OVERVIEW

Extra-scorching Strat sound and style.

Fender's Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster tears the place down with extra-scorching Strat sound and style. Its three Texas Special single-coil pickups are wired for supercharged tonal versatility, with a special V6 rotary switch (disguised as the middle tone knob) that delivers six distinct onboard preamp tone settings from wiry single-coil to searing lead. The S-1 switch built into the volume knob bypasses the preamp completely for pure Strat tone.

Other features include a tinted maple neck with "modern C" profile and large '70s-style headstock, 9.5"-radius maple or rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets, five-way pickup switch, four-ply aged white pearloid pickguard, three aged white control knobs (master volume/S-1, V6, master tone), and vintage-style synchronized tremolo bridge.

Includes gig bag.

I own 4 strats of all kinds , I have to say this one sounds and plays better than all of them, including my American strat, playing thru Line 6 equipment I don't think you could get a better sound for recording, I play a gig the other night using my Marshall and with the pre amp on I got amazing sounds playing SRV and Clapton music. This guitar was set up perfect for me right out of the box I had to do nothing but plug it in. I love fender products and this one gets an A+ 5 * from me. If you had second thoughts about buying this fender then don't give it another , you won't be disappointed . Don't let Mexico fool you !!!

This is the first Strat I ever ever used with a high quality tube amp. The range of tones I could get out of it was fantastic. Overall, I would have given it a 4 because lately, I prefer the extra bite you can get out of a Tele. The on board boost was great. The pickups were great. I did return it though because the pickup selector kept shorting out on me. That is what knocked it down to a 3. If I was totally in love with it, I would have re soldered the pickup selector. I returned it in exchange for a Baja Tele. If the electronics on the Tele need work, I will probably fix them myself. The instrument work on the Mexican Fenders is good and I can do any electrical mod I need to do, Fender makes a good product and I do not mind the extra price for the name... they invented solid bodies...

Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I just got this today so I thought I'd give everyone an idea about this guitar.

First off, it's MIM, which isn't a bad thing. It's got 22 frets instead of the normal 21 that most MIM's come with. The large 70's headstock is nice. The finish is gloss polyester, including the back of the nicely figured lightly tinted neck. The neck has Fender's "Modern C" profile with a 9.5" fretboard radius. Not quite a vintage baseball bat and not quite an Ibanez Wizard neck, but somewhere in between. Regardless, it's comfortable enough for me. Can't figure out what a skunk stripe is doing on the back of a rosewood fretboard though.

Texas Special p/u's and an onboard preamp. Yes, a Strat that takes a 9v battery! The preamp has six presets that are selected with the middle knob, formerly the tone knob for the neck and middle p/u. Now the rear tone knob acts as a master tone (and in case you're wondering, yes it does work on the bridge p/u). The preamp is engaged and disengaged by a push/push S-1 switch in the center of the volume knob. I don't think it's true bypass though, because there seems to be some tone loss when the preamp is switched off. The preamp takes you from "wiry" to "thick" tones, basically a boost for selected frequencies depending on which setting you choose. So naturally there is a significant loss of volume when switching the preamp off with the S-1 switch.

The Texas Special p/u's are nice. They're Custom Shop designed and normally retail for around two hundred a set, so there's added value in this guitar already. They're overwound and more midrangy than your average vintage sounding Strat p/u's. For some folks this might not be a good thing. I had to play around with my amp settings (a Fender Mustang III V2 amp)to get the sound I wanted, but eventually I got there.

The tuning machines are standard Fender diecast sealed tuners. They work fine. The Bridge is the "vintage style" trem, not everyone's favorite but I never use a trem so it really doesn't matter to me. The trem block seems solid and beefy, something that Fender seems to have been upgrading steadily over the past several years on all of their MIM's.

I got the 3 tone sunburst finish with rosewood fretboard. With the 3 ply white pearloid pickguard and aged white plastic parts it's a real looker. It definitely looks like it would be right at home in a real roadhouse.

