Now this guitar is only meant for people who want a buttload of distortion and pretty much nothing else. I took some time to get accustomed to the guitar before I wrote a reveiw to see if I could find any flaws. I think I might have found like one or two...if that. The first and best thing about this is the EMG active pick-ups, these things scream! It makes beautiful noise and pretty much opened me up to a whole new range of sounds and brought a lot more tone to my band altogether. The neck is very comfortable, but if you like thicker necks then I would look elsewhere. This guitar is really light, I would give a good guess at maybe 3-4 lbs. That makes it perfect to throw around...if you're confident enough at least. The inlays on the photo's look white, but they are actually pearlescent, so they have like a green hue to them under the right light. I heard a lot of people having difficulty with the thing staying in tune and I think it was the strings they use. I use D'Addario .10's and it stays in tune all the time. Another thing relating to it is that the pegs are really sensitive so you when you tune you have to pay attention and sometimes it'll sound out of tune when it isn't. Just play that annoying sound out.The things I noticed on the bad side is that this guitar's neck gets really slippery when you're sweating. The only other thing that I could possibly complain about is the fact that every here and there you have to put a 9V battery in the guitar, but whatever. The only reason I didn't make this a 10 out of 10 is because there are better guitars out there. Like the Deluze EC-1000. Great purchase that saved my music

I have owned this guitar for just over a year and I just now decided to write a review. I pay alot of attention to other reviews when I buy new gear so I wanna pass along my experience. The EC400 is great to look at and OK to play. I gave a 9 on features cause it has all the usual features a guitar should have ... I gave 5's on quality and value for this reason ... This guitar no matter what style you play will need to be tuned after at least every song and no matter the action, there always seems to be a buzz on the fretboard. There are some expensive guitars out there so the value is what it is. The pickups are fantastic for hard loud music, depending on your rig of course. I own three other guitars,an Ibanez RG570 and a 88 Peavey Vandenberg custom and I usually buy every seven or so years. I'm not sorry I bought it..but I'm already looking for a new guitar, leaning towards the never fails American Fender Strat.

Hey Babe, Nice Axe!

By VersatilityIsNumber1

Buddy of mine lent me this to use while my Epi LP and Epi Dot were getting pup replacement. Sunburst model w/ Duncans. If you like a thin neck, lite weight LP copy, this is it. Lighter, hotter pups, thinner neck, better hardware (tuners, jack, switch). Granted, my Epi with 57 Classics is better, but it cost close to 1K to put together. Careful with the EMG models though - played one at local store, and uber-hot with lousy cleans. Only other axe in this price range I like as much is the Yamaha AES620. More heft, better sustain, thicker neck.

A Great Guitar

By ESPguyforever

from Louisville, KY

I bought this guitar a few weeks ago from a local music store, and I am so glad that I did. It was probably one of the best investments I have made. The sound out of the EMG 81 is amazing to say the least, but the EMG 60 isn't really for me (though it is great for some clean tone or lightly distorted blues scales). I'll probably replace the 60 with an 85. It took me a while, but I finally got the settings on my Marshall MG15CDR and my Boss Metal Zone right to get the sound I like (you'll want to lay off the distortion as these pickups are very hot!). This guitar is loud! I play in a band, and our drummer plays very loudly (so loud he puts dents in his three week old Zildjian cymbals), and this guitar can flat blow that thing away, even with our crappy speaker system. I've played a Les Paul Custom, a Strat, a Dean Hardtail and more, and the playability of this guitar blows them away. You can really shred if that's what you're into. The EMG's pick up every note you hit, and they scream. The sustain is incredible. It looks, it feels, and it sounds fantastic. If you play metal or rock, you will not be disappointed.

Wow.

By cutsman_8x

I got this guitar in the See-Thru Black Cherry model with the EMG's. Let me say first that these photos do the finish of this guitar NO justice at all. This finish is just beautiful. In the photo the flag inlays look plain white, but they are actually pearl. Beautiful guitar. Secondly I was blown away at how clean the pickups sound. I was always told that EMG's were meant for full throttle distorion, but even on a clean setting you can get great tone and awesome clarity. Also, this guitar is rather light. I picked it up and was surprised at how weightless it felt on my shoulder. Overall, if you have the bucks, buy this guitar. It won't disappoint you.

Gotta play it to believe it!!

By Jestreme

from Roselle Park, NJ

This guitar caught my eye from the start. It has a beautiful appearance. This is just the gravy because it feels and sounds great. The strings do buzz just a bit, but this can be remedied with some adjustment. I bought the vintage sunburst model and it did come with EMGs which sound great through my Marshall. I'm not sure that you can buy a better guitar in this price range. I believe that it was designed for some really heavy grooves. But, with the right setup as far as your amp and effects go, I'm sure that many things are possible with this baby. The sustain is excellent, even on the high notes. If you want a guitar that feels and sounds high quality but won't cost an arm and a leg, this is the one.

Baddes Guitar For the Money

By C****C*****B*********

from Louisiana

I have played on 5,000 dollar Les Pauls, and $15,000 dollar Martin Guitars while those are great, the price isn't. The price you pay for this guitar is well worth every penny you pay for it. It sounds just a good or better than the big expensive Les Pauls or Martin Guitars. This is the best Guitar I have ever owned and played period. This is like getting the baddest Lamborghini available for the price of a Honda. It has the looks and tools to play whatever you can throw at it. What are you waiting for GO BUY ONE!

