Fender

The return of a fabled and seldom-heard Fender name from the 1960s.

The Fender Modern Player Marauder—throughout its history, Fender® has always made a special point of welcoming new players to the family by offering entry-level instruments of remarkable style and substance (such as the Duo-Sonic™, Mustang® and Musicmaster® models), with great sound, classic looks, solid performance and eminent affordability. The Modern Player series continues that great my-first-Fender tradition, with thoroughly modern features and several distinctively unconventional new takes on our most revered instruments-all with outstandingly attainable value.

In addition to heralding the return of a fabled and seldom-heard Fender name from the 1960s, the Modern Player Marauder is one of the most distinctive new guitars in the family, uniquely marked by a new body style, Modern Player Jazzmaster® neck pickup and volcanic-sounding three-coil Fender Triplebucker bridge pickup. Other features include a koto body, C-shaped maple neck, rosewood fretboard with 22 jumbo frets, five-way pickup switching with lower horn blade selector switch, four-ply aged white pearloid pickguard, Jazz Bass®-style control knobs, vintage-style synchronized tremolo bridge, vintage-style tuners and nickel/chrome hardware.

Features:

I love this guitar! The pickups are great and I love the p-90 on the neck. Plays great, looks great, sounds great, and feels great.

Quality:
Value:

still blown away by what I got for the price.

Overall:

Pick up set up is great. I the triplebucker is active when you set the selector to bridge and middle. Bridge is humbucker, middle is single coil, neck is p-90. I do kind of wish there was a way o select just a single coil on the bridge.

Fender Marauder Modern Player

| Review By: Garrett Brown | 3 weeks, 4 days ago

Features:

Triplebucker, humbucker, single coil, combo, & soapbar - all the sounds I want. Whammy bar. Really beautiful color that changes in lighting. Wish I didn't have to deal with the floating tremolo bridge, and that there were wider color varieties available.

Quality:

Taking into account the pricepoint and that it's made in China, I really am astounded at the quality. I read many reviews positively commenting on this and it's really true. The quality is right up there with other much nicer guitars and better then some of the other Fender lines. I played some of the pawn shop series and was not impressed with the quality. But I have played three of the Modern Player guitars and all of them were very impressive quality. My only reservation is that I have gotten used to locking tuners, but these tuners are very nice for what they are. I didn't have to set anything up out of the box and only had to tune it (barely) and it sounded great. I took the .009's off and put .011's which drastically changed the tension of the bridge. I am going to have to add a spring (there are 3), get heavier springs, or drop down to .010's I think - but that is only b/c I like to have the bridge more flush with the body.

Value:

To me it's a no brainer. $400 or less for a Fender guitar that looks classic, but is unique, and sounds fantastic.

Overall:

High quality, low price, and a great sound.

Overall:

I just received the guitar and this is not a reveiw on the guitar. One of the previous reviewers suggested a gator case in this statement. "If you ar looking for a case the gator 546046 will fit it perfect." This case will NOT, I repeat NOT fit the marauder. I purchased this case and it is 1" too narrow at the lower bout. I regretfully have no other information to share other than this guitar looks amazing. I find the build quality is very good for the price paid and after a few mods I'm sre this thing will be beastly. I will update my review after I set it up and spend some time tinkering.

awesome guitar

Features:

this guitar is awesome. it's got all the pickup settings you need. the neck is really fast and the fit and finish is great. I only gave it a 8 because:

when you use the whammy bar it does not stay in tune well (problem with all similar vintage stratocaster-style tremolo bridges, not just this one. if you want to actually use the whammy bar more than occasionally get a floyd rose-equipped guitar), and it only comes with 3 springs in the back. I put another 2 springs in and tightened the claw to hardtail the guitar as I never use the whammy bar and it stays in tune just fine now. but I wish they had made the guitar in a hardtail version too... or at least came with all 5 springs.

Quality:

everything about this guitar is good except for the whammy bar. but if you disable it anyway like me it doesn't matter. the hardware is nice, the pickups are hot, the finish is beautiful. this guitar doesn't feel or sound or look cheap at all.

Value:

this is a really good, pro quality guitar. it's not a toy, or a beginner's level instrument. this is a serious guitar. it just happens to be relatively cheap. who cares if it's made in China. this is one of the nicest guitars I've ever played. US-made is overrated anyway. this guitar is as good as any American-made guitar I've played. and when you can get a Fender guitar like this for less than half the price of a US-made Fender, the choice is obvious.

it's really just sad that we can't get US made stuff for this price. maybe then the economy wouldn't be as bad.

Overall:

if you're kinda on the fence about this guitar, get off the fence. I guarantee you will love it. (unless, of course, you really need the whammy bar.)