In conclusion, for what they're charging for this guitar (only a hundred more than the MIM Standard) you're getting a boatload of added features that, if taken separately would probably push this guitar up to the American Std. level or beyond, it's a pretty sweet deal. Again, if you're a Strat purist who is chasing that vintage tone then this is probably not the one for you. But then again if you're a true Strat purist you're probably not going to buy MIM anyway.

All in all, an extremely versatile Strat.

Oh yeah, even though they don't mention it in the specs, it does come with the Fender Deluxe Padded Gig Bag.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

    Neck: Amazing
    Body: Comfortable
Color: Vintage white is more yellow than vintage white
V6 rotary switch: OK but not great/sounds better off
    S-1 switch: Thank You
    Tremolo bridge: Perfect / Effortless
Pickups: Great, clean, smooth, chimes, depth

I love this guitar. Sounds better than some of the more expensive USA strats. The neck is lushes and well made. The vintage white is more yellow than I had hoped but not a big deal. The V6 rotary switch needs to either be improved or removed in my opinion. Something about the V6 feels cheap. Over all I say buy this guitar.

Not a Fender Fan but Nice Guitar

Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I ordered the sunburst and it was right at 2 months before this thing shipped, and it only shipped then (I believe) because I complained Fender had them in stock and available on their website while MF still had mine on backorder. That, and the cheap overall finish of my new Blues Jr. III, explain the headline.

That said, this, is a nicely crafted, well finished, competently set up guitar, as good as any and better than many in the price range. If this is an accurate representation of everything coming out of the Mexico factory, then MIM is nothing to look down on. The accompanying bag is also decently made and a true bonus because, as just stated, this guitar represents good value on its own.

Be advised, this a 22 fret, narrow neck Strat. I wanted just that, you may not. I took the Texas Heats because they are the only 3-single pups option. As feared, they push the guitar away from the classic strat sound towards just another guitar sound, down the road I may try Noiseless Vintage or even just the cheapie singles or something boutique, who knows. At least I have the correct platform.

I am not a big fan of guitar dials and switches, my experience being that they fail in their claims to make one guitar several different guitars. I find coil splitters (which, in fact, do not 'split' but simply dial back the pickup's power)especially useless. That said, the combination of switches and dials on this guitar give you a range of more realistic tonal options (that's important as 'artificial' sounds are worthless) which, while less grand than advertised, is a plus if this guitar is on your short list.

Self examine your needs and desires, do your research. If this ends up on your shortlist and you're OK with the Texas Heats, buy it.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I couldn't find an edit tool so:

      1. Texas Specials, not Heats, don't know where my head was.

      2. The switches, in combination with the preamp, do in fact give this guitar some true versatility. I already said that. What may not be clear to a novice purchaser is that this of value because you can change up your sound (within reason) without a) changing your amp sound, b) immediately getting into pedals, or c) immediately buying second, third, and fourth guitars. Once you have hardware options like those just listed, on board versatility means little. My point was and remains this: While many switch laden guitars make big promises, this is the only one I have that actually delivers some truly useable sound diversity. Again, not as grand as advertised but enough to be commended.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I will keep this brief: Buy it! If you are in the market for a Strat, look no further. I own U.S. Made Gibsons and Fenders...and appreciate the workmanship and reliability they provide. In fact, I usually wouldn't consider a MIM (Made in Mexico) instrument...until now. The Deluxe Roadhouse is a dream to play and is as fun as heck. The on board electronics are super cool and contribute to a veritable plethora of sound options. The fit and finish was that of what you'd expect from a US made axe. I really think this is a model/year that is going to be referenced years from now...it is that good. If you were to give this to me blind, I would assume you handed me a $1500 American Fender...do yourself a favor and pick one up; doubt they will last long. Did I mention the Sonic Blue is sexy as well? Do it!

Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Basically this guitar is great, love the active electronics and pickups. I can truly get any sound out of this guitar, makes playing any other guitar seem like a waste of time. With the mid boost you can get very convincing humbucker tones while maintaining a great single coil sound when you want it.

