This is certainly a package I'd recommend to someone with not a lot of money to spend. The amp is powerful enough for a small coffee-house, and as I said, the guitar is a treat to play. The included gig bag is what you'd expect in a package of this price, though you'll probably want to upgrade to one with more padding when you can.
This Epiphone is a very comfortable guitar to play. Having used it repeatedly for open-mic nights as well as weekly church services, this lightweight guitar is a treat, both to carry and to play. The 3-band eq is nicely balanced and accurate. I would have preferred a strap nut on the body of the guitar (on the left as you're holding it), rather than having to tie the strap at the head, but maybe that's just me.

The included 15W amp packs a lot of wollop for its size, though I found the built-in chorus fairly cheesy-sounding. Okay for that specific effect, I suppose, though I would have preferred a simple and more universally applicable reverb.
The guitar is constructed soundly, as you'd expect from any Epiphone product. I do have a frustrating problem, however, on the low E-string. No matter what I try, I have to tune it slightly flat in order to maintain accurate pitch when pressed. Plus, at least on mine, that same string plays just slightly "muddier" than the others. I'm sure no one notices but me (at least I hope that's the case). The instrument has a nice, warm sound, though I was a bit surprised at the folksy smallness of the sound. I'm sure it's just that I'd never played a smaller guitar before, and the sound works well for more earthy music. But for dinner music at a restaurant, you're better to stay with a fuller-sounding full-size.

And while solidly constructed, my amp developed a little "crackle" in the volume control long before I thought appropriate.
A very good guitar for the money. A killer deal? No, and I think a little more effort on Epiphone's part would have yielded a slightly less "buggy" instrument for the same money. Still, for 200 bucks, it does what it's supposed to do: sound good.

Comments about Epiphone PR-4E Acoustic-Electric Guitar Player Pack:

I'm a pretty hard grader, and this pack gets perfect grades from me across the board. I am a musician on a budget, and this is a great package for musicians of ANY experience level... and if you are a beginner, there is even a disc in the kit that you could pop in to a DVD player to teach you the basics! Look... if you need a great guitar and you don't want to spend a ton of money getting it or additional accessories for said guitar, BUY THIS PACK. You will not go wrong with it.
You get a lot of bang for your buck with this package. I received this yesterday, and it felt like a Christmas present with how many things you get... Gig bag, strap, picks, ELECTRIC TUNER (not the tuner shown in the pic), amplifier AND a bunch of other goodies. You literally get everything that you need to accompany a guitar with this pack.
I personally love Epiphone guitars, the quality of the other Epiphones I have, and this guitar is no exception. Quality instrument, amp and accessories. \m/
For what you pay, it almost seems like you're robbing Epiphone with all the good stuff that comes with this package. Unbeatable. Way to go Epiphone.

Comments about Epiphone PR-4E Acoustic-Electric Guitar Player Pack:

Seriously folks, I was hesitant, and I am VERY glad I overcame that and ordered this Value Pack. The guitar was set up great when I got it. I changed over to D'Addario Light Phospher Bronze strings, tuned it and that was it. Plug and Jam, the action is great all the way up the board. No buzz, none at all. I tune using rhe Equal Tempered (Perfect Fifth) and she holds the tuning through lots of hours of hard playing. I tend to be rather heavy handed and have had zero problems. I am very pleased with the Epi and recomend it highly. Especially to beginers, the action is so light they will not need to suffer through sore fingers so much. In the words of The Monkees, I'm A Believer.

I have 14 guitars of different makes and have played for more years than I want to tell. This was a pleasant supprise. Good right out of the box. Nice finish, plays nice,a good buy for anyone who wants to rock. The amp is a bonus. It works well and is very loud if you crank it up. Not a bad deal. I bought the black one- Nice! I think this is more than a starter guitar. Very happy!

Comments about Epiphone PR-4E Acoustic-Electric Guitar Player Pack:

I ordered this guitar in February and didn't receive it until April. I kept getting told of new ship dates and was getting quite frustrated. I know it wasn't Musician's Friend's fault and they were always pleasant when I called to ask about it.

However, once it finally arrived, I was happier with this guitar than I expected. The guitar has great action out of the box, a magnificent sound, and easy playability. The natural finish was better than the picture shows (the actual guitar is not white on the sides). I am still amazed at the quality of this guitar for the price.

The amp that is included has a great sound as well and includes two inputs (one microphone style plug and a standard 1/4" plug) as well as a chorus (reverb) button. The only thing I didn't like was the strap and gig bag. I am not a gig bag person so I pretty much just left that in its package (I prefer the hard cases). The strap is just not comfortable or easy to put on or take off of the guitar. I would buy a seperate strap with this set.

