OVERVIEW

A classic with three P-90 pickups and Bigsby tremolo.

The Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 is modeled after one of Epiphone's most enduring classics, the Riviera. First introduced in the early ˜60s, the Epiphone Riviera's semi-hollow design has been a favorite of players from all genres and generations including blues great Otis Rush, Lou Reed of the Velvet Underground, and The Strokes' Nick Valensi, who have all found that the Riviera's legendary ES-body shape could produce great tones with any pickup variation. Over the years, the Riviera has been seen with humbuckers, mini-humbuckers, and P-90s. But now the Custom P93 has the rare distinction of giving players a new sound and a new distinctive look.

The Riviera Custom P-93 uses three Epiphone "Dogear" Alnico-V P-90 pickups for a punch that leaves all other three-single coil pickup guitars in the dust. And when matched with the bell-like tones of the ES-style body, a Bigsby B70 tremelo, plus a stunning Wine Red finish with gold hardware, the Riviera Custom P93 truly becomes of our era's great instruments.

Semi-hollow Design, Solid Craftsmanship
The Riviera Custom P93 is constructed of premium laminated maple with a mahogany center block and a hand-fitted, glued-in mahogany 24.75" scale neck with a SlimTaper "D" profile and 22 medium jumbo frets with a 1.68" nut for great string spacing and intonation. Other details include a rosewood fingerboard with pearloid parallelogram inlays, quality electronic parts including full-size 1" 500kOhm potentiometers, Epiphone's all-metal pickup selector switch, a ˜60s era Epiphone logo on the headstock, and a heavy-duty output jack.

Ground Breaking Electronics
The Riviera Custom P93's fabulous semi-hollowbody sound is voiced by three Epiphone "Dogear" classic P-90 pickups with Alnico V magnets. Controls include three individual Volume pots (for each pickup) and 1 Master Tone. The all-metal toggle works as it would with a two-pickup guitar with the rhythm position activating the neck pickup and the lead toggle position activating the bridge pickup. The middle pickup can be used in any position by adjusting its volume control.

Stunning Colors
The Riviera Custom P93 comes in Metallic Gold with nickel hardware or Wine Red with gold hardware which even extends to the premium 14:1 ratio Wilkinson machine heads which provide superior tuning stability and accuracy. Also included as standard equipment on the Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 is Epiphone's exclusive LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge plus a legendary Bigsby B70 tremelo.

Comments about Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 Red Royale Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I love the way it sounds. Versatile tone. Plays nice. Only issue I have with it is that its back end heavy. If you sit down to play a lot like I do, then you'll have to get use to balancing it or it will tilt back off your leg. That's sort of annoying, but the sound of it makes up for it. Once more annoyance is that it does not have a roller bridge. Come on Epiphone and Gibson, if you are selling something with a Bigsby on it you should include a roller bridge. BC Rich gets it, why can't you? This is my 2nd Epiphone with a Bigsby on it and the 2ns time I've had to spring for an aftermarket roller bridge. Aside from these 2 concerns I really love the guitar and would recommend it. Epiphone, minus one star for no roller bridge.

Comments about Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 Red Royale Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Just received this today! Guitar showed up playable out of box. I may pay to set up but action not bad minor fret buzz, no big deal. This guitar looks great! I have quite a few guitars and wanted the es335 style. This guitar with 3 p90's is just what I was looking for.Neck reminds me of 50's style, which I love. Just got done playing and found great sound w/ all 3 pickups on. Solid build, great look, bigsby, cheap price. What more do you want?

Comments about Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 Red Royale Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I'm 49. I've had lots of guitars. I'm not a snob. Price is irrelevant, so long as the product delivers true and sound. This guitar is a treat. Quality control is outstanding, as this unit was delivered with nearly perfect intonation and set-up. The versatility of this instrument is wide ranging - jazz/ r&r / country. And, it's awesome looking. A bit pimped-out but so very welcomed. This is a guitar to buy and hold onto. A classic.Go for it! :)

Comments about Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 Red Royale Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

This is a very versatile guitar. With three P90 pickups, you can get a lot of different sounds out of this guitar. You can go from twangy surf rock to to warm blues tones to gritty punk and back.
Note that when you see it in person the pick guard is not white. it's mirror-silver. same goes for the body and neck binding. It is not white
It is sliver-flake. It is a bit overstated, but visually striking nevertheless.

