What a value, the Epiphone SST Studio is a well made solid guitar although It is a bit on the heavy side. I replaced the stock strings I am pleased with the sounds that the guitar produces. I was hesitant to purchase the Epi SST because some were manufactured in China although my model was made in Indonesia and it was a restock. My particular guitar is well built and without any cosmetic flaws, I am pleased.The finish is beautiful.
The guitar stays in tune and it is very easy to play although I am probably going to install another strap stud on the body of the guitar to help with the weight. Overall I am very pleased with the Epi SST Studio and I have been playing it every day since I have received it.

It's a great sounding guitar that's also fun to play! It's far more comfortable to play than a standard acoustic guitar, with the bonus of easy to record from, no problems with feedback, and has the acoustic sound that regular electric guitars can't produce. I'm very impressed by this instrument.
I ordered my SST on Monday afternoon, and it was at my door on Thursday! That's incredible service. I applaud Musician's Friends for their prompt, courteous service!

I admit that I used to be anti-Epiphone, but after purchasing several different ones (Les Pauls, DOT, BB King, and recently a SST Classical) I have changed my mind.

It's a breathtaking beauty when taken out of the box! I got the natural finish. The finish is flawless as are the fine details. The top has a lovely fine grain that is accented beautifully with the mahogany back, neck, and rosewood fingerboard.

The intonation is spot-on perfect from the first to last fret. The tuners are smooth and dependable. I changed the strings after testing the guitar to make sure it's electronics worked properly. Does it stay in tune? Absolutely. I had to retune it a few times at first, but that's normal after changing strings. Now, after 3 days, it stays in tune with only minor adjustments after a few hours of playing.

The sound, which is THE most critically important feature of any guitar, is great! I have been using a 40 XL cube in my living room for practice and the quality of the sound is fantastic. I set the cube on solo, acoustic, with a touch of reverb and it sounds like a million dollars! It sounds like an acoustic guitar that someone has a mike on, with the plus of no feedback (full blast sitting in front of the speaker!) and very easy to hold and play by it's thin body.

The neck is slim and an electric guitarist would feel right at home playing the most finger stretching chords!

The built-in active equalizer is very effective in adjusting volume, treble, and bass. I've been keeping the bass up a little, the treble in neutral, and volume all the way up and making the rest of the adjustments on the amplifier. But I've only had the guitar a few days, so I'm still experimenting.

I've read some complaints about the battery (9 volt) wearing out quickly. I've not found that to be the case thus far. I've played it for about 10 hours now, and it's still working fine with the battery that was shipped in the guitar. By the way, battery replacement is a snap! No screwdriver is needed like the earlier versions required. So changing the battery is no big deal.

Recording directly from the instrument is just like recording directly from a Les Paul...pure sound, no hum, and clear as a bell. Obviously, running it through your favorite pedals is no problem. I'm finding that for myself a loop pedal, a little digital delay, and touch of reverb makes me totally happy! Of course distortion, equalizers, compression, shifters work equally well with this instrument.

I think any guitarist would find this a great addition to their guitar arsenol regardless of the style of playing.

Last month, I got the SST Classical guitar and I was so taken by it's sound and quality, I decided that I had to get it's twin, the SST Acoustic. I applaud Epiphone...and Musician's Friend!

I know some people are critical of Epiphone . . . and so was I. But I've changed my mind about them over the years and am pleased to have several of their guitars.
The physical quality of the instrument is flawless! There is NOT one thing that needs improvement. The binding, the finish, the color, the wood quality, the craftsmanship is as perfect as any company could make a guitar! The gold plated tuners just set off this guitar and make it a show stopper BEFORE playing the first note! It's easy to play and very comfortable to hold for hours. The neck has a nice feel to it and good action.

The sound of this instrument is what you'd want from an acoustic guitar, without the hassle of feedback.

