Like some reviewers this is the first time I've taken the time to review any product but I felt I wanted to express my opinion. Might help some one make a descision . I purchased 2 of these guitars 2 mo,s ago. Olympic white with rosewood fretboard SSS pickups and mystic red rosewood fretboard hss pickups. I'm an experienced player and have been playing clubs, churches etc. since I was a teenager and I'm now 59. I own giibsons and fenders play through marshall and fender amps so I know tone and quality products. Long story short both these new strats are real quality guitars both totally different in sound. The SSS strat is totally traditional strat mojo ,super easy to play ,raised the strings a little and that's all. Perfect ,can't put it down. The hss model is just as much fun but kickin in the humbucker really gives that extra kick needed on some songs. Both have a lot of pop and really spanky sound. Both stay in tune perfectly after stretching the strings. No plans to change out tuning keys. Kudos to musicians friend. Great service. I bought the strat american special and loved the guitar but didn't like the Texas special pickups. They are really weak compared to these fat 50s that really shine. Returned it no hassle. I would definitely buy this product again and will continue to do buissiness with musicians friend and have bought many products here over the yrs. buy one of these fine instruments and you will be totally satisfied. Great guitars. Real workhorses.

Best American standard strat in years

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Best American strat in years.. Well worth the money.. Get it... The new greenish color looks nice.. I just wanted a white strat..
Purchased this guitar about a week ago. Olympic white.. When it showed up to my house I gave it a quick setup and away we went. I guess the big difference maker for me were the fat 50's pups.. Very nice upgrade! Should've been on there all along. Plays just as you know it can. Very well.. It's an American strat....
Once again the pups are what does it for me... Very very nice vintage strat sound. I play through a slew of amps.. I prefer playing this through a twin reverb.. No pedals... Just clean with a hint of spring verb...
Very good purchase and not as expensive as a deluxe. But the pups make it sound better than the deluxe.
Maybe fender should do something like this to their deluxe models. Just sayin.. Blows the noiseless s1 crap away....
It a fender... It's very nice.... Clean and no blemishes.. The pups pole are staggerd quite a bit so a setup is needed.. But once dialed in.. It's very tone full. Round, full, almost woody tone.
Great value for the tones you are getting...

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

It's a Fender Stratocaster! Love at first sight and strum.
It's a Fender Stratocaster with Custom Shop Fat '50s Pickups being the only major change. Dark 3 Tone Sunburst. Rosewood fretboard. I give it a 10 because it's a classic guitar and everyone needs at least one Strat in their collection.
It's a Fender Stratocaster! Quality from the factory was perfect. Excellent finish, action, and really nice SKB case. The 3 tone sunburst was darker than I had expected, but it was more to my liking than a lighter sunburst -- but that's subjective. The Custom Shop Fat '50s deliver nice lows and shimmering highs. I can only compare it to my other Strat, a Texas Special I've had for 11 years. The Texas Specials have more midrange. These Fat '50s were a surprise -- totally different from what I'm used to, but I like them.
It's a Fender Stratocaster! It will last a lifetime. Some would say that it's too expensive, but it's iconic, Made In America, and plays and sounds great just plugged into an amp or with effects.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar. It's super light with a fast and lovely neck. It is superbly built and no matter what you do to the tremolo, it stays in tune. What I love most about this guitar is that it's meant for players rather than show offs. This you can tell because the neck is not coated in sticky gloss, the quality is in the electronics and the play-ability (such as staggered tuners). And they use custom shop pickups which sound AMAZING. I can play it for hours. Only cons is that while I understand single coil pickups are noisy, these seem especially so. I also wish the neck pickup worked better with high gain and overdrive/distortion. One surprising thing about this Strat is that the Tone knob adjusts tone for both middle and bridge. This is a mod that I usually do for every Strat I buy, but Fender beat me to it:) This is by far the best Stratocaster I've ever played because it has the player in mind, and there's something about buying a new guitar that makes it feel truly and wholly yours.