Tuning Nightmare

By cntjasna

from Sallisaw, OK

See all my reviews

I have owned this guitar for almost four years now. My BIGGEST complaint with it is that it will not stay in tune. I have sent it to a guitar repair shop twice to see if needed adjustments. It still gets out of ttune after evry song. I like the pickups and the finish is drop dead gorgeous. In the past year I have onnly used it for a back-up incase I bust a string on my Wolfgang or Fender Deluxe. Do yourself a favor and pass on this one. Out of my twenty years of guitar playing, I have to say that this guitar is the worst investment I have ever made.

great guitar!

This was my 5th guitar. In order, Squire Strat, Epi Les paul, LTD-F100, Schecter C-1, and then the EC-400. By far this is the bestguitar i have owned so far. I play more rock and metal, but the clean tone is still one of a kind. Depending on what kind of style you play, you might not like it, obviously this doesnt do very wellin jazz and blues. But if ur into rock and metal, this is the one!

Great but Could Be Better

By FixxxerJunky

from danville, WV

I own this guitar and as far as the action and playability of this guitar it puts those low end gibsons to shame and even rivials the high dollar ones. The emg 81 are awsome. I mean their is no better pickup out there for metal. You get that awsome hevey sound and underpicking sounds great. The downfall to this guitar is that it doesn't stay in tune very well, especially if you play thrash metal. Fix that problem and this would be the best guitar out their for the price!!

Got it for graduation present a couple of months ago, it is a beauty. Just looking at it makes me want to play it. great sound, pickups are as good as you can ever imagine for the price. frets don't ring, stays in tune. all you can ask for in a guitar.

Not as good as the sum of it's parts.

By BillR GA

from Acworth, GA

I purchased this guitar becuase it had all the ingredients I was looking for, Hot looks, fast neck, and EMG active pickups. I had it professionally set up, stretched the strings and played it a LOT. I gave it plenty time to break in. I couldn't get the action as low as my Les Paul without fret buzz, and it just wouldn't stay in tune. The pickups on my LP sounded way better than the EMG's. I exchanged it for an Ibanez guitar and I'm couldn't be happier with my exchange.

Awesome!

By Grimm-d_Mu9

from San Mateo, CA

This an awesome guitar. The mahogany body really gives this guitar elite tone, and the finish on the body is to die for as well. The neck is very fast and easy to play, and the flag inlays are sweet. I am very impressed on how great this guitar stays in tune. I have not had any problems with tuning at all! The pickups are the cream of the crop and really make this a metal les paul. Overall, this is a reliable and comfortable guitar. It's a keeper for sure, and it will stay as my number one guitar for a long time!

By A7XDrummerA7X

At First I Didnt Like the guitar because the resale was horrible...but If You Want A Guitar That You'll Never Sell, Here it is. I Play Everything from Hardcore To Blues, and it has awesome heavy sound, and spectacular sound in general. The Cons Are The Resale And The StrapHolders Become Loose all The Time. But The Pros Are an awesom deep sound and has a wide range of sounds and a spectatcular finish with the sunburst...

I love this guitar

By Drewster the Rooster

from DeLand, Fl

I bought this guitar last december and it has been my favorite guitar since then. I like it because it has the EMG 81 and EMG 60, that way I can have a great lead pickup with tons of gain and sustain, then a great rhyme pickup that gives me that James Hetfield-like crunch.Plus the EMG 81 delivers great sounding pinch harmonics. I got the guitar in the see-through black cherry. It looks amazing, it blows the black and sunburst colors out of the water!! The mother of pearl inlays are also a really nice touch that catches the eye. This is just an all around great guitar...great sound and great looks. The only problem is it can be alittle bit awkward to solo way high up on the neck, but you get used to it. This guitar is great for the price, and the active pickups are unbeatable.

smooth and easy to play EC-400

By long live rock

from K. Falls OR

This guitar stepped up my playing. I have only been playing a few years on a Cheap Fender Squier. When I began playing this ride, I felt more relaxed and in tune with the guitar. It holds its tune even after hours of hammering away. It is very consistent and does some of the playing for you!

Great

By Anonymous

A suprisingly high-quality guitar that rivals guitars twice its price. A solid, yet light beast that has oceans of warmth. The combination of pickups and hardware lend themselves to many different music genres. I've had mine for two years and played it live dozens of times. I've recorded several studio projects with it, and I've never had a problem with it. A very reliable Axe, you can't do better for the $$$$.

AMAZING GUITAR

This is my first guitar, and it is beautiful. I purchased the olympic white one, the finish is amazing. This guitar sounds pheonominal with its EMG's, it sustains for days. Nice fat sound. The guitar sounds AWESOME with distortion, but the downfall is that it doesnt produce a nice clean sound. Other than that, Great buy !!

Talk About Bang For The Buck

By Metallicaman-ypQ0t

from Undisclosed

I have had this guitar for about a year now and I have loved every moment of play on it. The Black Cherry looks so much sweeter in person than in the photos. It plays very well and has an awesome tone. With distortion the pickups sound amazing. Stays in tune better than almost anything. The only two slight complaints that I have are: 1. The compensating nut can get in the way of playing on the first fret, but it does its job well enough so it's worth having 2. The 2 E and A strings do buzz on the frets just a little bit. But hey if you have the amp cranked up who can hear it, right? Overall the quality is amazing. My roomate plays with an Epi Les Paul and this stomps it in every way, and I think he even knows it now. So def no regrets here! Would def like to buy another ESP again. Thanks again Musicians Friend for the great service.

dream metal guitar

This guitar is just about perfect for playing metal. The EMG's pump out some hard core low ends and sustain. The only complaint i have is that of the hardware on the guitar. Other than that it is a good buy.
