OVERVIEW

Modern upgrades for a classic icon.

The American Deluxe Stratocaster electric guitar maintains its traditional look and feel while introducing upgrades that include three N3 Noiseless single-coil pickups that still produce their revered sparkle and snap and-with noiseless design-no annoying hum.

The S-1 switching system adds additional pickup combinations beyond those provided by a standard five-way switch including new combinations of series and parallel wiring for a dazzling array of tonal choice. The compound radius fretboard that modern guitarists demand ensures strings won't fret out even with extreme bending.

Other improvements include the high-mass tremolo block that increases sustain; locking tuning keys; and a molded case with glass-reinforced latches and TSA locks.

Fender N3 Noiseless pickups
N3 Noiseless pickups deliver the best of yesterday and today, because they deliver landmark vintage Fender tone and response without the hum that can plague single-coil pickups. Using an improved stacked coil-coil design, N3 Noiseless pickups are specially tailored for each Stratocaster and Telecaster pickup position. The insulated metal core of each pickup position type differs in thickness and composition for enhanced tone, and Fender has fine-tuned the sized, shape, and wire gauge of the coils to balance the magnetic responsiveness essential to great tone. N3 pickups represent a welcome return to the warmth and clarity of alnico magnets. An Alnico 5 magnet is used in the bridge position, Alnico 2 in the middle position, and Alnico 3 for the neck position. Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.

Bought Fender Stratocaster American DeLuxe. Saved an additional 30% by purchasing a Used Condition #2, but instrument appears new, with all case candy and protective clear layer and stickers on pickguard. Set up by David Higginbotham at Templar Instrument Repair. He said it had the best finish he had ever seen on a Strat, noiseless pickups have great tone, S-1 switching is very useful, and neck perfect for his hand. Stock aged white hardware matched the aged white pearl pickguard I selected. All this plus locking tuners, tight tremolo arm, and bullet-proof case. Fender and Musician's Friend are a great team. Can not be beat!

Like other reviewers, I found the pickups on the deluxe model thin, with no distinctive tone, no matter the witch position and the S-1 switching. For $1500.00 one would think that fender would provide great sounding pickups. Although the guitars is beautifully finished, I for one do not care for the compound radius neck, because it makes barre chords more difficult, going way down the fretboard. further, I never heard anyone complain about note bending on a American Standard Strat, with its 9.5" neck radius. To me the American Standard is what the Strat is all about. Save yourself $500.00 and get one instead.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have lots of guitars and play both in a large church and in a well-known regional rock band. This Strat is up there in quality with my Gibson Custom Shop stuff, James Tyler stuff and Tom Anderson stuff. I've had lots of Strats over the years and generally keep one to do "that sound" that only a true Strat will do. I can say that - for sure - this Strat with the S1 switching system and the N3's is the best "out-of-the-box" Strat I've had - all things considered. This is the only guitar I own with a compound radius neck and wow! Bends up high never fret out due to having low action. Mine is the Olympic Pearl with the rosewood neck. Came with a really nice case (kinda looks like a flight case with the TSA lock - but it's not a true flight case, just a NICE case). Included straplocks, locking tuners and even a cord and a nice strap. I won't use any of that, or the case (unless I sell it down the road a few years), but thought that it was very nice touch. My only negative on this one was the floating trem springs (it shipped with 3) were really light. Made it pretty-much impossible to rest my palm on the bridge without making the Strat sound phasy... Replaced them the first day with 5 Fender vintage springs and "decked" the trem so that it is solid against the body and travels down only. You really don't lose any trem function that you'd use in the real world and it also increases the sustain. Overall, a real deal at the asking price here. Wait for a good MFriend coupon and the deal is even better. Nice work Fender and thanks MFriend for the great deal. Most pleased here.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is the best guitar I have ever played. It just feels like it is made for me to play. The balance is amazing. It contours to the body, it has a comfortable neck. It almost plays itself in some ways. It rings when I play it.