The guitar sounds great, and feels great. but i expected better craftsmanship from fender. the paint job had lines in it which i could see and feel, some glue appeared to leak out from one of the frets, and i contacted MC before hand to make sure it was the darker tone headstock with gray lettering which they confirmed it was, then of course it wasnt.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I just bought a MIM strat a month ago. I liked it, except for the terribe sharp edges on the frets. So, I read the reviews on this, and the rolled edges and fretwork caught my eye. This one is what the MIM should be IMHO. The action was high for me. I adjusted it, and I set up the tremelo to float. if I didn't want a tremelo that worked, I would stick with my telecasters. Unlike another reviewer, mine is staying in Tune. I am not Jeff Beck, and I don't use the Trem a lot. But after I gave my choice of strings a good stretching, this guitar stays in tune just fine. I expected a little more from the pickups, but I have no complaints. The funny thing is that I compare it to my Classic Vibe Strat to see how good it is. It's as good. The Squire CV line are amazing for the money. But I wanted better electronics so I went for this guitar knowing I would be getting better electronics. I expected to get a guitar that played nice, sounded nice and looked great. This one does. It's a step up from the MIM strat, but not by much. The frets don't bite me, that's nice. I am keeping my MIM too. I don't have a rave review to give, but I don't have any dissapointments with this guitar. The bottom Tone knob is sticky, really sticky. I don't know why, but its not a deal breaker. I really didn't know what I expected from the Custom Shop Fat 50's. But they are nice and clean, no noise. THis is probably a weak review. But if you want a guitar you don't have to "fix" before it's nice, buy one of these. it's every bit as nice as my Suire, and belive it or not, that's not a slam. This is just as nice as my USA 2000 Lonestar Strat too. I can't put one above the other. I was never in love with the Tesas Specials in the Lonestar, but the SD Humbuckers in it were really nice. I wanted an Olympic White, with the Rosewood fretboard, and I am not dissapointed. I changed out the Aged White knobs and pup covers to Parhment, and I like the look better. So, what am I saying here? Nice guitar that won't disappoint. and it should last the rest of my life. I don't plan on selling or "upgrading" it.It's good as is. Very nice American made Strat.Get one! Enjoy!

The Strat has what they call a floating bridge. I had to take the back off to tighten the springs so that bridge would not hardly move at all, because it would simply not stay in tune. Before I tightened the springs I spent 3 days just trying to keep it in tune. Now it plays nice, and stays in tune. If anyone else has that problem, this is the fix. Very happy now. Musicians Friend shipped it to me in 3 days. Great Job.!!!

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This guitar is amazing. I own a 2008 Amer. Standard also, but this one is miles ahead. First off, both the strats I own are Olympic White with rosewood fretboard. The neck and and rolled edges on the 2012 are easily superior. The 2008 is nice as well, but this one plays like an old broken in relic, so smooth! The fretboard is much better quality, at least to me. On the 2008 the dark tint started coming off after a few weeks of playing. The 2012's neck is not as dark, but it seems a lot more durable. Also, the body color is incredible, especially the white with aged white plastic parts (tone/volume knobs, pup covers, etc), it just looks like a masterpiece. This one has the 2 point bridge/trem, which seems much better and stays in tune well, unlike my 2008.

More importantly, the Pups in this sucker alone make this guitar far superior, (custom shop 50's!!!) go try one out!! it has incredible, I mean insane clean sounds, so clear and bright, but can be very warm and jazzy as well on the neck. and guess what? has a very classy growl as well with some dirt. tone bypass feature works very well with volume on 10

Guys, this is by far the best deal Fender has put out in a very long time, no Gibson I've played has ever been better than this, and this is actually affordable for most people. this baby can do anything. (The SKB case is also awesome) if i were to have one guitar, this is it.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is a very nice well built Fender Strat for a great price. I have always wanted a white Olympic Strat like Jimi's and this thing looks awesome in color.
No mint green pickguard, that is a plus and the aged plastic looks very nice and well done. It is like an Ivory creamy white very classy looking. The only problem I had at first was that the frets felt kinda rough and so I gave them a polish with 8000 grit emery cloth and now they feel smooth and creamy. Also the rosewood looked a bit dry so I conditioned that as well and put some Dunlop 10's on it and now it plays like a dream. Other than that it is a great guitar that will keep me happy for many years to come! I think that Fender has upped their quality recently. Plus it is made in the good ole USA. I play it through a Mesa Trans Atlantic and it totally gets that Fender clear bell tone and also some very nice distorted tones too without any nasty dissonent overtones...so I think the 50's pickups they put in this guitar was a very good choice. I checked under the "hood" and it is routed to also accept neck/bridge humbuckers if needed. I really like that option too, and is so easy to slap a new pickgaurd loaded with that configuration on to it. So it is also a very versatile and easily upgradeable instrument!! Bottom line is that it has a great neck and body that feel awesome to play and this is my 3rd strat all US made, and this is by far the best one of all.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

              Great build quality.

