I got lucky or Epiphone has in Major way stepped up their game, as mine is a Drop dead Vintage burst 335 out of the box, & was absoublty Perfect!! No Flaws & no need for any tweeks or set up! Just plug, play & a lot of grinning & memories of the old days with my 60's Gibby! Job well done here Epi & MF ! What a bargain & the Epi case for this model is a class act as well! Unless your rich or just have to have the "USA" G-name! You could spend alot more but Why? I've seen Gibsons with quality issues @ times latley, not near as good as this one per price point! IMHO!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

Several months ago I made the mistake of trying out a Gibson ES-335, I instantly fell in love with the guitar... everything except the price tag. Ugh... Ever since then I had been looking for an alternative, I tried every kind of hollow body electric I ran across and nothing spoke to me like that initial Gibson. I had decided that my satisfaction would only come to me in the form of a Gibson so I started to set aside some money to get my dream guitar.

A few months later I stumbled across the Epiphone ES-335 Pro and I had to try it out. All the reviews looked great and the guitar itself was beautiful. But, would it play like the Gibson? Tone? Feel? It was worth a shot, so I ordered one.

What can I say, this guitar is everything that the Gibson was to me; great feel, great tone, beautiful fit and finish. Wow. Total home run for Epiphone on this one. I loved it so much I ordered a couple more (for my son and brother) and I am thinking about getting another.

I just love the blues tones I get with this through a Mesa 5:50 Express. There is tone to spare and the versatility is unmatched by any other guitar I have used.

The only thing that Epiphone missed on these guitars was a good fret polish. But, for the price I will polish them myself. Clean up the frets and put on a set of Gibson Vintage strings and sit back and prepare yourself for total Guitar bliss!

      Loving my Epi ES-335

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

I am finding this to be a great guitar - a delight to play, great tone, everything I'd hoped it would be. It set up well; I was easily able to obtain exactly the action and relief I wanted, intonation is perfect, and I am liking the feel of the neck, which is beefier than what I am used to (mostly strats). I like the look of the bound neck and the fretboard inlays, also enjoying the coil taps and "Classic Pro" p'ups - well worth the price difference from the standard Dot.

I had two issues with the guitar I received, one functional and one cosmetic. From a few other reviews I have seen of some recently delivered Epiphone 335s and 339s it sounds like mine is not unique.

First, I was disappointed with the fret preparation. The frets on my guitar were extremely rough -- they had a surface texture that felt like diamond files and the guitar was basically unplayable because of that. I spent some hours polishing them myself and got everything into reasonable shape, but I think somebody missed a step in QA.

Second, when I removed the stick-on labels that explain the coil-taps from around the volume knobs, I found some splotches of black paint that had splashed on top of the clearcoat, apparently from finishing the inside of the f-holes. This wasn't too hard to fix, but it should have been cleaned up before the guitar left the finishing station. Aside from that, the paint job and binding is flawless.

Bottom line - a well-built guitar that plays and sounds great. Hopefully Epiphone will revisit their cleanup and inspection process where these are finished and issues like I described will go away.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

I would love to be able to give the ES335 Pro a 10. The guitar is a beautiful instrument and I fell in love the minute I pulled it ourt of the box. I was originally on a waiting list for the new EPI 339 Pro but when I saw this model advertised I switched my order and waited two weeks.
I have been playing off and on for 50 years, and have played a fairly wide variety of axes and still own several. Have bought my share through the net and so I was delighted to see that this one was in completely original condition out of the box.
I actually said,"Wow!". I previously owned a Gibson 335 Reissue and I believe that I prefer this one, really. I couldn't find any flaws in the "fit and finish" category and so far it has performed amazingly. Coil taps are not a must for me, however they work very well.
Now we get to the reason I could only give it an 8 in the quality dept. The frets were not finished and polished as they should be, they were just plain gritty. Sorry but you can't play the blues without bending, period. I have read some reviews of the ES339 another of the new PRO series guitars where a similar issue with fret finish has been mentioned. Since the ES335 is so new on the market it remains to be seen if this is a common issue.
I made a couple of attempts to contact Epi as well as Gibson but no luck. However, I did some research on Gibsons web site and under Tech Tips found an article called "Dressing up those funky frets". Some of you may have need of this info, but hopefully not.
Spent about three hours working on the frets per Gibsons instuctions and now have a nicely finished set of frets.
As I said in the beginning this is a beautiful instrument and sounds great,(now) and I am very happy so far. I wouldn't let the fret issue stop me from buying again, it can be fixed if you are patient and careful and follow the directions from Gibson or you may have better luck than I did.
Yes, I could have sent it back but I was so impressed with the instrument otherwise that I wanted to resolve it without returning to Musicians Friend. I have never had a problem with a return in the several years that I've ordered from them, but it was an issue that I could resolve myself so it's all good.
However before you start down the road of the self sufficient, you may want to consider that there is a possibility that you may be creating a warranty issue with Epiphone. I cannot say for sure that dressing or polishing frets falls under the category of routine maintenance, it should but you may want to consult with your friendly local retailer or Epi first.
Having said all of that, if you are looking for a beautiful looking and playing semi hollow body guitar at a truly amazing price I would whole heartedly suggest checking out this new Pro offering.