I have a hard time putting this guitar down to be honest!
If a guitarist is looking for a guitar with good sound, looks good, is comfortable to play, but is not impressed by the name on the headstock, then this is a fantastic value. Of course, everyone has different opinions, so the best thing is to pick one up and play it, then decide. I'm very impressed by this instrument...and its "twin" the SST Classical.

I needed a back up acoustic electric. I took a chance on the Epiphone SST because of the price. I play everything from Haggard to Hendrix on acoustic electric and using various pedals. I was impressed with the look and action (after removing the awful strings and giving a complete cleaning and conditioning of the neck. I use D'Addario medium strings. The neck and the action is awesome and reminds me of the early 60's Gibson's that I played in my early bands back in the 60's. I would definitely tell anyone looking for something like this to buy it and not waste time looking around. The price alone is worth buying. The only I didn't like is that a hardshell case is not included. Order an SST and you'll be impressed!

A bult-in tuner would be far more useful than the headphone option. The guitar has enough natural acoustic volume for practice.
They should add a strap button to the body near the neck.
Lastly, MF should carry the SST ECACS case. This guitar is best for stage use, so at least sell the case !
These Indonesian made Epiphones are made very well. A real surprise for a budget guitar.
Excellent sound and build quality for the money.

I have played this along with the Gibson counterpart and this does hold up well against it. I am not saying this is a gibson level but it is a very nice instrument. It plays well the neck is a little more of a D neck. It sounds good doing things like Nugent and other acoustic blues and hard rock. It does have a very nice tone for light passages. My 2 critiques are pretty standard found on almost all epiphones with piezo. The High E is lower in volume even if you try an level the saddle. Not sure why this is true in almost all epiphones. The second is the 1/4 jack. the connection is loose and can't be easily fixed. Becuse its a switching (on/off) jack you cant use a standard replacement. The issues are not enough to return the instrument and it is a very nice guitar with good value

A great starter guitar. I've owned my for about a year, and being my first bought guitar its been pretty good to me. Its nice to be able to slap in some headphone and jam out where ever. It has a great acoustic sound; through headphones and amped. The craftsmanship is good and it stays in tune very well. All in all I've been very happy with it, except for one thing. The big draw back that I have noticed about the guitar is battery life. I didnt have a problem with the battery until I started playing on a regular basis and then I started noticing that I was going through batteries like crazy. It wouldnt be such a big deal but in order for the pick ups to work it has to have a working battery in it and thats even plugged into an amp. Its kind of annoying to pick up the guitar to play and the batteries out. So if your looking for a mid to low end priced acoustic/electric guitar that durable and fun to play then this is it.

I bought it and I returned it! The quality wasn't there. Sorry for the truth of it. The battery cover strap was busted before I even finished unpacking. The body had a very discernable joint/seam misalignment. Very obvious when viewing a reflected light source off of the black body. The sound was o.k. but once I consider the flaws it wasn't worth it. I have an Epi Les Paul quilt top and a Jr half stack. Both great quality so I took the plunge on this and knew immediately it was a bad deal. For the price there are better choices to be considered. Final point: all the purchases were from MF and they were great all the way. I'm done buying equipment for awhile (because I bought everything I needed)but I'd buy from MF in a second.

Ok, so I researched this guitar, among MANY OTHERS, and finally decided on it because I gig with a full band sometimes and wanted an Acoustic that could hang without pissing everyone off about the feedback. I have to say, this guitar kinda grows on you. You have to dial it in, but once you do, it's a great sound. I was looking for that early Dave Matthews Band Live sound, and I finally got it out of her. For the price, you can play this outside under a shell or awning or tent in ANY weather and get the acoustic bright sound and not worry about warping or destroying the guitar... It really is a GREAT BUY and I would suggest it to ANYONE who needs a GOOD back up or RAINY DAY guitar. The one downer is that there is NO TOP STRAP PIN which is annoying, but if you use strap locks then that lets you pick where you want it, which is a good thing I suppose. Oh, and the other bad thing, it has an Epiphone headstock, which means it's probably NOT fitting in a regular case. Buy the EPI case or good luck trying to find one it fits in!
