OVERVIEW

Comfortable design with a choice of exciting tone woods.

The ESP Xtone Exotic Wood Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar is luxurious looking and sweet sounding. It offers plugged in performance for the stage and is available in an assortment of exotic tone woods that are among the most beautiful you can find.

Your choice of woods
Usually you'll have a choice of finishes, but with the ESP Xtone you have something deeper—an actual choice of tone woods. Apart from their dramatic difference in appearence, each exotic wood has its own sonic character.

Ovangkol has a deeper "more rosewood" type tone
Spalted maple is a bit warmer and not as bright as regular maple
Zebrawood creates a very nice full sound with dark overtones
Paduak is similar in tone to the best rosewood

Playability
The ESP Xtone has a comfortable body design and features a smooth cutaway for upper fretboard access. The thin U neck has a 25.5" scale and is easy to finger notes quickly with its extra jumbo frets.

Electronics
The onboard B-Band pickup/preamp system has the controls necessary to find your sound on stage and to help fight feedback. It features an active 3-band EQ, a chromatic tuner, and a handy feedback-busting phase switch.

FEATURES
  • Set-neck construction
  • 25.5" Scale
  • Mahogany neck
  • Rosewood fingerboard
  • 42mm standard nut
  • Thin U neck contour
  • 20 XJ frets

I picked up the Paduak model of this guitar as a restock. I got a great price and a great guitar. Prior to purchasing I went to the ESP website to compare and this model and the description/pickup matches up with the AC-20E model. There are some youtube videos online from ESP that you can watch to get an idea of how the guitar will play.

Some pictures of the paduak model show it as a bright redish finish. Those are poor quality images. I really love the finish of this guitar and it plays/sounds great. Every time I walk by and see it, I want to pick it up and play it.

I gave it five stars for the restock price because I got and awesome guitar.

The item arrived and it was a very attractive piece. I ordered the stupid deal of the day refurb. What I received had the face and headstock of a zebra and the sides and back of something else. The label inside said the model was an AC-20, not an XW-Z as it should have.

That was all ok with be, but unfortunately the active electronics did not work. I called the next day and received a shipping label to return the guitar. That was almost two weeks ago, the replacement should arrive in two days.

Comments about ESP Xtone Exotic Wood Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Godd guitar, overall.
I bought this guitar to play around the house, and it is great for building up your chops. The onboard tuner is one of the best, and the guitar is in tune with itself (unlike many models). The 10th fret has a defect that causes it to buzz and that fret is not playable (manufacturing defect). However, if you get one without the defect, this guitar is good enough to play jazz fusion (it's fast, and the sound is solid and bold). I have not played it through an amp.
The overall quality is rather high.
Very good, because it usually costs a lot more to get a guitar that is in tune with itself.

Comments about ESP Xtone Exotic Wood Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I am not disappointed. The guitar sounds good and looks good too. I got the paduak model. It was a restock so I got it for much less. In fact, that is why it is getting 4 stars. If I paid full price, this would have gotten three.

The problem I have with it is that the frets are not cut cleanly and you can really feel them as you move your hand up and down the fingerboard. I am going to take a file to them soon, but that is a tedious task I would have rather have been done by the manufacturer. When I am done, however, this will be a steal of a guitar that sounds good, stays in tune with itself, and plays great.

    Beautiful Spalted Maple

Comments about ESP Xtone Exotic Wood Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Sounds as good as it looks and plays even better! But seriously....I am very happy with this guitar. Only complaint is the color of the back of the neck next to the beautiful spalted maple body clashes a little for me. Aside from thaT - the neck feels and plays great, nice action, and nice bright sound.

Comments about ESP Xtone Exotic Wood Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar as a restock and I am very pleased. This little acoustic shreds like a heavy metal axe. The extra jumbo frets are tall and could use a filing but otherwise the guitar feels good. The ash woodgrain looks superb! The tuner is accurate enough and the preamp is strong. I usually don't go for really pretty instruments like this one, but in this case my gamble paid off. I would pay full price for this guitar and feel good about the purchase. Thanks, MF!!

highly impressed! for the money, this thing is T-Totally loaded with high end features. I think it sounds great through an amp,,,, unplugged is pretty loud too and sounds awesome. i got a restock and could only find a couple of "very un-noticeable" blemishes in the clear coat. this thing is beautiful and worth every penny that i paid. Thanks MF!

Good 2nd guitar. I bought this one as my Tacoma Cheif was too expensive for the kids to be playing and so I wouldn't worry about it breaking. Good quality and sound for the price.

Bought this from "Stupid Deal of Day - Restock", and was greatly pleased with it. Online photos didn't do the finish justice. Beautiful mother-of-pearl trim and gold-toned tuning pegs. Rich full sound. I'm a beginning player, so onboard tuner makes tuning simple even for me. Stays in tune. Only minus is no pick guard. A lot of quality for a modest price! My son and his friends are experienced guitar players and they loved the sound quality.

Comments about ESP Xtone Exotic Wood Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Got this on the stupid deal of the day and definitely not dissappointed. Unplugged the sound is not as full as most jumbos, lacking bottom but plugged in this guitar is awesome. The tone controls/tuner are top notch. Playability was pretty good right out of the box and like someone mentioned the frets could use some filing but is very playable just the way it is. Finish on this guitar is cool and for a couple hunderd bucks the workmanship is awesome.
