Nothing royal about this insturment.

Comments about Fender Kingman SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have had my Fender Kingman for about a year and a half now. At the time, I really needed something that was acoustic and cheap, and I basically bought this guitar on impulse. I really did not know what I was getting myself into, to be honest. Here are the problems with the guitar:The action is way too high. I have had it adjusted to Taylor specs, and still the guitar will not allow for such an adjustment to work properly. The strings buzz like crazy, and I have changed them several times. Referring to the action problem, Barre chords and jazz chords are impossible to form with a crisp sound. When picking appregio, or kind of single note progressions, the tone of the guitar is dead. The guitar has NO tone, it really sounds just like a guitar, and nothing is special about it. Some Postitives:The guitar sounds excellent when playing your standard major and minor chords. The Kingman also performs well with a capo, at almost any position. The tone becomes almost tolerable when a capo is involved or the guitar is tuned down a little bit.If you're an accomplished musician, do not buy this guitar. If you're a beginner, or are buying for a, "starter," guitar, this guitar is a good choice. I realize that Martin and Gibson are expensive, but save up and buy from the big boys, because they make quality insturments, this guitar is anything but. I love Fender electric guitars and would not buy anything else, but acoustically, just stay away. Just Stay Away..

Vintage vibe & Great Value!

Comments about Fender Kingman SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have always had an affection for Fender acoustics from the sixties ; Kingmans , Villagers , Shenadoahs etc. I never seemed to hang onto them long due too the neccessity of mounting sound hole pickups and or close miking to be heard live. When I saw the new, updated KINGMAN I had to give it a try. WOW, thanks FENDER! I had been using an Ibanez AEL20E ,which is a gorgeous guitar, but it is just ...well way too gorgeous ! The Ibanez with its highly flamed maple top , high gloss finish, abalone binding & gold plated hardware was like having a beautiful super model for a girlfriend that is always "on the runway"; she has way too much flash & style to really get used to on a daily basis. The Fender KINGMAN on the otherhand, is like the pretty "cool chick" girl next door; you can get comfortable with her and just hang or she can dress up and impress! The vintage styling of the sunburst Kingman helps with the vibe factor and the tone is very midrangey to my ears. My Kingman came with Fenders' coated strings which I promptly replaced with a set of uncoated Musicians' Gear 80/20 12s I bought along with the guitar . Once I adjusted the neck and bridge, the KINGMAN began to settle in and rewarded me with a crisp vintage acoustic tone that nearly rivaled my 90s Gibson " Gospel" acoustic..impressive! This Fender has an on board tuner, and Fishman electronics with EQ and phase switch ;features much advanced over the vintage 60s models. This KINGMAN features a more traditional acoustic neck ( gotta love the block markers on the neck too!)with heel joint as opposed to the original bolt on electric neck type found on some of the vintage 60s models. This gives the guitar a more solid feel and adds substantialy to the acoustic tone. The KINGMAN also features the eye catching Fender headstock with logo that gets a lot of "double takes" & compliments every time. When placed in the Fender deluxe gigbag ( highly reccomended add on) the Kingman is still amazing light to carry to the gig . Strapped on , you will hardly notice the easy on the shoulder KINGMAN and will be impressed onstage by its' tone, feel and head turning vintage styling! . GOOD ONE FENDER !!!

GREAT SOUNDING GUITAR!

By Whatevadude2011

Comments about Fender Kingman SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I LOVE THIS FENDER KINGMAN GUITAR! After checking out the reviews here ,I decided that since most were very favorable , I would grab one. I bought the natural finish with gold pick guard , but the sunburst looked killer too. Once the guitar arrived I was itching to try it out. Out of the box the action was a slightly higher than I would like but fretted easily enough as is. A little patience and the provided truss rod wrench got it down to a nice , no buzz comfortably low action that felt really nice. Once the action was adjusted I just could not put this beauty down! Alternate tunings , barre chords , octaves , double stops , arppeggios and fast single note runs all sounded true, crisp and lively with a sweet woody tone. The onboard tuner really helped getting the guitar in tune off and on the stage. It also came in handy when using alternated tunings also. I had zero problems using a capo in any position as intonation was spot on all over the neck. I played mainly thru the house pa system and got a really nice tone each and everytime. My other guitar is a Taylor 214ce , which I love , but there are times when I need a lower cost guitar to take to some venues where security is an issue. The FENDER Kingman is just great for the job. Now I find myself playing this guitar much more than my Taylor at gigs. The tone , playability and build quality are more than enough to play professionaly. I bought the Fender gig bag with this as well but later found an after market hard shell case to protect my investment at gigs. I will buy another Fender Kingman as soon as my budget permits so I can keep my Taylor safe at home. When I gig, I will be proud to be seen on any stage with my sweet sounding and cool Fender Kingman acoustic!

Comments about Fender Kingman SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Bought this a month ago in the sunburst, absolutly beautiful. I was looking for a cheaper acoustic/electric. I was looking at about 5 other acousitc electrics, never even thought about this one. Picked it up because it was a fender. Played one chord and bought it on the spot. The tone is great. The pickup is great. Neck feels like a les paul style neck. Holds tune extremly well. Great action. I highly recomend you try it before you buy it.

FENDER KINGMAN...a cool acoustic guitar!

