Ok, I'll keep it short as possible.First... When the guitar arrived I did a full inspection looking for dents, blems, broken items, ect... The UPS man had no problem waiting a couple of minutes. It passed initial inspection. Second... inspection of the headstock, neck, and body...Beautiful so far. Third... Did a quick tune and basic playing. Well, that needed some help. Fouth..... Fix the fret buz first by raising the bridge ever so slightly, works perfect now. Fifth...loosened the allen screws at the neck nut so you can use the tuning keys, and raised the fine tunning screws 1/2 of the screw lenght out of the lower bridge and tuned the guitar with a tuner and tuning keys at the neck Stock. Sixth....once the guitar was in tune with a tuner,I tightned the neck nut allen screws (not too tight) just enought to hold the basic tune of the guitar. Seven...... Intonation... use the tuner for the open E(6th string) and 12th fret harmonic E with the tuner and every string after in the same mannor (order). Adjustment screws are all you have to deal with, If you don't know how it is done, just go to utube. It's easier then you think to do.
NOW, you have a guitar just about any pro would play and Like it. This model came with cleartone strings that are sweet and slick.
Truly this is a diamond in the rough until you do your adjustments. Then it's a Diamond. For the money and little time of getting to know your new ax, this deal cannot be beat.... Love it!!!!!!

The 5 best guitars I own

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I have a really nice '70's Strat, a classic Les Paul, and an Ibanez ART 100 in my guitarsenal. This ESP MH-100 QM makes them irrelevant. While all guitars with multi-position pickup switches have them for differing tones, the switch on the MH-100 QM is like different guitars. The tonal separartion from one position to the next like hanging up the Strat and grabbing the Les Paul. Every position on the p-up switch is a completely differenty axe, none of which I owned before I got this miracle in luthier-ness. You know all those really cool, epiphany-evoking guitar sounds you hear from time to time, but can never seem to find or re-create when playing? Yep. All of them, right here in one seminal, Rock History changing chunk of maple and guts. ESP has outdone themselves, and everyone else. Paul Reed Smith wishes he could make a guitar as good. He can't.

Excellent

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I replaced the pickups with Dimarzio's. An AT-1 in the bridge and Cruisers in the neck and middle and now this guitar is absolutely amazing. The build and quality are good. The action was good and the maple neck is smooth and easy to play. Since replacing the pickups the sound is exceptional. The Floyd on it is average and is great for small dives and vibratos. Not really great for super dives but for the price you cant expect it. I love this guitar and have had guitars ove the past 22 years in price of up to $2600 that I dont think was as good as this.

Good, but...

By Stuart Crosby

from Georgia, (U.S.)

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

The ESP MH103 has a good feel and a good sound. However, anyone considering this should be aware that the color of the guitar may not be quite what is suggested by the Musicians Friend picture of it. The one I received is a lot darker and had a STRONG greenish tint mixed with the blue. It doesnt look bad, but its not like the picture. If you want to see what I mean, go to wikipedias list of colors. The Musicians Friend picture of the mh103 is a vibrant patchwork of Cobalt and Midnight Blue. The one I received was a more understated blend of Prussian Blue and Deep Jungle Green. Also, the pattern was not as artistic as the pattern in the picture. If one is OK with these things, he should like this guitar.

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I bought this recently and it's pretty decent. As far as the looks, the picture doesn't do it justice - the quilted top is fabulous and looks a hundred times better than the photo. This is my second ESP LTD guitar. Mine has a minor flaw on the side of the neck where they must have had a problem with one of the frets. It looks like they just filled it in with wood filler. Doesn't affect the playability at all. Stays in tune fairly well. I love the fretboard. Neck is smooth. Sounds ok. Basically a good intermediate level guitar that can't be beat for the price.

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I was shocked when I first saw a guitar with a 24 fret maple fretboard. I returned several times to the store to try it and had to have it. This guitar flat out rocks! I had been playing an LTD M-100 for 10 years. This one is in a similar vein, but the neck is thicker and has H-S-S pickups instead of H-H. The extra thickness did not bother me at all. The finish is a thing of beauty. It has great sustain and sounds good clean or distorted. And yes, it stays in tune. I did, however replace the whammy bar with an old one from an M-100 since those come up higher. The price can't be beat either. It also has openings in the back so that you can adjust the springs without taking the back plate off. ESP has truely outdone themselves with this one. This could be the best purchase I have ever made!

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I played this in guitar center today, and all I can say is wow. First thing is first, the finish is beautiful and it goes well with the maple neck! The licensed Floyd Rose is awesome. I can divebomb effortlessly with it. AS far as I know this thing will stay in tune forever! My only problems with it are the pickups and the neck. The pickups are ok, but when I buy this guitar, I am going to swap them out with a pair of DiMarzios. The neck is pretty thick, but who cares? I have big hands! All in all for the price, everybody should buy it!

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar on Scratch and Dent because I was too wary of the LTD product line to spend full price. I have been pleasantly surprised! It looks great--but beware: the blue is a LOT darker in real life and the quilt does not show up with such contrasts as the picture shows. The locking trem is good: well designed. The neck feels good and they have been considerate enough to enhance the cutaway for more access to the high frets on the lower three strings. It's got good sound: I play through a modeling processor, so I can get what I want anyway. What's really surprising is how warm and sharp the clean tones are. The only thing I'm having a problem getting used to is the fret height: they feel REALLY tall (and I'm used to playing jumbo frets, too). All in all, this is a SUPERB bargain for the price. I'd buy it again--even at full retail. For what you get, even full retail is a killer deal.

