If I had to sum my review up in two words I would say "Im impressed". I have been playing primarily LP's for the past 20+ years and while Ive always liked the way strat's feel I never found one with the "right" tone for my style. That was until I played a friend's American lonestar Stratocaster. That guitar got me looking to buy a previously owned or NOS MIA lonestar until I came upon this MIM twin. I really wanted to get my hands on one before buying, but none of my local stores had any stocked. I did get my hands on its sister guitar, the MIM roadhouse strat, and the quality and feel seemed very good for the 10 or 15 minutes I had hands on it. Thanks to the great reviews for this guitar here on MF and my very good previous experiences with MF, I decided to order this MIM lonestar. Not only is this the first fender electric Ive owned in a very long time, it's the first time Ive ever purchased a guitar without actually handling/playing it first, and again, Im impressed. Since I put a lot of value on many of the reviews here before I bought, I thought it appropriate to give my own detailed review in hopes it would help someone else in their decision, so here it is.

Firstly, I placed my order on Thursday and the guitar arrived on Saturday, was packed very well, the Fender packing was packed inside another box that was well packed, the outer box had some wear but the inner Fender packaging was pristine. Also, not sure if this applies to all, but based on the description I did not expect this guitar to come with a gig bag, but I was happily surprised when I pulled the guitar out and it WAS in a Fender gig bag, nothing fancy, typical fender bag, but better quality than many gig bags Ive had in the past. I would still hardshell this when it leaves the house as gig bags and travel oddly don't mix well for me.

The guitar itself was in perfect condition out of the box, no dents or scratches or other indications of mis-handling. The guitar came with the proper truss rod and saddle tools along with a generic fender manual and trem arm. The 3-tone sunburst is very nice to look at and while I planned on throwing on a 4ply white pickguard, the brown tort is kinda growing on me, looks very vintage fender.

This guitar has some heft to it which I like, Im used to slinging a 12lb Gibson LP custom and while its not near as heavy, this strat has the feel of a substantial guitar while providing a nice break from the usual 12 pounds on my shoulder or knee. The neck was arrow straight, actually a little too straight, and did require a little dialing in. Besides the neck there were a couple minor setup tweaks to get things set to my liking, typical for any guitar Ive ever owned. The satin finish on the neck is lovely, feels fast and doesn't get sticky with sweaty hands. All the screws, nuts, bolts, washers etc were perfectly tight, nothing coming loose and nothing over tightened or stripped out. The tint on the neck was not orange as I had read in other reviews, at least not on mine, in fact, ive scoured this guitar looking for flaws and I cannot find but two tiny spots on the back of the neck that are a tad darker than the rest. I am extremely happy with the overall fit and finish on this guitar, looks and feels like a much more expensive example. The fret job on this guitar is the best ive seen on any import I own and better than a couple of my newer model Gibson standard's/studio's. No sharp ends, nicely rounded, and polished to mirrors make this a very fast and finger friendly board. Caps, pots and switch could likely use an upgrade, the cut on the tone's don't dial out as smooth as Id like but it's a minor complaint in the larger view. I ratcheted down my trem since I don't use a bar on this guitar and Ive had no major issues with this guitar staying in tune for the couple hours im on it.

As for the Texas specials and the PG+ pickups, which to be honest were the primary reason I chose this model, they are everything I remembered from my buddy's MIA lonestar. The texas special's have a sound all their own, and they are tasty. They have beautiful crystal clean cleans when the volume is rolled back a tad, and a very sweet light crunch when cranked to 11, hardly any hum even in the first or third positions and without any noise suppression mod. The PG+ humbucker is full on ZZtop with a very bright high end. The HSS setup with these pickups are what really set this strat apart from others Ive played and made it a perfect tonal addition amongst my various Les Paul setups.

Overall Id give this guitar very high marks, from build quality to feel to sound, it is a very nice guitar and a great deal at this price point. Im happy to have this Fender in my arsenal and it has changed my opinion of MIM strats for the better.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Lonestar Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is only my second guitar, and my first electic.

I was amazed to find that this guitar was 99% in tune straight out of the box according to my yamaha digital tuner. The low E string needed less than an 1/8 turn tweak.

Action seems perfect. More experienced musicians may feel that it needs a bit more tweaking to suit them, but that's an individual thing. I may adjust it later once I have a better idea what I prefer, but mine was perfectly playable straight out of the box.