I noted that the "neck is fragile". The first one which was sent to me had a broken neck. I had no problem getting it replaced. That's the only drawback to the nice slim taper neck.

Comments about Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 Red Royale Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

This is a quality instrument that rivals more expensive guitars. The action feels just as good as my Gibsons and it is a great addition to my collection. I have shown this guitar to my friends and they cannot believe the quality and sound. The P93 pickups sound great and you can get just about any sound you want with them. This is one of the nicest guitars I own.

Tried the Open Box, didn't work out

Comments about Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 Red Royale Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I first ordered the Riviera as an Open Box in Like New (mint) condition. I thought I'd save some money. The guitar arrived, and I was thrilled. It has a lot of heft. Very solid feeling guitar. Never had a bigsby before, I really enjoyed playing it. BUT the guitar had fret buzz like crazy at and above the 12th fret. I thought, I'll just take it to my guy and have a nice setup done. No problem. Well before I ever did that, I noticed a small crack in the finish near the headstock on the top side. Hmmm, I thought, I don't remember that from the first examination. Before long, there was a complementary crack on the bottom. I called MF at once. Long story short, I shipped the open box "deal" back, and I paid the extra money for the new one. Glad I did. This one arrived with no buzz, good intonation, and so far no problems with the finish. MF made the return process extremely painless. My first experience with a return to them, and it was very good.

Comments about Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 Red Royale Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

I have Fender, Ibanez and Schecter solid body guitars, and I have always wanted a semi. I finally pulled the trigger and hooked the Riviera with great help from JR at MF. It is a beautiful guitar! I bought this one and the ES 339 Pro with two Alnico Humbuckers. They both semi hollow. The Reviera is bigger and heavier, a little fuller in sound. Both are warm in tone and just great. The Riviera F-holes are raggedy on the edge, but solidly painted, and not really visible to an audience a few feet away. Still, its a little disappointing to look down at. Also, the pickup selector switch flips back to center position easily, instead of sitting firmly in positions 1 and 3. But if you want to make music its just the thing. I love it.

Comments about Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 Red Royale Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

Picked this up in a local GC because I had seen a good review on it, and within about 30 seconds of plugging it in I knew this was what I wanted.

I love the 3x P90's. With a dedicated volume for each pup you can use them any way you want. Each one individually, all three together, and anywhere in between, for a total of 7 possibilities. The middle pup is always active with the toggle switch in any position. Turn the volume down if you don't want to use it.

I would like to have more than a master tone, but the sacrifice for the three volumes was a good choice.

The neck feels good. Intonation was spot on from the factory, all the way up and down the neck (your experience may vary). Frets are all well done. Slim Taper D profile, one of my favorites. Good finish. Good access to the upper frets.

            Comes with heavy duty electronics.

Nice weight to it without being LP heavy, but heavier than I expected.

Planet Waves locking strap will not work with this guitar. The tail piece of the Bigsby is in the way.

This is my first experience with a Bigsby. Tuning is stable without a problem. They say you either love them or hate them. No complaints from me so far.

The only imperfection I could find is there is a little roughness at the end of the neck where it meets the body. Like maybe buffing it out was missed before it was painted. Not a big deal at all for me, but someone who is very picky about it might whine.

Overall, this is a fantastic guitar. Getting this type of quality for this price was unexpected. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Comments about Epiphone Riviera Custom P93 Red Royale Hollowbody Electric Guitar:

The Epiphone Riviera P93 model electric guitar is a modern classic. This "Royale" red color is different than the wine red, it is beautiful (in my opinion). These Epiphone P93 guitars are good for just about all genre's of electric guitar music, very versatile, plus they look so darn cool. With the 3 pickups, it makes the guitar seem a bit large and it is a bit heavy, get a wide strap for support. I might replace the bridge with a roller bridge at some point. But for now, this is just another great Epiphone guitar.
