I have never written a bad review before, so this is new territory for me, but here goes. I played with a guy that had one of these. He loved the guitar, and I did too. Played it numerous times, and it played like a well built/properly set up guitar should. I ordered one in gorgeous Olympic white, and when it arrived immediately put a tortoise shell pickguard and trem cover on it. It really is a stunning looking guitar. Unfortunately, that's where the love affair ended. This guitar never played good. I couldn't get it adjusted to eliminate what was horrible fret buzz. The truss rod didn't seem to work correctly to reduce neck bow, and the only way to get rid of fret buzz was to raise the action so high it was unplayable. Decided I'd let a professional see if he could get the buzz out of it. Two weeks and more money than I wanted to spend I got it back, and it was no better than when I took it in. I was told that fret buzz on this model Strat is more common than not, and it would likely never play right without extensive work. It is now for sale and I know I am going to take a beating on this one. I have several other Fender guitars, MIM's American Standards, etc.... and love them all. This one...... not so much.

Comments about Fender Classic Series '70s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I was hesitant to buy this Strat based on the reviews and the comments on fret buzz, issues with the frets and the radius of the neck. I decided to give it a try and after some slight adjustments to the tension on the springs it plays incredible. The neck is awesome - the radius is not a problem at all. It has a great one piece Ash body and a nice chunky neck. I like the tones I can get out of it. True the tuners could be better and the pickups may not be the best but these are easily overlooked. The fit and finish on this Mexico made model is outstanding. As good if not better than a USA made. I highly recommend incorporating the Carl Verheyen technique of increasing the spring tension on the trem system with more tension on the bass side strings. He has a video on youtube about this and after doing this it stays in tune WAY better and helps keep a balance to the strings. I think it also improved issues with buzzing as it has zero frett buzz up and down the neck. And i received my order fast, guitar in pristine condition - Thank you Musician's Friend!

Had two brought in, one after the other. Both times the store could not get the buzz out. Mainly lower strings from about the 3rd fret up. Very disappointing and sounds like a common problem. Makes you wonder what is up with quality control at Fender. I am going to try an American Special with jumbo frets. Hope that "made in USA" does the trick.

This is my favorite instrument that I own. The 70's headstock turns heads. You cannot go wrong with this guitar. I bought a tweed reissue JR, and man....you can sound like any guitarist in the world with that set up. Stop looking and buy this guitar, you wont regret it!

Comments about Fender Classic Series '70s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this based on a 70s strat that I have always wanted. Not more than a year into having it the frets above 12 started to buzz a bit and eventually have just worn down. I have several other guitars that I have been playing for years that still have not needed any kind of fret work. Fender just used cheap frets on these. Not the place to skimp. A year is waaaay to soon to start needing a fret job. I have not been able to really play it for a couple years now. It just hangs on the wall and looks nice. Just bite the bullet and buy a more expensive version like an Yngwie strat or something like that as now I have to spend another 350-400 which almost puts me at the price of more expensive models. I also replaced the pickups with the hotter ones as I play more heavy style rock stuff. now I will be at the price of the more expensive models anyway. BIG DISSAPOINTMENT!!

I have two of these guitars both Olympic white with maple. The first one i bought second hand. When I took it to my tech, he found the neck pocket was not deep enough to get the strings high enought to not make it buzz. To correct this the bridge has to be shimmed way up. Also you can see dents under the paint that were filled and painted over. My second one arrived yesterday brand new. great playing and quality except for a pickguard screw was missing from the factory. The hole was stripped out and instead of being fixed was just sent out through QC without a screw and a huge hole. I love these guitars but the price is just two high for the flaws and mistakes that leave the factory.

sounds great no matter what style you play, I play overdriven into a Fender Blues Junior and blues and fuzz tones sound amazing
Its a great guitar, just your typical high end strat.
built great, I expect it to last a long time, its held up for a year so far with no trouble
Not a bad price for a great guitar, buy new pickups for it, and its practically the same as the twice the price '70s strat, spec for spec.

              FYI

Comments about Fender Classic Series '70s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I have the natural with the maple neck. I hear that all the necks are made in Corona and shipped to Escondido. I believed it after playing it. In the age of cnc machines, does it really make a difference where the body was made? One more thought. The usa pickups of the 70's were noisy too. Just swap'em out and you will have a quality instrument at a reasonable price. I play this through an old Carvin x-60 tube half stack. It's the sweetest sounding rig I ever owned and I've had a lot of them (marshall, music man, traynor, fender, etc) Don't believe me? go to the store and play one. You can thank me later.

Great guitar with a simple upgrade

              By Stratoblaster

              from Nashville

Comments about Fender Classic Series '70s Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is one very good looking great playing guitar. Its nitro coat is beautiful and the details as far as I am concerned, are well done, if not perfectly period specific. There are a lot of comments here complaining about the pickups and/or the guitars' tone. Simple solution: take the stock originals out and put some Fender Custom Shop Noiseless or Hot Noiseless pickups in their place like I did. End of problem. That will give this guitar tone to rival the two and three thousand dollar Strats! The one I like best is the clear Ash finish with white trim and white pickguard.
