OVERVIEW

Incorporates evolutionary advances while retaining the look and feel that has made the Stratocaster legendary.

The Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS is for guitarists who demand more from their electric guitar. The compound-radius fretboard encourages exhilaratingly effortless string bending anywhere along the neck. 2 new Fender N3 noiseless pickups supercharge your sound with improved Stratocaster tones while the DH-1 humbucking bridge pickup is right there when you need to take everything up to 11”all with no hum.

Reconfigured S-1 switching offers even more knockout tonal options. The all-new "passing lane" switch instantly routes your signal from any pickup position to the bridge position with the tone circuit bypassed, blasting overtones and volume straight into the Strat-osphere. Other American Deluxe features include staggered locking tuners, an LSR roller nut, 2-point synchronized American Deluxe tremolo bridge with pop-in arm, and a beveled neck heel. Fender includes a molded Fender-exclusive SKB case with glass-reinforced latches and TSA locks, cable, and strap locks with the American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS.

I upgraded to this from my Mexi Deluxe Players Strat that I loved. The enhancements made it worth the switch. The locking tuners make replacing strings a snap. The rollers in the nut are amazing! I can do a huge whammy-bar dive and it stays in tune! It is the only Strat I've ever played that I can actually use the tremolo. Normally I've only used it on the last song of the set since it will need to be tuned after its use. The upgraded tremolo with the snap-in bar is also better because it stays put. My other Strats with the threaded bar were either screwed down tight, or else flopped around when rotated a half turn to get it out of the way. The noiseless pickups will unleash my tone at one particular gig venue. The low ceiling and neon lights made my old Strat unusable without my noise gate maxed to cut the hum. That much squelch strangled the tone as well. Finally, the carved heel makes it so I can comfortably get all the way up the neck. I was looking at a 24-fret guitar so I could get up there, but nothing else plays or sounds like a STRAT. Glad they solved that for me. I love the humbucker that gives me a decent Gibson sound. That's one less axe to lug around to gigs. I tried a Les Paul with a coil-tap--still sounded like a Gibson. You can make this Strat sound like a Gibson, but can't make a Gibson sound like a single-coil Strat.

I have many other Strats which I all love, but decided to take the next step up to the American Deluxe, mainly for the compound-radiused fingerboard, which I love.

Pros: Action and fretwork are the best I've ever played. The radius is subtle, yet noticeable aand extremely comfortable. Very solid joint. Definitely feels like it will last a lifetime, which is good because it's probably one of the very few guitars I will always keep. Locking tuners and pre-installed strap-locks are a nice touch. The case is also great, and I have no hesitations about shipping the guitar in it (it's already made the Transatlantic journey once). S-1 with the HSS gives many voices. But...

Cons: The pickups. Firstly, they were set up horribly. I understand that the humbuckers are going to have more output than the single coils, but the volume difference made switching pickups undoable. As for the sound, they've definitely got a more modern sound to them. It's actually quite a "perfect" sound, but to the point of being sterile and characterless. Unfortunately it sat in the case for most of the past year because, while it was incredibly great feeling to play, it sounded pretty boring to play. Of course, that's just my opinion and others may love the tones. I've ordered some new pups to stick in there to hopefully get some more life out of it. My second major gripe has to do with the body. I got the Olympic Pearl with maple, which is a beautiful finish, but even with the opaque finish you can clearly see, and even feel, the seam where the body blanks were glued together. It's a good 0.5mm raise. I would've been surprised to see this happen this badly to a Squier, but the fact that it passed QC to an AMERICAN DELUXE is absolutely unacceptable. Unfortunately, that's just one of the risks of buying blindly online. It's still not a bad guitar because of it, and sure it's just a cosmetic issue, but for that much money I would've expected a little better. Once I get new pickups in it, this will definitely be a great guitar.

Best guitar out there!

By Hockeycollector

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I own a Fender Deluxe HSS Strat, American-made. I own double-digit guitars including Gibsons, other Fenders, Taylors, etc. and this guitar, by far, outshines the rest. I have been playing guitar for over twenty years and by far the HSS strat is the best guitar out there. The humbucker in the bridge position gives you an SG sound, the bridge pick up is sweet for cutting leads through the mix, and there are so many possibilities with the remaining pick up configurations and S1 switching. This has become my number 1 guitar and provides everything from Angus to SRV and any genre of music can be handled with this axe. It's pricey at well over a grand, but in this case it is well worth the money. Fender could have done without the molded case and provided a nice hard wood tweed case - ybut that's just a detail...

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I've owned this guitar for 5 years, bought it new in black (gold pickguard) with a maple neck when they included the locking tremelo. The guitar when new was set up almost perfectly, like it came out of the custom shop. The range of tones available with the coil splitting is remarkable, and the neck pickup is hot. The ball bearing nut on the deluxe versions allow an almost endless sustain.Just recently I had a luthier here in austin tweak the neck a bit, adjust the pickup height, perform a little fretwork, and re-spring the tremelo. It now plays like air. Definitely my "go to" guitar.I suggest you try one of these out if you're looking for a strat. I am very happy with my purchase and plan on keeping mine for a looooong time.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I've been eyeballing this guitar for a quite a while and saving up to pay for it. My wife surprised me with overnight shipping right before I went out of town and my new guitar got to make the road trip with me. I'm a church worship director and this guitar gives me so much more ability it's not even funny. The features of this guitar are amazing and it fills the room with great sound & tone. I wish I had the money to buy more products just like this one.