Comments about Fender Kingman SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

If this guitar was made of solid wood, it would have probably made a 10, but there is a compromise when you go to a laminated sound. However, it's good enough to gig with and I would have no problem taking it onstage. The electronics are good, but not great. I get a useable sound by adjusting the tone and volume without any pedals. Yes...this guitar is worthy, but I recommend playing it first if you can. The neck is wider than I'm use to and I find myself having to adjust to the difference. Sometimes I find a finger is deadening a string because I'm not use to the neck. It has a balanced tone and is fun to play!
This guitar is worthy if you want a cheap, inexpensive guitar to gig with. First, the sound unplugged is good, but not great. I have a Great Divide acoustic that is half the cost, but beats the tone of the Fender. It's not bad though and can be used unplugged too. Second, the sound plugged in which is really the design of this guitar. It took me a while, but I was able to get a solid, useable sound by adjusting the tone and volume controls. It sounds like a lot of electric/acoustics on hit songs. Third, the appearance is good, but I was slightly disappointed because of the color. I would have preferred a cherry sunburst, but the tabacco sunburst is good too. The Fender headstock is KILLER and one of the best features of this guitar. However, I keep running into the part where the headstock starts and the neck ends. I've gotten use to this, so it's not as big as a problem as when I first got it. Another killer feature is the inlays on the fretboard.
Remember, this is a laminated side and back guitar. However, Fender did it right by using a single piece of wood on the back, where my Great Divide is two pieces. It seems like it's well made and I have no complaints at this time.
This is the BEST feature for this guitar. It is as good if not better than other brands costing twice as much.

Fender Kingman SCE

By gmccabejr

Comments about Fender Kingman SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have been searching for "My Perfect Acoustic" for about 4 years. Now I have found it. In the last 4 years, I have bought a Guild DV-4, Alvarez RD20S, Zager ZAD-50CE, and Schecter Diamond Series A/C. I have small hands and have had surgery on both for carpal tunnel and trigger finger. I have had a problem with barre chords, but now I can finally play the songs I want without a problem. The Strat Type Neck makes all the difference. I had to shave off about 1/8" off the bottom of the saddle and adjust the truss rod, put on a set of Elixir Ex-Light Strings and now this guitar plays like butter. The unplugged sound of this Kingman is pretty good, but lacking compared to my Guild DV-4(which has awesome sound and volume qualities). I am willing to give that up for the ease of playing. The Zager was good when I first bought it, but it started to buzz and I tried to adjust the truss rod, but there wasn't enough tension adjustment. So I sent it back and all the did was raise the action and file the frets (they left terrible file marks on the frets). By this time, the return policy expired and they wouldn't let me return it. The Schecter plays great, but lacks the tone when played unplugged. The Alvarez plays good and sounds good and is not too bad all overall. The Guild's action is OK, but I can't get it to play like this Kingman. The build and finish quality are very nice and clean. I am selling off all my other guitars and keeping this Fender.

Kingman vs. Kingman

By Smoking Gun 01

from Out West, U.S.

Comments about Fender Kingman SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was in the market for a reasonably priced accoustic or acoustic/electric dreadnought of decent quality that I could use for stage work.I felt that something from Fender's California Series might be the ticket. I compared the different models and prices and decided that one of the older Kingman models (made in Korea)without the electronics or cutaway offered at a "clearance price". I figured since this was the highest-priced model in the series it would be the best built and I could add a pickup and electronics myself. When I received the guitar I was very disappointed with the build quality. Numerous flaws with fit and finish, sloppy glue joints, etc. Tone was o.k. but this wasn't a budget guitar. Sent it back and exchanged for this 2008 SCE model (now made in China and natural finish no longer available). Quality of this guitar was higher, built cleaner. Sunburst looks good though clear coat has some waves on body sides. Only two other flaws found, an unsquared end on the the 19th fret block inlay and a slightly sloppy glue job of the the neck binding where it meets the nut. Tone is very good unplugged or through my Acoustisonic Jr., brighter than the older model which was somewhat muddy (old corroded strings probably didn't help). Action was good out of the box, set low as expected with the Strat neck. Fishman electronics are obviously not their top of the line but work and sound fine. For the money this guitar is a much better value than the "clearance Kingman" and works well for playing live country-rock. Hopefully it'll stand the test of time on the road.

Judged book by cover: Pleasantly Surprised!

Comments about Fender Kingman SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar because of the way it looks and that great headstock. I got mine scratch and dent, still not disappointed. I did do the following to help it achieve my favorite pulled jam guitar at the moment. I installed the proper PP607 Artec undersaddle pickup instead of the crappy ribbon one that comes with it. I then custom carved and sanded a Graphtech TUSQ saddle and lowered the action. Put some elixirs on, adjusted the neck and VOILA, sweet warm tone, easy playing, great feeling neck, stays in tune 9/10 pulls without touch up, tough finish that wishstands bar atmosphere and lake visits, travels well (via air in an SKB case). I also put a pearloid pick guard on mine. the black one that it comes with is really thin and low quality. I thoroughly recommend this guitar! My finance is about to steel it and I"ll have to pick up another before they are gone or the price goes up anymore!

Great Guitar

By Martin man

Comments about Fender Kingman SCE Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I own several clasic guitars from Martin to Gibson and I must say that I was shocked when I the played the Fender Kingman. WOW! This guitar has a nice feel to it and plays really nice. It does'nt quite have the boom that a D28 would but plugged in I would not be ashamed to play it with the likes of Taylor or Martin players. For the price it's tough to beat.
