OVERVIEW

A comfortable and vintage-style guitar with upgraded electronics and hardware.

The Epiphone Wildkat is an Epiphone original. This smaller-body, semi-hollow guitar has great vintage sound and is remarkably comfortable to play! Now the Wildkat is new again. The stunning Limited Edition Wildkat Black Royale Electric Guitar has been outfitted with a black pearl finish, silver sparkle binding, and nickel hardware to make a guitar totally unlike anything Epiphone has offered before.

Not Like Other Archtops
Epiphone is a leader in archtop design and has been since the 1930's . An early pioneer in archtops even before they were electrified, Epiphone was never afraid to do something out of the ordinary. With no notable changes in archtop design by anybody in decades, Epiphone took the archtop and practically married it to a solid body guitar. And with a sharp new look, the Wildkat Royale now takes its place among all-time great designs.

Epiphone Innovation
The Wildkat Royale’s innovative design starts with a solid piece of warm, sustain-rich mahogany that is computer-routed to create an acoustic guitar-like body except with a “center block” area like an ES-335. The body is then covered with a beautiful black pearl finish with silver sparkle binding and nickel hardware to create a semi-hollowbody masterpiece. The Wildkat Royale’s mahogany body is matched with a hand-fitted, glued-in solid mahogany neck for maximum tone and sustain. It features a rosewood fingerboard and an authentic gold B70 licensed Bigsby® vibrato for even more sonic versatility. The vintage voice of this ‘Kat comes from a pair of Epiphone "dog ear" P- 90 Classic pickups specifically designed by Epiphone.

Other appointments include the historic metal Epiphone name “badge” on the headstock as well as a unique control configuration of 1-bridge volume, 1-neck volume, 1-master tone and 1-master volume. These controls are powered by Epiphone’s full-size 1” 500K potentiometers and matched with Epiphone’s superior all-metal toggle switch and heavy-duty output jack.

Epiphone Hardware
The Wildkat Royale also features premium 16:1 Grover® machine heads for superior tuning stability. All of this great design comes together with fabulous vintage semi-hollow tone and great sustain plus, being slightly larger than a Les Paul and smaller than an ES-335 size, it's lightweight and really comfortable to play!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Wildkat Black Royale Electric Guitar:

Awesome guitar for the price! Except for the knobs which were on crooked and don't seem to fit and the headstock logo a little off center, this guitar is a really a great buy. Replaced the strings after I broke the high E. Intonation is perfect and no buzzing frets. Oiled the fret board and polished it up. Love the Bigsby! Just rub a pencil in the nut grooves and on the bridge and your good to go! Stays in tune even with the Bigsby being so close to the bridge. Ordering some new knobs and hey, the off center logo only adds to the character! Really, I'm very happy with this purchase! Way better than I expected!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Wildkat Black Royale Electric Guitar:

I wanted a small ES-175 style body to install a set of 1952 P-13s for upcoming CD.
The body construction was GREAT n I wanted a Bigsby so all was well.
I took out the stock wiring harness pick ups n switched for a New Old Stock set of
P-13s and made a custom wiring harness, added a roller bridge for smoother Bigbsby action, and a new BONE NUT .
I MUST admit the STOCK pups n electronics sounded fine, I am looking for a true Vintage sound and is why I changed the electronics., nut.
This. Is s solid built guitar and most would NOT have done what I did but I am used to playing Vintage gear n need it for my tone.
I am very pleased with the results , BTW. The BLACK PEARL w/silver binding looks great...oh yeah of course I also added strap locks.
        GREAT AX !!!!!!!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Wildkat Black Royale Electric Guitar:

The first guitar I had to wait for 3 months for but a nice price and willing to wait. I was thinking it would be sub-par...... but when the e-mail said it shipped, I couldn't wait. I saw one in white at local shop and it looked great. The day it hit my house I opened the box (of course) and was amazed at the quality and finish. I wanted to plug her in and see how she sounded out-of-the-box. I didn't tune her.... just plugged her in and started playing. I LOVED THE TONE and depth and the coolest part.... out-of-the-box they had EVERY nob turned to 10!! After playing a bit I threw a snark on it and it was not tuned after the shipping .... but still had sounded so good, so I was hooked. Even out of tune it was amazing. I have sense ordered the Gibson strings it is sent with and it is my favorite along with my Washburn. I also loved the little book on the history of Epiphone. I never liked the name.... sounded cheap and odd...... but didn't know they were from a Greek background and now part of Gibson. I am sold. I also waited a few weeks to make sure I was still in love with this axe. I am. Pure 5 star and worth the wait.

Hooked it up and the sound is overwhelming. Hard driving sound. Feel like Neil Young immediately. Excellent design with no rough edges. If you want to rock, this is a monster with a roar to contend with any guitar.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Wildkat Black Royale Electric Guitar:

          This is an amazing guitar.

Let me begin by saying: I waited a hot minute for this guitar (ordered in January '14, arrived June '14) and it has been well worth the wait! The action is perfect, the tone is beautiful, and the Black Royale finish is a sight to behold (although there are some slight blemishes in the sparkle binding, they don't affect the overall beauty.) The Bigsby isn't something I'll use often as it does knock the guitar out of tune with the slightest touch, but it looks great and it's definitely one of those "better to have it and need it..." type of things, and a bridge or tuner upgrade will help with keeping it in tune. Overall, I am immensely impressed with this Wildkat. Definitely my main guitar for the time being.

The Royale finishes cannot be fully appreciated from a photo. The black pearlized finish with the subtle grey moto body binding is so classy (even the f-holes are bound) The semi hollow body with P-90s and a Bigsby....just wow! Sound is jazzy cool too!

Bought this one used from MF and I must say not a bad gig. With the right effects and amp(s) the tone is great. I'll play it as is with no mods. Has a very nice hollow body sound to it. All out rock in roll seems the best fit for this guitar. One note, the single coil pickups will hum when you get close to other electronic equipment. Other than that, rock on.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Wildkat Black Royale Electric Guitar:

                  My first-day impressions:

Nice neck pickups sounds are alone worth the price. Both pickups on is a little more clear, if less sustained and is more plucky sounding. Bridge pickup is undistinguished to me - not trebly, chimey, thin, or sustainy enough for its position, and lacks output compared to the neck pu. But that's what other guitars are for.

This particular Wildkat is dominated by its neck pickup, which is a great 'I-can-live-there' sound for me, and which is fine at this price. The Bigsby lacks bend range, but that's the nature of the Bigs; better to have it there if neccessary than not.

Warning: the blinding sparkly binding on the neck can be an eyesore with overhead lights, and can lead to a toothache! Too bright. I wish I could roll down the intensity on the neck binding, heh heh.

Summary: The Wildkat Black Royale is kind of like my wife: there are things I just love about it absolutely... yet there are a few nagging things I want to strangle it for. Nonetheless, none of the nagging bits are a dealbreaker, so it's a keeper.

PS: Was any one person ever credited for designing the Wildkat?