The best Strat

By vintoni

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

This guitar showed up like it came from the custom shop. Extremely versatile in tone, extremely fast action (once set up), great smooth neck (I got the maple). Sustain is enormous with the deluxe "nut".Too bad they don't offer the locking tremelo like they did when I bought this in 2005. It is a go-to guitar, you will not be dissatisfied with this purchase.

S1 switch & middle pickup dead

By jam-y-4MR

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

Just got this guitar. Was really excited when it was delivered. It is really nice looking and lightweight. Sunset metallic is stunning. Started to play it right out of the box after tuning it. about 15 minutes in, the S1 switch died. Then middle pickup was dead. No sound. I was really dissappointed. When it did play before it died, sounded OK. Humbucker really screamed. But I then compared to american standard strat that I have. I think I liked my standard better. Nicer looking and feeling neck. standard sounded better too. Anyways, I sent it back. Too bad. was really looking forward to keeping it.

Ask me a question

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I took the plunge and bought this because I wanted a good American Made Strat. I own way too many guitars, but none are USA. First off, the finish and craftsmanship is superb. It plays great and stays dead in tune despite not having the DLX locking bridge that earlier Deluxes have. My only issue is with the pickups. The single coils seem a bit soft - particularly the neck. The humbucker in the bridge is great and the middle is OK in position 2 (Bridge + Middle). By itself, it's not so hot - same with the neck pickup. I usually rewire all my strat type guitars to make position 3 Neck + Bridge, but am a bit Leary to dive into this one due to the complex S-1 wiring. The "Passing Lane" button is a nice touch and really generates a much more aggressive tone than switch position 1 - amazing how much tone is lost when the pots are in the mix - even when wide open. I guess my biggest issue is the S-1 switching - I like some of the sounds with it up and others with it down so it can get cumbersome to switch quickly. Not a flaw I guess, just a byproduct of the design. I'm on the fence about keeping this due to the switching and pickups, but it's the best playing strat I've ever run across.

love it

By Steven Prelosky

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I've been waiting to get this guitar, so I wanted one with the bells and whistles. I was having a hard time deciding between the color I got and the metllic sunburst, but I like natural wood, and wnet with this one.
The most important part is to just play.
I got this strat ~3 weeks ago. I love it. it sounds fgtreat and is very playable. The S-1 switch doesn't do too much for me, but it doesn't hurt anything etiher. The only issues were 1) - a small pinhead sized bubble in the finish on the neck, and 2) - pretty bad fret buzz from having the action set too low. The fret buzz is easy to fix, but the bubble on the neck is there forever.
I got the 5-8 days shipping, ordered the guitar on Friday late and it got here on the next Wedensday.

Comments about Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar used from MF and got an incredible deal on it. Although it didn't come with the case candy, that's not really my thing so I didn't mind at all. Really sturdy case though, with enough room for a strap, strings, a short cable and other little tidbits.

Anyways onto the actual guitar. Mine has the tungsten finish. At first I wasn't too keen on the somewhat shimmery silver color but now that I've owned it for about a half year it's really grown on me!
The neck feels amazing. It's a great shape that can accommodate pretty much any style of playing, and bending up 3rds has never been easier, even with the 11-guage strings I use.

I absolutely love the neck pickup on this baby! Nice and throaty, handles drive very well. The 4 position down (middle and humbucker i believe) is also really distinct. It's punchy and a little quacky too, perfect for funk. I thought I would have to switch out the humbucker but it's actually quite impressive. My band plays a lot of riff-loaded, drop-tuned metal and the bridge pickup cuts through perfectly! And the bypass switch is simply ingenious.. what a handy feature! Quite a lot of songs we play require me to transition from a soft mellow sound to thunderous distortion and now i don't have to stress about getting those knobs in proper position - just press the button and you're back exactly where you were. I do wish it was a little easier to reach but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
The S-1 switching is less impressive though... Sure it fattens up the sound but I feel like a lot of the tone gets lost. Maybe with more time I'll find some uses for it, but somehow I doubt that. Doesn't really bother me too much because these pickups rock!

Lastly, the hardware. The locking tuners live up to their name. I feel confident that at any point in time I can pick this girl up and she'll be in tune. And because of that one can actually use the whammy bar!! I kind of abuse it to be honest because outside of FR equipped guitars that's never been an option. The guitar would always badly detune. Now obviously the more you dive and whatnot the more the strings are bound to slip but this is significantly reduced by the tuners. Great job fender!

It's not cheap but the Fender Deluxe Strat is a top-notch, reliable, and beautiful sounding guitar. If you've been eyeing it then just do it. Buy the darn thing. You will not regret it! Even if it means eating ramen for the next 3 months. Totally worth it. Cheers!
