I had to wait about a month to get this because it was backordered, but it was way worth the wait. It's a lot lighter than you'd think an explorer shaped guitar would be. It's a bit neck heavy, but not as much as a Gibson. The neck is a tiny bit thinner than the Viper 400's neck. It's perfect for both lead and rhythm. The finish is beautiful! The most stunning guitar in my collection. Ever since I got this, I haven't played my Esp Ltd Viper 400. The bridge pickup sounds a lot like active 85 emgs. The neck isn't bad, but I might switch it out for a emg 60 or 81. With coil tap, the guitar sounds just like an acoustic. It couldn't be cleaner. You get the smoothest tone out of it. You can go from death metal to smooth jazz on this. The only flaw about I can think of is it goes out of tune about twice a week, but I also yank the strings ^_^ It's definitely worth every penny spent on this guitar.

Basically this is a well built guitar structurally but the PUPS and tuners are definetely lacking. I ended up putting grover lockers on it because it would not stay in tune for more than 5 minutes even after several pro setups and the pickups while respectable will not keep up with EMGs like some posters have suggested. I have put EMGs in this guitar now and it was a night and day difference. This is a good beginner guitar but if your expectations and taste are more refined then spring for the fx400sm and save yourself the time of replacing parts. The overall costs ends up being about the same if you did the mods that I did.

As I was scrolling through the ESPs and I came across this beauty I fell in love. Other people must've done the same, it was backordered and I waited for around 2-3 months, but it was definately worth the wait, this guitar is everything I dreamed of. Amazing tone, smooth playability, and it just wails. I have not even touched my other 4 guitars since this one arrived and will never put it down. This axe is a keeper.

Great Guitar

I have been collecting guitars for about 20 years and have everything from Gibson 335, les pauls to old fenders to Ibanez classics like an original Iceman and this guitar is well built has good pickups and the coil tap feature is awesome. Came set up well out of the box and plays very well. The spalted maple is really cool (the reason I bought mine) and has a great neck. All in all a beautiful axe.

This guitar has nice responsive pickups a slick neck and its amazingly beautiful. I just wish it had the standard pointed headstock!!! ESP PUPS RULE BY THE WAY, Dont be fooled I have an Ec-1000 deluxe and these keep up with my EMGS. People have also been complaining about the strings that came with this....you do know you are supposed to change strings regularly ....Right?

Maybe this guitar doesn't fit the visual needs of the usual ESP crowd, but it rocks. Hard. And well. And fast. And cheaply. Seriously, this guitar measures up to a high standard of quality at a nice price, and has some unique vibe.

Surprisingly amazing, really amazing

I went to the music store to try out different pickups because I knew that store had quite a variety of guitars with different brands of pickups. I played a esp ltd viper 400 and was really disappointed. The pickups weren't all that great. I picked up this one since I've been wanting to try it for a long time and I was blown away at how good the pickups were compared to the DiMarzio's and EMG's. The neck was really easy to play on and out of the hundreds of guitars I've played, this one tops the list. If you really like this style of guitar and want great tone and feel, you might as well save yourself $ and get the FX-260 instead of the FX-400.

I bought this guitar after playing on quite a few different ESPs.It has a slight buzz and a great sound. Sometimes it will wail when im not playing which not alot of people like. haha. So far its pretty good for metal. My favorite guitar is still the ESP viper 400 series. They play very similar. If you ask me the only difference in the two is that the viper has a cleaner sound.

Can't be beaten for the price

I was about to order a Gibson SG 61 reissue (which I did) and saw this guitar featured in a Guitar World review. I thought it looked cool and I didn't have an explorer type guitar. It got a great review from Guitar World so I thought "why not get this one too while I'm spending 2 grand?" It was a very wise decision. I have an ESP EC-50 that I got to use while deployed and couldn't believe the quality for the price so I thought this one might be pretty good too. Not only does it look extremely nice, but it plays and sound great especially for the price. I honestly don't think you could get a better deal for $400 bucks. If you're looking for a cheap starter guitar, a nice looking collection piece, or something to use in a show this is your guitar. It's plays and sounds as good as some of my guitars that were twice as expensive. I highly recommend the FX-260.

Rockin guitar for any guitar enthusiast

I bought one of these from my local music store about 2 weeks ago. Mine has everything you read here but the finish looks more like fx 400 picture which I prefer anyway. Let me just say this guitar is great for the money. It plays wonderfully and is surprisingly balanced. I believe it is a touch smaller than what a standard explorer is as well.I will be changing out the bridge pickup for probably either an 81 or a SH-5. I'm still being wishy washy about that. Not that the pickup that comes in it isn't fine I just want a touch more balls out it. But i would gig with it the way it is. Great deal, great guitar.

A Crazy Guitar for a Crazy Price.

By ESPMOFO22

from Genoa City, Wisconsin

I just got this guitar about two weeks ago and let me tell you it is friggin' amazing. It stays in tune forever, I tuned it just once when I got it and that was it. I put some DRs on it and with the two EMG pickups the sound is just amazing, none of my other guitars even compare. The neck is really smooth and easy to play up and down on and the spalted maple look is just b****ing! you'd be stupid not to try this guitar, you won't find this kind of quality for this kind of price.
