This AJ-500M is just what I was looking for. It's pure and simple vintage look makes it easy to look at...but the sound and tone are the best of all. Mine came set up well and was playable right out of the box. The wood is beautiful, the headstock is art deco, and the top is made of fine lined solid sitka spruce as good as any found on a $3000 Martin. I also have a $3000 Martin J-40, and let me tell you, THIS AJ-500M gives it a real run for the money! Had I stumbled on this baby before I bought the Martin I would have saved thousands. I like it BETTER than the rumbly and dark noisy Martin, and better than the tinny $3000 Taylor which I sold. If you want a quality solid wood guitar for a few hundred bucks, instead of a few thousand..then this is the guitar for you. Grab it now! You will be sorry if you don't! And Musicians Friend is a real class act. I have bought several guitars from them, and they have been wonderful with returns, as well as delivering excellent guitars! Don't hesitate on this one. After 30 years of playing, I know a good sounding acoustic guitar when I see and hear one...and THIS is one GOOD guitar!

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500M Advanced Jumbo Acoustic Guitar:

About once a month I get together with about 5 other guys for an accoustic jam. I usually play my Gibson J-45. The other guys all have high-dollar Martins or Taylors. One has a (beautiful) Breedlove. This month I brought my Masterbuilt to the jam and it was the star of the show. The other guys were just blown away by how great it sounded and played. They all agreed that my Masterbuilt sounded as good or better than any guitar at the jam (and I've got a feeling I'll be seeing another Masterbuilt or two at future jams).Unbelievably the Masterbuilt sounds better than my J-45 and much louder.I'm sure none of us would've believed it until we heard it with our own ears. What a great guitar. I couldn't be happier with it.

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500M Advanced Jumbo Acoustic Guitar:

i spent about 6 hours in guitar center over the course of about 3 days trying to decide which guitar was best for me.i played everything up to and under 1000 dollars. my budget couldnt budge any higher.during my search i picked up many guitars, but after everyone i went back and compared it to this. i eventually came to the conclusion that this is the best guitar anywhere near my budget. it sounded to my ears better than every martin under 1200 that the particular store had(no d-15s). the sound is great! i love a more muddy earthy sounding tone which is probably what drew me to the mahogany rather than the tonally clear sound of he more expensive rosewood. Anyways this guitar sounds amazing and i do not believe anyone would disagree. playability was also a large pull factor. this guitar plays and feels amazing! Visually this guitar is very simple. not a high gloss finish or pearl inlays or anything, just the simply beautiful look of fine woods, which personally i enjoy more. Overall i am extremely happy with this guitar, and i dont plan on ever parting with it. recommended to everyone!!!

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500M Advanced Jumbo Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar is absolutely amazing, it has a thin, fast neck, similar to a Guild GAD 30. The strings are spaced perfectly apart to suit my fingerpicking style and the sound is just beautiful. Very balanced tone with a rich bass notes and high's that sing! This guitar is excellent especially for the value! Epiphone makes a great guitar and is way underrated.

I waited over a month to get this because it was back-ordered but it was well worth the wait! Man, this guitar is much better than I expected & with all the buzz the Masterbuilts get in the press I was expecting a lot.First, the factory setup was perfect! The action is as low as humanly possible & there are no buzzes anywhere on the fretboard. The workmanship is flawless. I am very impressed with the high quality of this guitar. It sounds fantastic. Deep, rich, and loud. I give this guitar 5 stars for everything. And it's a really good price for a guitar this good.

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500M Advanced Jumbo Acoustic Guitar:

I use the Epiphone AJ500M at home and the sound is so sharp, full and "woody," I can't put it down. The slender neck lends the axe well to both lead and rhythm parts. I love the tuners and the satin finish looks classy in the sunburst color. I truly love this guitar and will keep it till the day I die; hopefully my daughter will then pass it on to her kids one day.

      Quality so good !

      By William Wiseman

      from Winchester, Kentucky

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500M Advanced Jumbo Acoustic Guitar:

Only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because a hard case wasn't readily available (I'm sure you can find them tho) and the action is just a bit high for me - it may be perfect for others.
Build quality is excellent - satin finish is beautiful. Intonation checks out very well. Very nice looking mahogany back and sides and flawless spruce top - the guitar looks like a well taken care of instrument that was made years and years ago! It has an 'antique' air about it. The Masterbilt line
lives up to the name... and does Epiphone proud. This is a jumbo, but doesn't seem to me all that huge, it's easy to hold and play, and it is quite loud. It does have a different sound than rosewood guitars, but that means no more than the sound of my voice compared to yours. I like it very much, and for the price, my goodness, what a deal! If this had "Gibson" stamped on it it would cost 3000 bucks - as far as I can tell it is essentially a Gibson in disguise... heck, I love the Epiphone name and logo and stickpin on the headstock... I wouldn't sell it for twice what I paid for it. At 500 bucks this is a true bargain if I ever saw one...
I already indicated quality is excellent - in the above description... I find nothing to complain about.
Only wish it came with a case! I'd gladly pay extra for a good hard case. For me, the action seems a tad high; but it is not bad.