I really like the compound neck. It makes a huge difference; when I'm playing low on the neck, it doesn't fret out. The notes ring out more clearly than with any other guitar I own.

I love that it stays in tune. I have gone 3 days without tuning it.

Once everything settled in and the guitar is used to being played, it is just a great guitar to play. I can pick her up and play her without having to continually retune and worry about how it sounds.

I don't feel worthy when I am playing her.
There is NOT a non-usable tone in this guitar.
After playing Mexican strats, this guitar is SOLID!
I think it's a little high-priced, but it didn't stop me from buying it.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I like my MIM, but love my American Deluxe. If you can find a used one, get it and you won't regret it. I would love to see what a master like SRV could have done with this guitar.
I have an 2008 Olympic White with rosewood fretboard. The S-1 Switching system provides at least 10 different base tones for a greater variety musical styles. I am not normally a fan of the tremelo because they seem to always pull the strings out of tune. I can generally play several songs with hard tremelo and have no tuning isses (unlike my MIM of whic I replaced with a Fender Custom Shop flame hard tail and Texas Special Pickups). The tuning keys are great and my first experience with the string lock feature, it makes changing strings so much easier. The guitar also came stock with strap and strap locks. The custom fit HSC is light and takes up little space when transporting.
The guitar came very playable out of the box. I gauged up the strings to 12's and keep it tuned down a half step (a al SRV). These changes did require a setup adjustment. I play it through a 40W '93 Fender Blues Deluxe and have no issues with the tone of the guitar. I personally do not like the tone when not playing in the "noiseless" mode (seems a little tinny).
The guitar is great but seems a little bit overpriced now. I was fortunate enough to get mine before the big price increase in 2009.

Am Deluxe 2011 Review

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I own both a 2005 American Deluxe with Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups and the 2011 American Deluxe with N3 pickups (as well as other Strats with regular pickups and Fralin pickups). The new 2011 American Deluxe is a definite improvement over the 2005 model, and the N3s are definitely more "Strat-like" than the SCN pickups. Additionally, the new compound radius neck solves the string bending issues of the 9.5 in radius up and down the 2005's neck. As such, I can get the action lower without fret buzzing and without tone canceling when bending strings. I like the improvements A LOT, and while the N3s are not perfectly the same as a standard Strat, they are VERY VERY CLOSE.

American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar

By Jon Paske

from New Zealand

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

It would have been 10 out 10 all round but as there was a paint chip/crack on the guitar body and rough wood patch on neck, I think it would have been better in the "Gently Used" catogory not "Mint" as this would have saved me around $100.
That being said I really appreciate the quick reliable service and especially the free frieght.
I would certainly buy from here again and recommend them. I think I might have just been a little unlucky that mine did not quite match it's description.
It is still a wonderful guitar and I'm proud to own a piece of classic Americana.
Excellent pick ups and S1 control gives huge selection of tones. Beautiful feel and look to guitar.
A couple of flaws in the paint and wood work let it down but plays beautifully and feels wonderfull.
Certainly the N3 pickups are great for noise reduction.
Maybe a little over priced if it is a seconds guitar, would have been better in the "Gently Used" catogory.

Guitar has so many versitle tones with the N1 Switching. The Fender sound is all over it.
What can you say, a Fender is a Fender. A beautiful guitar. Has American quality all over it. Set up was perfect right out of the case. The finish perfect. Sound quality, it's a Fender. The N3 noiseless pick-ups work very well, they accomplished what they were intended to do.
What you would expect from an American made Fender. Excellent.
You get what you pay for. Guitar is priced just right for the quality you get and the Name behind it.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Purchased this guitar as "Used Condition 1" after returning a American Standard. The guitar arrived truly untouched with plastic still on the pickup covers. This is the best out of the box setup I have ever seen. The action was low without fret buzz and the intonation was perfect. The N3 Pickups are fantastic honestly. I would consider myself a bit of a tone snob, insisting on Mogami platinum cables and tube changes every 6 months. I can honestly say that the N3s sound as good or better than any Texas Specials or Duncans I have ever played. The fit and finish are simply amazing for a guitar at this price. Buy this guitar, you will not be disappointed!