Wow for the price, wow for the features!

    By Tyler Smith

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

This piece of hardware is one Heck of a deal. First off, the ESP pick-ups, although stock pick-ups, are pretty hot and give plenty of tone color. The finish is gorgeous and doesn't have a flaw on it. The Floyd Rose slips a bit here and there, but that was expected. The only real issue I've had with this guitar is the screw that keeps the tremelo arm in the system slips loose from time to time, but nothing a bit of tightening won't fix. Long story short, I highly recommend this guitar to new users of a Floyd system and to veterans alike. If they release anything like this again, you can count on me getting it.

    Thin neck?

    By Mattalica

    from Lancaster, CA

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

Good quality guitar, looks great and sounds good, but I was expecting a thin neck, like the description says, however this couldn't be farther from the truth. This guitar has a huge neck, fatter than my Les Paul, so I would hate to see what ESP calls a big neck. Anyway, if your lookin for a guitar with a fast neck, dont look here, this things' got a 2x4.

    By cfast1

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I bought the MH-100 QM which is basically the same guitar(rosewood fret board, double humbuckers) and what a value for the dollar. This thing just screams. My main gutar was an ibanez s series prestige and I wanted a backup so if a friend wanted to jam there would be a second guitar around. This guitar gets played more than my ibanez and I find new sounds that I wasnt sure it would make every day. The factory pickups sound great and just scream if u need them to and it sounds great clean as well. The trem is much nicer to use than the edge on my s series and the finish is beautiful, darker than the pic shows but I like that. The neck Is fast and it stays in tune forever. Very light wieght even compared to my s series. The value cant be beat. I never thought you could get so much guitar for so little money.

    Not Bad

    By Kyle-wxuJV

    from Agawam, MA (near springfield)

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for about 3-4 months. I'd have to say that it's a really good guitar for that price. The distortion sounds great. The Clean could be a little better but that doesn't matter. The Floyd Rose Tremelo was good for a while but i got sick of all the adjustments i had to make just to put it in dropped D. You have to unscrew the back and adjust the springs if you change tuning or diff. gauge strings. But If you don't mind all that work, its a great guitar with good value for that price.

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

This is my first Floyd Rose bridge guitar so its kind of a new style of playing for me. I've been playing guitar for many years and own vintage Gibson's and Fenders in addition to newer models. I decided that I'm not going to buy a guitar that I'm afraid to take out of the house for fear of damage. This guitar. my first ever made in China, is a real rocker and plays and sounds like a guitar for much more money. Its a tremendous value. The single coil pickups are bright and deliver the bite you would expect in a single coil. The humbucker in the bridge packs a fat tone. It came set up in America, and the action, intonation, was right on. The extra jumbo frets are a slight bit rough along the neck side. but not a big concern. For players who do not understand the Floyd Rose bridge concept with locking tuners, this type of guitar may
be a challenge. The description of the guitar and pictures convey exactly what I expected. This is a very well built guitar for the price and a great value. I would recommend it for mostly rock and whammy bar use in particular. It stays in tune after much use.

Comments about ESP LTD MH-103 Quilted Maple Electric Guitar:

Purchased this as a Level 2 return item with supposedly hairline scratches on the top. What I found was a beautiful finish on the entire body of the instrument, but a 1/2" long hairline crack near the volute on the top side of the neck right at the routed square where the FR locking nut is installed. I attributed this to the speed of the factory worker at that step, sanded it out, and finished the entire neck with clear MinWax polyurethane gloss. I do not sweat to the level of some on my left hand when playing, and find a finished neck much more comfortable, faster to play, and provides a moisture barrier to protect that nice rock maple neck and fingerboard. A couple of high frets, which I re-seated, and some excess oxidation on all of them, but you can't knock the feel of a thin-U neck with 24 jumbo frets. I put a DiMarzio Super 3 in the bridge, and also bought an HS-2 for the middle position, but after playing a bit with the factory pups, I got attached to the tonal palate of the hot single coils ESP is using in the neck and the middle position; they sound great together or individually, and at lower volumes, clean up to be very useable and articulate for jazz and other types of music. With the Super 3 in the bridge and the middle single coil running, you have a shred machine deluxe. The Super 3 is wound to 25Kohm and starts pushing your preamp at less than half way on your guitar volume pot. The sounds coming out of my JCM 900 and 2X12 are exactly what I was trying to achieve to cover Def Leppard, Whitesnake, etc. A nice surprise was finding full sized Alpha brand pots in both positions for tone and volume, and the wiring and soldering was as neat as a pin. This is my first guitar with a FR, and while I am really enjoying it while learing what I can do, make sure you get your strings stretched as best as you can before evaluating tuning and bridge stability. Black chrome hardware is top notch and beautiful.

I went and bought this guitar for my 18th birthday since its been a very long time since I've gotten a new guitar(3-4 years precisely) and this guitar is so sweet. The neck is thin enough to where you can shred and thick enough to write some really cool licks distorted and melodic stuff on clean.