      By 9th Ward Picker

      from New Orleans

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500M Advanced Jumbo Acoustic Guitar:

This Epi is simply a terrific value. An all solid wood guitar, bone nut and saddle. It plays well, easily fretted, sustain and punch all day. Wiggles in your arms it's so lively. Simple, tasteful satin finish. One could easily spend a grand or better and not get a guitar this good. It has a really nice, light case, fabric covered dense foam, hygrometer built in, lockable.

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500M Advanced Jumbo Acoustic Guitar:

I got mine for Christmas, and love it. It just flat out sounds better than any of the other guitars I have tried. It is also much easier to play than others I tried, more tolerant to a beginner that does not hit the bottom of the fret for all the three spots on all chords.

But this guitar. I love it. Fell in love as soon as I heard it. I played 50 other models and this beat out Gibsons, Taylors etc except the Martins that were over $2500. I have a D-41 which is nicer but boy is the Masterbuilt a good guitar. I love the feel and sound of it especially plugged it. It has great sustain, depth and ease to play. The satin finish is nice and the neck feels so comfortable in my hands. Easy to play. As soon as you play one of these you'll smile. Try it. Go ahead. You will buy one.

Buy this guitar, you will not be sorry!
This is a straight-ahead 6 string acoustic dreadnought. The stickpin inlays are kewl, so is the offset headstock notch. The satin finish is beautiful and is does not interfere with the tone whatsoever.
Although it's made in China, the workmanship is every bit as good as a USA made guitar, no sloppy work anywhere.
Where else are you going to find a 100% solid wood guitar for less $$ ?

      Perfect

      By TheSkitch6

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500M Advanced Jumbo Acoustic Guitar:

It's the perfect acoustic in every way. Amazing price for a guitar that plays as well as high end Martins and Taylors. Solid spruce top and solid mahogany sides. Not some cheap knock off of a higher end guitar. It's a line all of it's own and I think it's one of the best kept secrets of acoustic guitars. I bought this used and it might as well have been listed as brand new. The earlier models came with a custom case and I wish they still did but this guitar is still WELL worth the money. The Natural Satin finish is the only way to go. It has a vintage, professional look and feel to it and it seems to help the body resonate so nicely. The tuners are a vintage open style and they look and work beautifully! You can't go wrong with Grovers. The higher notes are easy to reach even without a cut away and the tone of this thing blows my mind every time I pick it up. The basses aren't too boomy and everything has amazing volume. It my even be too loud when singing without a PA. Do yourself a favor and buy this guitar. It's the kind of thing that turns into a family heirloom. You won't be disappointed.

Seriously, this thing is amazing. I have some d'addario phosphor bronze strings on this thing and the sound I get from it is absolutley phenomenal! It really makes me feel bad for all the guys who spent 1000 more than I did but have an inferior. Bottom line, if your budget is less than 2000 there is zero reason why you should not get this guitar.

      Beautiful Instrument

      By Blues-Picker

      from Laurel, MD

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500M Advanced Jumbo Acoustic Guitar:

I recently purchased the AJ-500M (Natural Satin, Nickel) and received it about two weeks ago. Since then I have been getting to know this guitar and have been extremely impressed with it. The satin finish is beautifully done. Not as flashy as a gloss top but still very pleasing to the eye. The finish on the spruce top appears darker in person than in the photos posted at MF. The mahogany on the back, sides and neck is gorgeous, and the construction appears very sturdy. The only blemishes my close inspection could find were a small area of the fretboard binding that seems to have a bit of adhesive residue on it, and the pick-guard could have been executed with more precision, but this is minor stuff indeed considering the apparent overall quality. The guitar plays beautifully. The set-up out of the box was superb, with the action exactly to my liking, excellent for finger-picking. The only change I made was to put on a new set of strings. The neck is smoother than glass and the guitar is very easy on the fretting hand. Not only does the guitar play easily, but it sounds beautiful, with a well balanced tone across the strings and up the neck. It has awesome sustain and is very responsive. I can't recommend this guitar enough. In my opinion, at the current price it is a remarkable value.

Comments about Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500M Advanced Jumbo Acoustic Guitar:

This guitar is amazing. It's rich warm and balanced top to bottom. The highs are very sweet not thin and harsh, the lows have character and with bold mid tones - I can't give it enough credit. I wasn't sure about the satin finish when I bought mine, but it has held up as good as any. The build is absolute quality that rivals high end guitars. Being all solid wood and affordable, I expected the wood choices to be price appropriate and it wasn't, it's very high end and all of the wood is top choice. If you change the pins keep in mind they're 3* instead of the common 5*, so sand to fit of course. I recommend snake wood or ebony but sounds fine as it is. It already comes with a bone nut and bridge saddle set up to play outta box - nice job Epiphone! These guitars no doubt will hurt the higher end guitar market, guarantee it. And they will hold their value and get better as you play them. I now own two of them along with other far more expensive ones. I'm not saying this guitar blows everything off the wall, though it is shocking how good it sounds. I'm saying for the price, you should buy several if you can. You'll know why later. Ha!