          Worth the wait

          By Chris Ulibarri

          from El Paso, TX

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

Rather than writing this review, I should be playing my new guitar. This is how excited I am for owning it. Do yourself a favor, buy one.
I've exclusively played a Telecaster for the last 20 years so this is my first humbucking, coil splitting, multi volume and tone experience. I can tell you that the ability to change your tone seems limitless with the bridge and neck coil splitting switches. I am now experimenting with my tone through a Fender Blues Jr so my adjustments are still in the early stages. I will need to make adjustments to both to get the tone i'm looking for. This is a beautiful guitar. I have the natural tone guitar and I can't wait to get on stage with this thing. I believe this is where the first test will be.
For the price, I was expecting far less quality. This was not the case. I could tell as soon as I pulled it out of the box. I spent a lot of time in music stores playing the Dot and other Epi semi-hollows just to see if this was going to be a good investment, especially since no one has them in the stores. To my surprise and possibly luck, it played better than anything I "tested" out in the stores. Out of the box, it plays great. However, I will be taking it in to lower the action and get the intonation adjusted, it is slightly off. I'm putting it through the test now though. My biggest test for guitars is how well it stays in tune. I never had issues with my Tele, and I became spoiled. Playability is smooth and everything seems installed tightly. Time will tell....
I'm pretty faithful with my guitars. Playing a new one is like cheating on a girlfriend or wife to me. So ordering a new guitar off of blind faith from the internet was a painstaking process. I waited for 4 months to get this thing. There were days I wanted to just cancel the order and just get one that was in stock. I honestly don't know why they are only shipping out in such small orders. However, I am so thankful that I did stick it out. I have a feeling once I dial into my settings, this guitar will keep me happy for many more years to come.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

Love, love, love, this guitar! However I did have to return two of them. The first had unacceptable flaws in the finish and/or edge binding (it also looked like they had leveled the frets with a brick!). The second guitar looked great, but one of the volume pots was screwed up (knob came out of pot when I pulled it the first time). Musician's Friend was great about cross-shipping replacement guitars! The third guitar was perfect! The guitar plays beautifully, has great tone, and the ebony version is absolutely gorgeous in person! Of course you have to tweak the set-up to your personal likings, I always change out to my preferred strings (Elixir Nanoweb Light/Heavy), polished the frets, oiled the fretboard, and polished the whole thing with carnuba wax, added an El Dorado Vintage Black Leather strap, and this thing can hold a stage next to any axe out there!

Even though I had to return two guitars, Musician's friend made the process very easy and fast! Plus I never paid a penny for any shipping! Nada, zilch, ZERO! If you are hesitant to order a guitar online, don't be, cause Musician's Friend makes it easy, painless and risk free! I will definitely be doing business with them again! Just today I received a call from customer support just to verify that I was happy with the last guitar! That's what customer service should be ... keep up the good work guys!

          Cheers!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition ES-335 PRO Electric Guitar:

I have been playing and setting up my own guitars for over 30 years...
Like other reviewers have mentioned, the frets are horrible and must be dressed right out of the box.
There also (as mentioned in other reviews) was paint on the top of the guitar, a little goo gone took that off though...still at this point I am ok with it as its not beyond the scope of setting up the guitar for use.
NOW...the kicker was no matter how much I tried the guitar had an incredibly pronounced bow in the neck, every time I would tighten the truss rod the bow would come back within minutes of playing. It got to the point to where I thought the neck would litteraly snap from the tightness of the truss rod.
So I am sending it back, and trying another one.
If this one is the same, I will just buy another Ibanez AM93, which was a great guitar from the get go with just basic truss rod adjustment.
I am highly disapointed in Epiphones lack of QC and complete disreguard for quality in craftsmanship, if this new guitar is junk like my first experience I will NEVER give them another chance.
What a waste of time, energy and money as I restrung the guitar with a new set of Elixirs and already bought the case elsewhere which I will also have to return on my own dime as its no fault of the case vendor that the actual guitar is JUNK!