I got this pack back in the 2011 (the ebony one). And I could say that I got no problems at all. Nice guitar, good craft, nice sound, and decent pickup.
I'm not saying that I'm going to play with this one on a stadium, but for the price, Is a very good piece. The amplifier has a decent sound also; not the best, but has a good one for small places.

A nice pack for playing in bars in my opinion.

Played well right out of box after tuning. Great little practice amp included with package works well with my other guitar and dobro. Smaller body size of guitar will make it ideal as a travel guitar. Musicians friend always provides great service and information and I am very pleased with this purchase.

I will update my review after a few months after some small gigs and jam sessions, but for the price this package cannot be beat,

I have found Epiphone to be your best value. I have had this guitar for about 8 months and it has become my go-to acoustic. This guitar is well made, sounds great. I love the size, being smaller than a dreadnought. I put a set of Martin FX Flexible Core strings on it and that made this guitar the easyest to play acoustic I own.

Comments about Epiphone PR-4E Acoustic-Electric Guitar Player Pack:

Well, I notice some people were happy with it and some unhappy. Well, I've own 2 and they were both worlds apart in craftsmanship and in quality of sound. The first one well lack of a better term was a borderline piece of crap. The intonation was off, the truss rod was warped and nonadjustable, like it was stuck and the amp started buzzing if I went past 3 on the volume dial. Now for the second one, Why buy it? Well, people were giving it such good revues I figured I got a lemon. So I decided if I'm going to try to buy a decent one I was going to test them, (so don't be shy about asking to test-play a few of them if your local music store has them.) And I was amazed at the difference. The truss rod was adjusted perfectly, the intonation was just right and the amp was of better quality. So there you have it. Some are made better than others. You just need to try them before you buy them.

Comments about Epiphone PR-4E Acoustic-Electric Guitar Player Pack:

I've owned this pack for a year now,and I have to say that it was much more than expected. After a few years of not playing and getting rid of old gear, when the time came that I wanted to play again I really just didn't have a whole lot of money to spend. After quite a bit of research and talking with some friends, I bought this pack, thinking that it will last until I could buy something of better quality. Noe however, I know I'm never getting rid of this baby! Right out of the box the guitar was in perfect tuning, although the strings were crap no problem considering there was a set of new ones in the box. The gig bag was great for caring it around and the tuner was extremely helpfull as I've never been a fan of pitchpipes. And while others have complained of the amp, mine has definatey held up and I'vedone several coffee house gigs where I ran a mic and guitar through it. (Wasn't perfect but it worked decently enough) Oh and if anyone wants to get a case for the guitar make sure to get the Epiphone PR-6E case, it fits perfectly. Great job Epi!!

        Get it

        By hemoglobin007

Comments about Epiphone PR-4E Acoustic-Electric Guitar Player Pack:

I got this guitar because I needed an acoustic electric for stage performances. When I got it I had high expectations, but was prepared return it if they weren't met. The thought of returning it hasn't crossed my mind since I opened the box. I got it in used condition, and I couldn't tell the difference. Since it is an acoustic-electric rig, the amp is pretty loud, so for right now anyways, I don't see any need to upgrade. You will want to replace the strings right away, and not with the spares it comes with. Also, I got a hard case to replace the gig bag, it is rather cheap. The tuner is a piece of crap, if you need an electric tuner, don't settle for this one. Hopefully though, you are buying this for the guitar and amp, not the freebies they throw in with it. They are amazing, and I recommend it to anyone who has a tight budget, is just beginning, or just wants an acoustic-electric without dishing out major cash. Unless you are a pro musician and need something like a Gibson, you will not be disappointed.

He's very happy with it so far...only issue to report is it going out of tune more frequently than he expected, but as neither of us are musicians, that may be more on us than on the guitar itself!

Love the electronic tuner (I really dislike the pitchpipes so having an acutal tuner is really nice).

The only thing I noticed on mine is that tuning the G string (no pun intended) is really hard as you get close to the right key (and I mean dramatically harder than any of the other strings). Other than that, I'm really satsified with my new kit.

          By Hudspe

Comments about Epiphone PR-4E Acoustic-Electric Guitar Player Pack:

So, I went into the music store the other day and I was looking for an acoustic electric. As I was looking around I found a lot of acoustic electrics but they were not in my price range. Then I found the player pack sitting right out side the acoustic room. I opened it up, tuned the guitar, and began playing it. I was overall impressed with the way this guitar played. The action was good and the overall sound was not half bad. I previously owned an Epip DR 150 and the player pack definitly , I found, to be a whole lot better. The body itself is nearly a semi hollow rather than full acoustic. I personally like that because I am used to playing electric and the body fit nicely when I was playing it. The pack coming with everything you need, make it worth the price for any beginnger, and the amp itself sounds really clean even coming with built in chorus effect in it.
