Fender

The spirit of the '60s.

The classic Fender American Vintage '62 Stratocaster Electric Guitar updates the '57 Strat with a fresh look and faster action. It has all the vintage features of the '57 (alder body, maple neck, vintage pickups), plus a rosewood fretboard and a slimmer, quicker neck shape that allowed surf-era rockers to push the envelope. The Fender American Vintage '62 Strat comes with the original tremolo with ashtray cover and authentic 3-way switching, but includes the parts to upgrade to 5-way.

Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.

Features

  • Alder body
  • Maple neck
  • Rosewood fingerboard
  • American Vintage pickups
  • 3-way switching (retrofit parts for 5-way included)
  • Original synchronized tremolo (ashtray cover included)

You've got to get your hands on this sweetheart! Call or click and own the Strat of your dreams!

I found my perfect guitar (with a bit of a tweak!)

Features:

Standard features are great, very little tinkering needed. The first Strat I've ever owned that stays in tune even with much abuse of the whammy bar. The neck is just a dream to play on, the best neck I've ever played on to be fair, very slick indeed. I've never used the ashtray, doesn't add to the look with it on, doesn't affect anything to do with the playability with it off.

Quality:

Mines a 96, looks like new. It's a MIA, and I imagine that there are some lemons out there, but you'd be hard pushed to find one in this part of the family tree.

Value:

I wish it could be a 10, and really it should be. But, think very carefully before you buy any quality instrument, if it's a "I gotta have it" because you're a serious muso then all well and good. If you've saved your hard earnt pennies, then maybe it's not what you should be thinking of. Plenty of MIA Strats out there, at a cheaper price too.  That's the sensible lecture on how to spend your cash out of the way! The truth is just a beautiful piece, and you should by one now, even if your kids have to starve! (no not really, but you get the gist of it right?)

Overall:

It's has that elusive Strat sound straight out of the case, but it's really easy to tweak.  Replace the stock electrics with an RS vintage kit with paper/oil caps and you'll  find you it quietens down nicely. Change the stock pups, which are good at the neck and middle but a bit weedy at the bridge, and you'll do well. Bareknuckle 63 vaneer boards at the bridge and the middle with a Fender Eric Johnson custome shop at the bridge and you have the ultimate blues machine. Use all of the 5 ways in the switch and it gets even better. But like anything, all this just opinion. Straight out of the case it still kicks the bejesus out of most gats out there.

After spending 6 months to find the perfect Strat for me,this dream appeared. The sound is "amazing" also due to the finish. The neck is perfect(for me anyway). For me a thing of beauty. This is a professional instrument.Only reservation a have is that the price of this instrument, here in Europe is way above the American price.I had to pay 2300 dollars for this baby here in Belgium, hence the 4 star rating on value.

I have owned the "Burst" colored one for 3yrs now and by far it is my favorite out of all the guitars I own. I put the 5 way switch on mine because I like the in/out of phase pickup combonations. The pickups are amazing in this thing, I can best describe them as having a raw and kind of gritty classic sound. The bridge pickup cuts extremely well through a band mix in more Rock/Hard Rock situations, and the second and neck position pickups go from soft and sweet to fat and thick with a slight roll of the tone for big bending Blues licks. In all this guitar was worth every penny I paid for it and will be one I keep forever.

I've had this guitar in Olympic white for 8 years now. I had a friend who had an original '62 which I had played in 1971 and I never forgot it. This guitar gets played out regularly at gigs and it sounds so sweet! I play blues and classic rock. I play it through a solid state Carvin and a Carvin tube head with a 4x12 and it does whatever I want. Put it through my '70's Vibro Champ, heaven! I'm 57, if you are looking for that classic Fender sound of the 60's, this is it. This is not a shredder guitar, it's not a Gibson. You want a Les Paul, SG sound, then buy one.  The bridge came set a little high but I only lowered it slightly as I am a string bender so I like it set  higher. The only thing I don't like is that you have to take the whole neck off to adjust it. I've only had this done twice, so find a good tech. The pickups it came with are great.  I would love to have these on my other Strats. With all due respect, I don't think a lot of you guys know what a classic is. True tone comes from your touch. I always get compliments on both the look and sound of this axe. I would surely miss this guitar if I lost it.

I got this Guitar in 1983 new.  I've played the hell out of it and wore the paint off of it!  It need a bit of tender loving care now so I'm going to fix it up with a new bridge, mine is pretty rusty!  Will have it set up again also.  The down fall on the guitar is the pickups and the 3 way switch.  I droped in a complete pickup/pickguard replacement,(single coil, single coil, humbucker which is single coil size) and lined the cavity with copper foil.  It plays well and I use it for country and classic rock.  Oh, I gave it a 5 on value cause in 1983 I got it new with case for 800 bucks.  I would not pay what fender wants for it now.....just to many great guitars for that price range.  Great guitar if you can pick up a good used one.
