A great guitar

Comments about Fender DG-60 Acoustic Guitar:

I just love it.
Wish I could take it to work with me and play/look at it all day long.
Beautiful, easy to play, stays in tune, sounds fantastic----all for a very low price. I just love this guitar. My hands are small, but I can play this baby with as much ease as an electric or a 3/4 size guitar, including bar chords all the way up the neck. Frankly I am amazed that a guitar this cheap plays and sounds and looks so good.
I've only had the guitar since yesterday afternoon, so time will tell on the quality, but for right now I'll give it a 10.
Really an extraordinary value. I played more expensive guitars that are total clunkers compared to this one, and this is practically as cheap as you can get.

Fender DG60. The good, the bad.

By Crystopher Shadden

from Florida

Comments about Fender DG-60 Acoustic Guitar:

I would have payed a lot more, for this guitar.
I recently walked into a music store to check out acoustic guitars. I didn't actually intend on buying anything. I just wanted to browse, and price around. To make sure I was getting the best quality guitar, at a value I could afford. I picked up a few guitars. The lower-end Yamaha's and Epiphones. Up to the nicer Taylor, Martin's and Gibson acoustics. I wasn't really beating down the door to get at anything. Some of them sounded decent, but holding it was uncomfortable. Or the stock-action was just unbearble. Some of them sounded like strings stretched over a garbage can lid. And I wasn't impressed.

Picking up the Fender DG60 in Sunburst. I really liked the looks of the guitar itself. But that's not nearly as important, as the sound and feel. I started tinkering with it a little bit. And the sound was really crisp, and it was a great deep acoustic tone. The underside-neck is really smooth. And it feels good in the webbing of your hand. The action, for a stock guitar is the best I've ever seen. Better than half of the higher end guitars there. I saw the name was "Fender" and was saying to myself..."Wow, how much is this amazing instrument going to cost me?". I brought it up to the clerk, because the store I was at, I guess doesn't believe in tagging their guitars. But. He said. "$159.99". And I didn't think I heard him right. Surely he meant upwards of 1500 dollars? But no. At that point, I had to buy it just on principle. The only thing bad that I can say about the guitar is the stock strings. I'm so drilled into my preference though. So the stock D'addario strings might be perfect for some people. I'm an Elixer guy myself. But we'll save that for another review.
For that price. I went back and bought another one. Same great tone. And feel. Just a different finish. I highly reccommend this guitar. And this is coming from someone who went into a major instrument retail store, and played everything they had for a number of hours. Good luck!

Comments about Fender DG-60 Acoustic Guitar:

Purchased this as a gift for a member of the family that learned on a short scale electric and was ready to graduate to a full size guitar.

Fit and finish are very good, a few minor flaws but nothing significant. Please note that I repair and build guitars and am a tough critic on this point.

Setup was excellent! Only a minor truss rod adjustment required (this should be expected on any guitar). Action was very low and consistent out of the box. No fret buzz. Nut slots well cut.

Very nice tone for this size guitar. Bass and treble string balanced and project well. Typical Dreadnought voicing.

I'd be happy to record with this guitar and wouldn't second guess purchase of another. This is the second Fender acoustic that I've purchased in the past few years (the other is a Resonator). All I can say is that these are very good value instruments that play well right out of the box. Well done Fender!

Comments about Fender DG-60 Acoustic Guitar:

I recently purchased the Fender DG-60 in black and I love it! The other Fender acoustic that was advertised as the CD-60 was so similar in looks, specs & price that I contacted Fender and was told that the CD(Classic Design)-60 is the new model designation for the DG(Dreadnought Guitar)-60. Both models are one in the same. Also reviews on both models are great. Hope that clears up some confusion for you other Fender fans.

Comments about Fender DG-60 Acoustic Guitar:

All I can say is wow. I was really skeptical about buying this guitar for a friend that is a beginner, but when I got it and tuned it up. The action was really nice. Intonation dead on. I am not joking. I have a Martin 00CXAE and the action was better on this Fender than it was on the Martin. If I could get this with acoustic/electric I would buy one for myself. The sound was not as full as the Martin 00CXAE, but it was close enough to me. Don't hesitate buying this if you are looking for a great beginner acoustic guitar.I remember my first Acoustic guitar 30 years ago, it did not even come close to this for [$], it was way more $ and the action was horrable.

Comments about Fender DG-60 Acoustic Guitar:

I have been playing guitar for 43 of my 50 years. I've owned some really nice guitars including Gibson Les Pauls, Ibanez, Fenders, etc. I was looking for an inexpensive acoustic guitar and checked out the reviews and settled on this one (in black). I am not disappointed. I am amazed at how well this guitar sounds. It really projects the sound. I sanded a little off the bottom of the saddle and made a minor adjustment on the truss rod and now it plays wonderfully. The finish is flawless. I can't believe the quality of this guitar at such a low price. I would definitely recommend this guitar.

Comments about Fender DG-60 Acoustic Guitar:

I have played this guitar so much it needs to be refretted in first position. Great beginner guitar. Do yourself a favor though, throw some Martin SP strings on it and sand the bottom of the saddle to set it up right and it will play and sound far better. The neck on this guitar is nice. Very slim, with a very soft v shape. I taught myself to read music and play all the common open chords in the last year and a half. Works well for both strumming and fingerpicking. The downside is I have redressed the frets three times in first position and now I need a partial refret. The downside/upside is I can buy a new one for close to the price of a refret. Great guitar to learn on and one that is inexpensive enough to take anywhere with you and not worry too much about it due to the laminated top, back and sides. That said the downside is that The tone doesn't measure up to solid wood instruments, but I am totally satisfied for what I paid and I don't worry too much about loosening up the strings, putting it in a case and checking it with my baggage when flying.

Comments about Fender DG-60 Acoustic Guitar:

After learning to play guitar for just about a week, my girlfriend finally bought this guitar as a birthday present for me. It was simply the best acoustic guitar and worth the money to buy. The only thing that i do not really like about this guitar was the tuning. Once i got this guitar, i had to go to the nearest guitar store to set it up so that it would give a better sound. It's not a big deal tho. Just spent 30 bucks to change the string and set it up. Now, it's already three weeks of my learning playing guitar. I can say that i already addicted to play it. The guitar sounds so good that you would never believe it costs this low. I would definitely recommend this to all.