Beautiful piece of Ash for the body on the guitar I got, great flawless paint job on it.

I dig being able to see the wood grain through the paint so Sienna Sunburst on Ash it was.

This choice of wood also suits my desire for tighter, more focused bass response from the harder Ash than the less dense Alder.

Somehow , I find myself wanting the mid range to be a bit stronger.

Amazing PU's, the Fat 50's. Beautiful tone. Very articulate.

Mine's the Sienna Sunburst SSS with Rosewood fretboard.

I don't like my tone getting too jangly (which IMHO it tends to do with a maple fretboard).
I like it sounding clear, bright but still velvety-earthy and rich.

Now I live In India and had this shipped by MF to a friend who was coming down.

So it was shipped from somewhere to Nashville, went around on a flight via Frankfurt and ended up in Chennai, India.

The climatic changes obviously being huge.

Surprisingly, the set up wasn't affected a lot. The guitar stabilized after 4-5 days of my having it, adapting to the climate, If you will.

My only gripe (not with MF or Fender), while it IS the best guitar I've ever played, it's till not flawlessly set-up.

Some minor buzz when played without an amp which isn't a major issue since none of that buzz is audible when amplified.

I can't find a good enough luthier here to trust with this guitar and I'm not great at setting guitars up.

I removed the stock strings within a couple of days.
This guitar would definitely benefit from .10 gauge Blue Steel.

              Reservations:

              1. I was expecting the mid frequencies to be stronger. No issues, can always boost it some other way. Also, since I didn't have the luxury of trying out a few pieces before buying, I cannot complain about this.

I feel pieces of Ash wood are less consistent sonically than Alder, so.

              2. I've never had a C shaped neck. I've gotten used to it with this guitar and it's great but I sometimes still find it lacking that extra meat. Having learnt on a 40 year old acoustic with a chunky D shaped rosewood neck, I might enjoy an early 50's D shaped maple strat neck (like the Hot Rod ones) more or even a 50's les paul neck.

Having said that, this neck does work particularly well for me when playing Jazz-Funk and doing comping rhythm work and some other intricate rhythm work with envelope filters engaged.

              3. Purely cosmetic, this. Maybe this should've come with the white pearloid pickguard which, IMO, looks cooler than the plain white one on this.

Note: I have NEVER had any trouble bending even 2 tones up on the 9.5" radius fretboard.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I got a 2012 sunburst with the Rosewood fret-board. I got it soon after they came out, even with previous year models in stock and for less moola. Why? Tone.

The pickups and the rest of the electronics have some really great tone. The neck pickup is not too mushy and the bridge is not too thin. Using the fancy-dancy new tone knob in the 10 position adds a nice, not too thin bite to it. This guitar can bite through any mix I put together in my home project studio without effort. I even get choices.

Even more impressive to me was how well this one was put together. The Strat style of guitars have a little big of noise to them. The trem-springs in the back, the bridge and light-weight body all contributes to this noise. It's in no small way part of the Strat sound. It's important to have one that doesn't sound all rattley or whatever you want to call that unwanted residual noise. This one and the other 2012 I tried were both put together nice and solidly and did not suffer from an over abundance of residual noise. This was not the case for some of the other ones I tried.

Next up is the neck and the reason for waiting a year to write a review. The neck is still straight after over a year. That's an 11 month (and going) improvement over my previous cheaper strat model. The dual action truss rod adjustment system is 'da bomb'! This neck is true to begin with, but having this system on it just makes everything much easier to get that perfect feel.

No fret edge cuts or anything. Tuners all even feeling and function well. The body has a nice resonance to it, which makes having quieter hardware even more important.

I got everything I expected from it, and waiting until last year got me these great sounding pickups. Nice bonus. Not sure what could have been better.