I can't say enough good things about the neck, it is simply perfect in every way, fret work is flawless, so smooth and easy to play. Very impressed with the workmanship.

Now for a little gripe, that should never have happened on the instrument. The jack plate was placed off center and actually screwed down. How silly, as perfect (in every other way) this instrument is they actually screwed the jack plate down off center to where you could see the routing hole underneath on the edge of 1 side of the jack plate. How stupid is that. Basically you make a flawless instrument then place 1 screw incorrectly and let it leave the factory? It's an easy fix and no reason to write the instrument off but it is a stupid mistake, but not a mistake at all, it was signed off on (I have the little card) by a quality inspector and this wasn't fixed. A shame you'd blemish (even slightly) such a great guitar by be too lazy just to slide the jack plate over a bit and tighten the screw down. Oh well, I guess Fender likes these little problems being pointed out by prospective buyers.

Ok, back to reality, aside from a tiny (easily fixable) problem with the jack plate, this guitar is absolutely flawless and well worth the price, just as good as American Strats I've played and that makes it a huge bang for the buck.

Have owned Fenders since the Surf music days. I was a little leary about anything that had a battery involved such as this new tone dial BUT this is too much fun not to have one in your collection. The workmanship is great, set up out of the box was right on!

If I didn't know where it was made I would swear it was just like the good old days. Just wish I could still play like the old days.
          Getting old sucks!

Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

This is the best Strat ever! The built in preamp allows more gain than a standard Strat without losing any Strat tone. Even at the highest gain preamp setting it still has all the attack and crisp tone you expect from a Strat, but with more dynamics and response to pick attack. I can play so lightly that the pick is barely touching the strings, but it still comes out full and sweet. And the more I dig in, the more it squeals. On top of all that the fit and finish are as good as any American Strat. It has the best playing neck I've ever felt. I like it even more than an American neck. It's got 22 frets like a USA Strat, and the Sonic Blue color with the pearl pickguard and aged plastic parts look super cool.
And it comes with a really nice deluxe Fender bag. It's the best guitar I have ever owned at any price, and has rendered all my other Srats OBSOLETE. I couldn't be happier!

Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

The 4 stars really should be 3 1/2...but there is no 3 1/2, and it doesn't deserve a 3 (if that makes sence).
The 3 1/2 would be, because I feel there has been too much hype on this guitar and pickup's; I'm just not getting when compared to a Standard Strat that is a hundred bones cheaper.

Also, one thing that is not written in the product description on this site, nor anywhere in the packaging is; the pre-amp 9volt battery is activated by plugging the guitar chord into the jack NOT by activating/deactivating the "bypass switch" built into the volume knob. So if you tend to leave your guitar plugged in when you set it down (like me) you will run through expensive batteries.
I learned of this on Fender's own Forums.

Otherwise; there's no doubt this thing is gorgeous (mine's Aged White), and the feel is fantastic as is all 9.5 radius maple fretboard's are to me.
The Texas Specials don't have as much 'meat' to them as I hoped...but do the job. And the six settings definitely have distinctive tonal differences, but I have found (my play style and preference) I would be happy with the three highest tones...the other three tend to sound a little muddy to me through a tube amp.

I am not disappointed that I bought this axe, but not super excited either. To me; just the awesome paint job, 70's headstock, and pick gaurd is worth the extra coin over a Standard...not overly impressed with the pickup "upgrade" to Texas Specials.

I WOULD recommend this axe to anyone who wants to add 'variety' to an existing collection, but if you're buying your first guitar (or upgrading from a cheapy no-name), save the hundred and grab a MIM Standard Strat.