I am very skeptical about buying on line because you can't feel playability or quality of the guitar. My Fender American Stratocaster Premium came to me set up and in tune and the finish was perfect. I sold my Stratocaster Custom Shop to buy my new Premium Stratocaster and pocketed the change. This plays and sounds much better than my very expensive Custom Shop and Musicians Friend turns out to have the best pricing on line so they really are my friends.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've been a die hard Gibson guy for the past 14 years. I have had many strats including an original Deluxe when they first came out. My complaint has been with the necks and the pickups on the fenders lately. The neck on mine is awesome and the fret work flawless. I chose a Tungsten with a rosewood fretboard. I love the medium jumbo frets. The pickups are what drew me to this guitar. I was visiting a local music store and heard someone playing one. I had to see what it was. The N3 pickups sound great and the S1 system allows you to get some great new sounds. My only complaint is both models I played buzzed out of the box but a setup will fix that.Kudos to Fender for a job well done!

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Over all I love the Guitar and would buy it again. I would recommend it to anyone. Fender has a winner here! I would also recommend Musicians Friends, Staff was very good on the phone and had my guitar send out right away, at a good price.
I have the Sunset Metallic, with Rosewood fretboard, and It's sexy as hell !
Love the S-1 Switching, Guitar came with very nice case and strap locks. The pickup are very good, lots of treble. Locking turners are awesome ! The only feature missing is a bridge with tuners on it. I may upgrade to a Floyd Rose. However the bridge that came on the guitar works fine, and stays in tune. It will only bend a half step though and doesn't really go up at all.
Quality on the neck, frets, and body are perfect. I had one very light scratch on the bottom horn, but nothing to worry about. Paint was wonderful ! When the Guitar came the bridge was set real high and the neck needed slight adjustment. I had the guitar professionally setup, and the man who adjusted it, fell in love. The string are now super low, with no buzz what- so- ever.
A bit pricey but worth it.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I received the Olympic pearl strat with a rosewood fretboard for graduation. Prior to this I had a Fender MIM strat with Bill Lawrence Keystone pickups. The MIM with the keystones is a great guitar that I will play for years to come, but the new american deluxe is in a new category. The photos do not really represent how fine these guitars look in person. The Olympic Pearl Strat has a very high quality finish that looks like it would have some texture to it, but it is completely smooth. It isn't white like the photos look. It really looks "pearl." The attention to detail is amazing. Everything on this guitar was put together great and the setup was great out of the box.The tone/sound is what you are reading this to find out about. This is the most versatile guitar I have ever played. I play anything from clean finger picking to heavy metal with an emphases on blues. If you have ever heard anyone state that you cannot get great tone with noiseless pickups they have not played the new deluxe. These N3 pickups give you classic strat tones in every standard position. When you start playing with the S-1 switch you will find a different guitar. This guitar is a great guitar for any type of music I would play. You get your bell-like chime, fender quack, smooth Hendrix, SRV with a bite, and even some Slash with a good pedal and the S-1 switch.I find it hard to give this guitar a 5 for value, but I would pay twice that to get this kind of versatility in tone.

I looked at several different Stratocasters before finally deciding on the American Deluxe. Fender has done it again with this model! The playability of the maple neck is smooth as butter. The clarity and tone of the N3 pickups are amazing. With the addition of the S1 switch there are an array of sounds for your tonal palette. I also have a SSH Strat, and an Epiphone Les Paul, but the sound from a SSS pickup Stratocaster is truly unique! The sparkle and snap of the pickups are amazing! There is nothing like a USA made Strat! You cannot go wrong with this guitar. I have always wanted a Fender Stratocaster and am very pleased with this model. Time to jam!