Build, fit and finish, and tolerances are all impeccable. I'm not a guitar expert yet, but I've been an engineer in various manufacturing environments for around 20 years and I know quality manufacturing when I see it. I've briefly handled a few made in the USA Strat's and was unable to see a major difference. I'd say this guitar is 95% as good for >50% the price. Can't beat the value.

No string buzz, no sharp fret edges, no quirks in the electronics, no flaws in the finish at all.

I've played this thing A LOT since I got it. We're talking six hours a day at the LEAST for almost two months, and it's needed retuned only once.

Very versatile guitar. Tweaking the various pickup and tone configurations on the guitar alone can get you a wide range of sounds from chicken pickin' country to a prettty typical Strat "quack" sound to a Hendrix/SRV sound to a heavy ZZ Top hard rock type of sound sound.

Really impressed. I can't put it down!

what an axe,wow is all there is to say. 10 for wow factor, playability, sound, tone, looks ect..
the complaint would be where the neck bolts to the body is not completely flush like it is on the
american fenders. But the guitar is so awesome to play and gives you total enjoyment that a guitar
should, that complaint really needs to be overlooked. So I will just enjoy this fine axe.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Lonestar Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is a follow up review, like I said I've had it a few years now and I'm very happy (and so is my band)... still very satisfied with what I got for the money!
The HSS setup is great for the "gigging musician"... lots of options right at your finger tips.. the single coils clean up really well when you roll the volume back and the Pearly Gates really sings!
When compared to other guitars in this price range, I think the quality is very good with this axe. I gig almost every weekend with it and have no complaints (I've had it a few years now)... some of our gigs are in "dives" so I wouldn't want to take a guitar that costs a lot in there anyway!
Not going to give anything a 10 but it is a great value.

I bought this guitar about three years ago. I have been a Fender man for life, I also play an older strat (maybe 1995 or so) and Tele.the Texas Specials are the bomb for everything Stevie Ray to Vince Gill. If you like crystal clear tones there is not a better double coil pickup out there. The clean is unreal.the guitar itself is pretty good. I had a lot of trouble keeping it in tune. I had to take it back several times till it was adjusted right. I bought it right before the price increase so I saved some money. Overall, its a really good guitar for the money, but the pickups are what makes the guitar.

I have owned and played this guitar for 5 years and it is my main axe. I use it for everything from playing slipknot to hillsong united. This guitar will handle any genre of music and the play-ablilty is out of this world. This strat has never let me down and it is right up there with the American-made strats. My favorite thing about this guitar is the pearly gates pickup in the bridge, it will blow your mind!

Comments about Fender Deluxe Lonestar Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

After playing only acoustics for several years, my Fender Deluxe Lonestar Strat was my first electric guitar, bought after a full year of researching/testing the full spectrum of electric guitars. From the first day I played her until now, I've never fallen out of love with this fantastic Strat. The excellent pickup combination is capable of producing a wide variety of tones, from beautifully classic sparkling cleans to gritty and growling crunch. She'll scream and break up if you push her but she'll also sing out sweet and clear if you'd rather, and look great while doing it. I was looking for versatility in my first electric axe but I got so much more. Though she's no longer my only solid-body electric, she's definitely still one of the best. I highly recommend this guitar.

Fell completely in love with the looks on the black one before I even tried it(like so often with guitars pictures don't do this one justice) but was skeptical on it's playability since it was a mexi(ignorant prejudice) but as soon as I tried it out there was no turning back.Played it through a Fender Hot Rod III and many more amps at the store and the guitar just sang to me. Love the neck pickup position. You get all those trebly bell sounds yet still sounding so full. The Pearly Gates is a great addition too, really nice to have that option when you wanna drop d e.g. and pull out some heavy riffs. My Les Paul has been in it's case ever since I got the LoneStar.Action was perfect from the factory, I put 10-46 strings in it though, and got it set up for that. I don't know if I just got really lucky but my copy is absolutely flawless. Keeps tune really well(I don't use the tremolo, can't comment on that). Only thing I'm gonna change is get a bone nut.600 bucks is a steal for this guitar! If every copy is as good as mine this is a no brainer. Very versatile guitar, ready to take anything you throw at it!I can't help but give it all 5's!

Traded my American Special tele for this Lonestar. I haven't looked back since. Every sound imaginable. Great tone trhough my Carvin Belair. I use a Boss GT-3 processor live and my sound has never been better. Last night I decided to just plug n play straight into my amp. My Lonestar strat sounded fantastik and didn't go out of tune all night. I have mine set up with ernieball 10's. Don't be fooled by the MIM tag. Blows away the american special and the highway one. Again, best trade I ever made.