ALways had Fender products. Wanted to try this one out and the price was great. Very happy with it. The amount of sounds this can generate is unreal. From hard to soft it purrs. Musician's Friend has been my friend for many years and the gear heads never steer you wrong.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

Like I said this is for sure the best cost benefit on Fender's line , you'll get a thousand money guitar sound. This guitar is very well made, very good feel , the neck is much like a american made Fender (I had one american standard wich I sold to stay with this one) . First of all it's 22 frets, very rare for a mexican guitar, 70's headstock wich I didn't like at first but I got use to it and now I prefer over the small one, it seems to ressonate a little bit more. The pickups are the best , Texas Specials ! I love the sound of it, they are hot warm , well balanced , good response, nice amount of gain and sparkle when it has to be. And of course has that twang that a good strat need. The S-1 switch and the V-6 Tone is a plus, there is not a bad sound from it. One really nice thing you all should try is to turn the preamp and plug the guitar directly on the soundboard, it will sound better than any other guitar that you do it. NIce sound indeed. I had over 12 guitars , Gibsons , Fenders, PRS, but this guitar is a very pleasent surprise, the price is right , and everything else is as well as you expect from a Fender. I have two amps an Orange Rockerverb 50 and a Hiwatt Hi-Gain 100, and I play calssic rock and blues. My pedalboard Dunlop JH-1 wah, MXR Dynacomp, Fulltone OCD, Boss BD-2, Blackstar HT modulation and MXR Carbon Copy.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I bought the CAR model. Out of the box it needed a good setup. A couple of the slots in the nut were cut too deep and we had the fill them. And I also decked the trem. Now it plays well.

The electronics are interesting. I think Fender wanted a varitone like Gibson. To me that's what the V6 switch is all about. I keep wanting to put a chicken head knob on that pot/switch.

Also after a couple of weeks playing I seem to have settled on where the V6 switch stays. And switch the S1.

And it takes some getting used to since the tone knob isn't.

I have 23 other guitars and 45 years of experience, and I finally decided to try this Strat. I have previously returned a Mex strat because of poor build quality, so I was skeptical, but this guitar is quality. The electronics are very functional and musical, though I have not yet experienced a single coil guitar that has the output of humbuckers. The S-1 switch is easy to use in performance.

Wow! I am so impressed with this guitar! The playability is like butter. My other electric is a 2010 American Standard Tele and, believe it or not, this one plays better. And the sound? Man o man o man! The Texas specials are fantastic but the active circuit makes them even better. With the circuit off, it sounds more or less like an American standard Strat but with the circuit on, it sounds like SRV's guitar. Get one of these if you can.

Comments about Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster Electric Guitar:

I purchased a candy apple red deluxe roadhouse, sight unseen and took a chance. I cannot believe what I got for the price I paid. This guitar is absolutely killer and gorgeous. I've had many axes, and this is just as nice as my top end guitars which I've paid WAY more for. It rivals many USA Fender models that are three times the price. The goodies that come on this guitar are amazing and I don't need to change anything out. It is very solid player,...and my paintjob/coating,.. Absolutely FLAWLESS and breathtaking. I cannot believe the quality coming out of Mexico these days! No need for an overpriced USA strat with this baby! This sucker growls. It also has a swiss-army knife variety of tones with the switch! Did I mention this also has a preamp built in?!!!!

This also came with a decent fender gigbag, which is not bad, but this guitar really deserves a hardshell home. It is a must for this beauty.

I do have to put in two very small complaints in. The backplate had one screw that didn't go in dead center to the hole and is less than 1/16 off. Not a big deal, but with all the attention to detail and the thing being flawless in every other way, this is the easiest thing not to screw up on.
Also, I about gasped when I opened it because it had what looked like silver paint on the bottom. It easily came off with my fingernail though and had absolutely no affect on the guitar. Just scared me for a minute. IMO, these things should've been caught in inspection.

Other than that...this thing is still a solid 5 out of 5 and an AMAZING value. It is now to the point, that I think you're better off getting the highest quality model of the Mexican strats before buying a low to medium priced USA.

Also, maybe I got lucky, but my setup was perfect right out of the box.

If you're thinking about getting this guitar...don't think...buy. I have a feeling that these badboys will be very highly regarded someday. Get them while they are still on the cheap!
