The finish is excellent.  Came completely setup.  The only thing I can fault are the inlays on the finger board, they are painted on.

Versatile and affordable!!

Features:

I just picked up the Blacktop Strat in Sonic Blue w/ rosewood with some Christmas cash.  I thought it would bring a nice tonal variety to my collection of single coil and H/S/S strats...This thing will do Tele to Les Paul in under a second! Running it through my '08 Fender Blues Deluxe amp, the Full neck pickup is pure twin-bucker magic--big, beefy, bluesy and thick.. Dropping down to the second position (between the neck and middle) is pure vintage strat--crystal clear and bell like, very SRV/Knopfler.. by adding distortion and rolling up the tone knob to about halfway in the first 2 positions you can also dial up a beautiful Santana-esque lead tone... The middle position (both humbuckers) provides a nice bright jangle with gobs of sustain, perfect for open chord voicings or stinging leads, and the final hum cancelling position is almost Tele-like, with a defined twang that really nails the chicken-pickin' sound.  Blues, rock, jazz, funk, fusion, metal, country, pop... whatever style of music you play, this guitar has the vocabulary for it.  And at this price your wallet will be happy as well!

A quick note to all you modders: If you're like me and you want to swap out those big ugly skirted amp knobs, be aware that STRAT KNOBS WILL NOT FIT!!!  I made this mistake and found out when I got the guitar home.  You will need a knob that attatches with a hex!  I would up putting knurled Telecaster knobs on my blacktop and they look great.  I'd also reccommend checking out Q-Parts custom knobs if youre looking for a more stylish alternative too!

Quality:

Solid construction.. Neck sits tight in the pocket, hardware was firmly affixed, no loose knobs, tuners, or bridge saddles.

Value:

Running the gamut of versatile tones at an affordable price... definitley worth the money

LOVE the tone of the humbucker..More versatile than traditional strat pickups..They don't have the quack... The finished frets and bridge r rough..u will need to file some edges.. But it plays incredible.. Very tunable... Of course u want it set up..ALWAYS!

Fender has outdone themselves

Features:

I give this one a fantastic because the two humbuckers sound incredibly strat-like, and it's like playing a Stratocaster with more power coming out of it. It doesn't change the sound; the strat still sounds like the Strat, only with more authority.

The fit and finish of this guitar is incredible. I thought I was playing an American when I picked it up in the store. I looked on the back and it said Mexico. I thought, hey this must be the Blacktop model.

Strings bended easily, action was wonderful. The neck felt smooth and glossy - I'll say it again, I thought it was a USA model.

I am thoroughly impressed.

Quality:

Build quality is fantastic. No flaws that I could see.

Value:

For the same price as a standard Strat, you get a much better deal. I would highly recommend the Blacktop Strat.

Overall:

I look forward to buying one soon. I played with it for an hour or so in the store and it felt like my own guitar. I am getting married soon so I could not buy it at this moment, but I may end up selling one of my other babies to buy one. It seems so versatile and I could see myself bringing it to any situation and making it my main guitar because I love Strats but I want the power of a humbucker guitar. Perfect match made in heaven!!