Great guitar. It can handle any kinds of music. Just don't let ron ruggiero from philly to work on your guitar. Other wise, it will play very well.

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Every guitar is a little different, even if it comes from the same builders at the same factory. I had played some really nice 2012 Strats and at least one semi-dud. I loved the redesign and return to the original saddles and 50s pups. So, I had my fingers crossed when I mail-ordered a new one ... Oh, man. This guitar is a beauty -- gorgeous craftsmanship and super resonant. You can pluck a string, hold the guitar up by the neck, and feel the vibration down at body near the jack. The alder body is light and the sunburst is lustrous. The neck is luscious and smooth. The frets are perfectly polished. And the pickups are alive and full of character and tone. This is everything you could ever expect from a Strat. Wonderful!

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Although I have several strats, I wanted one in Olympic White and I wanted it with a Rosewood board. Those are hard to come by. When I saw this one and that it had an option of getting it with a Rosewood board, I shopped the web and bought it from MF. At the time I bought it Fender was having a promotion and I got it at a good price. It is great in fit and finish and plays great. My only complaint is that all of the the strats I have purchased come with 9's and only 3 springs in the tremolo. I wish they would provide at least one extra spring just in case the purchaser wants to install heavier strings, I had purchased some springs when setting up other strats so I had some on hand, I will be adding a 4th spring to better balance the tension of the heavier strings and should be set. I play mainly rhythm and the feel and sound of heavier strings works better for me.

The workmanship on this guitar is incredible, I would almost compare it with a custom shop strat that I owned previously. The neck is comfortable and a pleasure to play, also the fat 50's pickups sound great. I would also like to mention that Musicians Friend was great to deal with, I returned one because of the color, they shipped me the three color sunburst I wanted with no hassle.

I'm very happy with my 2012 American Standard. I was a bit leery ordering a guitar online without playing it first, but fortunately the condition of the guitar was excellent right out of the box and I have no complaints whatsoever. It plays great and sounds great and was just what I was hoping to receive for the money I paid. Overall, it's a sweet guitar!

Comments about Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I've owned allot of guitars: a Fender (foreign) made terrible sound and action, a Gibson Les Paul Style impersonator (Cort good sound and play but excessively heavy), an Epiphone (fat boy good sound but lousy action), an old Kay well used good playing (couldn't keep it tuned due to humidity), one or two nameless. I own: a RIFF (semi hollow body electric acoustic neck is permanent) a great playing guitar thats big bodied but stays in tune and has great action (marketed by JC Penny sued by Gibson copyright violation) the large body wears me out quickly, a 1984 Kramer (semi hollow body electric acoustic pre-amp, too tenor sounding bolt on neck) stays in tune with good action, an ESP LTD E-200 (heavy metal or etc) great playing guitar and stays in tune but too heavy for me. Glad I bought this guitar, with a neck injury that put an end to playing gigs I really needed a light well made and great sounding guitar. And the contour body is awesome! Played it recently for 3 hours straight with no complaint.
This Fender has satisfied my craving for the best sound options sweet or raunchy tones I've only heard and relished. Tried it jacked into my old Marshall amp, as well as the Fender Frontman 212 amp bought along with this sweet and light Stratocaster. With such a wide range of pickup selection, layback and let the guitar play itself.
Very high quality workmanship and electronic technology! The finger board is smooth as silk all the way up and down and the action is the best Ive experienced. The tone controls are very responsive.
Vertually replaces two or more of my guitars having a rich bandwidth and the light contour body is easy to handle.

If you every wanted a Strat but was on the fence. Go ahead buy this one the 2012 is a nice guitar it plays and sounds great. And great job Musician's Friend. I was worried It wouldnt be here for my Birthday Sunday with Memorial Day in there and all but ordered on Friday and received it Wed even with Express Shipping good job getting it out. Have nothing but good things to say about you guys. Thanks for being there....
Looks and plays great what more can I say. The Fat 50's are great upgrade.I ordered the Charcoal Frost and rosewood looks nice with the rosewood.
Nice job. Everything was perfect with one little exception one of the tone control nobs stick a little no big deal.
Cheap with other standard guitars made in USA almost 3 times as much. They could charge a couple hundred more and it would be worth it.
