OVERVIEW

Les Paul tradition combined with modern professional features.

Epiphone's history and association with Les Paul dates way back to the days when Les, working at the Epiphone factory on 14th St. in New York, created the world's first electric guitar. Over the years, Les continued to work closely with Epiphone by reviewing new product ideas and offering suggestions. The Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro electric guitar combines the best of Les Paul's original design with new features that set this Epiphone guitar apart.

Professional Electronics.
The Les Paul Traditional Pro uses Epiphone's 4-wire, nickel/silver base humbuckers with newly tooled, USA-style bobbins. In the neck position is the Alnico Classic Pro humbucker with Alnico-II warm, thick vintage tone and open zebra coils. It's uniquely paired with Epiphone's ProBucker-3 humbucker. An inspired by version of Gibson's BurstBucker-3, the Les Paul guitar features unevenly wound coils and Alnico-II magnets that replicate that "Patent Applied for" airy tone. You'll love the way they sound! To top it all off, both volume controls feature push/pull potentiometers allowing you to coil-split each pickup for single-coil sounds. Combined with the 3-way toggle, you get 6 unique sounds from one great Les Paul guitar.

Tone Woods with Great Feel!
The Epiphone Les Paul Traditional Pro guitar has a solid mahogany back with a carved top and a solid mahogany neck that's hand-fitted and glued into the body for excellent neck-to-body contact and acting almost like one continuous piece of wood. The guitar neck features a SlimTaper D profile with a smooth and fast "worn" type finish on the back of the neck and body.

Loaded with premium add-ons!
Other features on the Epiphone Les Paul included quality Grover tuners, a traditional cream-colored pickguard, LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge/stopbar, and Epiphone's own StrapLocks. Like every Epiphone, the electric guitar features their Limited Lifetime warranty backed by world famous 24/7/365 day Gibson Customer Service.

I was GASsing for an LP-style guitar with humbuckers and found this on sale. It's a lot of Les Paul for the money: Grover tuners and custom pickups with split-coil volume pots. The fit and finish are exceptional. The back and neck are sort of a stained mahogany with very open pores, which makes the neck feel fast with some very, very slight texture to it, but not sticky like a gloss neck. It's a thicker neck than many newer electrics, but not chunky. Just solid in your hand. It came set up well with moderately low action and the truss rod set fairly well (all was good enough that all I did was stretch the strings and tune). The pups sound great and provide the full range of Les Paul tones, from fat, clean blues and turn-the-tone-down jazz to crunch and growl. I haven't experimented with the split coil much, but for single coil sounds I have a strat and tele. The real value in the pups is not the split coil, but rather the custom sound and unbalanced winding of the Probuckers. I did have a noisy volume pot that produced static not only when turning it, but when simply playing the instrument. However, I took the back plate off, blew out any offending dust, jiggled the pot, and just worked it in a little, and the static is gone. I can't reproduce it now, so I guess whatever bit of dust was in there worked its way out. Also, I don't trust the Epiphone strap locks, so you should either swap out these cheaply built locks for Schallers or do without. Lastly, the heritage cherry burst is beautiful. All in all, a great value and a great guitar even were it not on sale.

This is my fifth epi lp, two chinese, two korean, and now an indonesian. Something is very wrong with this guitar. It plays like a DREAM and components seem to be of good sources, just the build quality for the body and neck is poor. Fret board and maple cap are ok, very open and porous mahogany for the rest. Had to open the back to tighten output jack, and found korean pots, nice touch. Ease of play, layout and generally a good feel and tone. I give it a three for a good try. Not on par with a chinese lp, not near my korean lp custom. On sale I would recommend, full price, nope.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

For a long time I had been searching for a LP Goldtop, looking at different models, comparing specs, reading reviews and, checking out some video reviews. I finally decided this one was it. The pickups in this guitar are awesome sounding! The bridge pickup is powerful, articulate and, the neck unit is so deep and, smooth sounding, put them both together and, it's a win win combination and, that's not even considering that they both have the coil tap option! All the good hardware, smooth clean sounding pots, Grover tuners and, the Gold finish is stunning! I have the Les Paul 60th anniversary model which a truly awesome guitar but, the neck on this Goldtop is a little thicker and, I love the satin finish on the neck and body compared to my other LP. My quest for a Goldtop has ended, this is the one! There are a lot of LP's out there but, if you have the desire to own a Goldtop this is it!

This guitar was almost set up right out of the box. There was a little fret buzz when I lowered the action to the way I like it. Ended up raising it up a little and that got rid of all the buzz.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

I got the gold top. It came out quickly and playable right out of the box. I like the feel of unpainted neck. The pick ups are very good and the coil tap works well. There are no flaws that I can see and the craftsmanship is very good. The quality of Epiphone guitars has improved over the past 3-4 years, and this guitar is a clear example. This guitar reminds me of older Gibson Les Pauls.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

I loved the guitar's, appearance, feel and sound. However quality control is not up to the task, I am afraid. The first guitar I got had severe intonation problems on D, A and E strings on the 2nd and 3rd frets and also the octave tone could not be adjusted right. Note, I made sure that action on the nut and bridge were set up correctly. So I had to exhange it.
The second guitar appeared almost perfect in every aspect until the day 45 when it started making a pronounced static noise, especially loud on the neck pickup. This was not the cable or amp - I tested the guitar with different amps and cables. So, had to return it as well.

Will try some other guitar in Les Paul family

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

I own an '05 Les Paul Standard and a '78 Les Paul Custom, and have been a Gibson guy for decades. Epiphone used to be the cheap Gibson knockoff you practiced with until you could afford a real instrument. NOT ANYMORE. I received the Epi Traditional Pro last week, and my jaw dropped at how well the guitar is constructed and the quality of the components. The next feels great (not slick, a little wood-grain resistance), the pickups sound just like Gibson's Burstbuckers, clean solders, Grover tuners, precision frets...even push-pull pots! The value of this guitar can not be understated. The only difference between the Traditional Pro and a Gibson Les Paul at this point is the wood grain- Gibson is using quality grain woods to make their guitars look "pretty", while Epi is using lower grade wood that doesn't have the same texture. Other than that- NO DIFFERENCE. If you're looking for a guitar, this is what you want. I'm sure you'll be as shocked as I was at the value for the money!

This is one of the best values out there! I own multiple Les Paul's from different companies, including my pro quality Gibson model, but this guitar is a workhorse and can handle the gig scene easily. Properly tuned and played through a solid amp this axe can hold it's own with "premium" model guitars.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Traditional PRO Electric Guitar:

I had previously purchased an Epi LP Standard, and never really liked the pickups - especially the bridge one sounded muddy. I purchased this Traditional Pro because it has better pickups and the ability to split them into single coil. I love the sound of this guitar. It is perfect and absolutely a keeper. Selling the Standard with all haste.

Also, the classic gold top is beautiful. I always wanted one of these, there's something so timeless about them.

I own 2 1960 Gibson Classic Reissue Les Pauls, and I would easily put this guitar up against them. Not only is the tone comparable, but there is the added feature of the coil splitting, giving the guitar a great variety of sounds.

The neck and action is super comfortable the pick-ups are awesome and the ability to split the coils is fantastic. It's the only guitar in my collection (7) that is not US made but it is a keeper! You can't go wrong with this axe.