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Having a small recording studio requires several guitars for different sounds. All of them are American made, such as Gibson, PRS, & other Fender Strats and Teles. To give you an example of how much I love this Stratocaster. My PRS is more than twice the value, but I would part with it before I would the American Deluxe Stratocaster. The S-1 switching gives a whole new meaning to using an array of pickup settings. The neck and frets are made so well, it gives a whole new meaning to the ease of playing. Mine is Tangerine Orange, which is no longer made. The finish is a work of art, and it is a pleasure to play. This is a guitar that could be used for any style of music you play. When using it with my Marshall JVM410 half stack, it is sick. If I plug it into my Fender Twin Reverb, smooth country, blues, or jazz sounds great. The American Deluxe is far superior to the American Standard, and worth the difference in price. They go up in price every year, so do yourself a favor and order one now.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I love the guitar ... I did change the .009 strings to .010. By doing that, there was minor adjustments for the truss rod, bridge height, nut (I filed a bit to accomodate larger diameters and to bring the strings down just a hair), and of course, intonation.

I DO have to bring the volume up on the amp a bit because the noiseless pickups (at prescribed height) have less output than normal. Listeners have told me, though, that the guitar cuts through the band's sound nicely. AND, the pickups are noiseless ... when I have a distortion pedal on ... QUIET! Unheard of with a Strat!!!

Very easy to play, beautiful finish, and I'd say the nicest Fender guitar I have ever owned.

          Fave Strat

          By Ron Stratkind guy

          from Winnipeg Canada

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have owned many brands of guitars and Strats are still my favorite. I bought the 2010 Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster because I like these N-3 pick-ups and the revised S-1 switching system. The N-3 pick-ups DO NOT sound harsh but they have good definition and detail with a nice fullness and warmth. The compound radius fingerboard makes chord playing comfortable with more contour 9 1/2" radius closer to the headstock and with a flatter 14" radius closer to the body you can bend strings with less chance of notes choking out. The size and neck shape are very comfortable. The satin finish on the back of the neck is so fast to play on. The 1, 2 ,3 positions on the 5 way switch with the S- 1 switch engaged are thick and fat with more output and the 4th postion is clear but warm. The 5th position is truely out of phase but you can find times when it is neat to have as a different sound when you get used to it. This is my favorite guitar out of all the guitars that I have ever owned for sound and versatility and I have owned PRS and Gibson and Charvel and Jackson and Ibanez.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

The tremulo handle is a little hard to get used to, as it falls away when you let go of it. I really like the locking tuners speeds up string changes and keeps the strings in tune even with the tremulo.
The American Deluxe plays incredibly smooth. I have a Standard American and a Mexican Tele and have had to have them both set up to play like I like them. But the Deluxe American came set up and the fingerboard plays like a dream. The noiseless pickups deliver incredible tone and sustain. I am so impressed.
I can tell there is more quality in the finish and the feel of the American Deluxe by just holding it.
Good value for the price. Is now my favorite player, even over the Country Gentleman.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I selected the 3-tone sunburst with rosewood fretboard. For the past 6 years I've owned and played Fender maple fretboards, exclusively. I recently rediscovered the rosewood on the C shape neck and had to get it back into my arsenal. The S-1 in this 2014, is different from the S-1 in my primary electric, a 2010 V neck w/maple fretboard. I have all the tone I can use, now. Well built, beautiful, feels good & sounds great! It's everything I asked for. Thanks Fender & Musician's Friend!

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Perfect guitar. N3 pickups have great sound and versatility. Finish on guitar is amazing. Musicians friend was easy to deal and the guitar shipped on time. I am very happy with this guitar. I was looking at Gibson SG, Les Paul's and PRS and feel I made the right choice. I can't imagine someone not being satisfied with this guitar.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Like other reviewers, I found the pickups on the deluxe model thin, with no distinctive tone, no matter the witch position and the S-1 switching. For $1500.00 one would think that fender would provide great sounding pickups. Although the guitars is beautifully finished, I for one do not care for the compound radius neck, because it makes barre chords more difficult, going way down the fretboard. further, I never heard anyone complain about note bending on a American Standard Strat, with its 9.5" neck radius. To me the American Standard is what the Strat is all about. Save yourself $500.00 and get one instead.
