I own Telecasters made in the USA, in Japan, in Korea, in Mexico and yes, even in China. This guitar is flat out an unbelievable value and absolutely gorgeous. As far as the pine material, I have no worries whatsoever (and I have been a professional woodworker all my life) about any screws pulling out of this guitar. This is not your lumber yard pine - it's heavy and it's dense and no softer than alder or basswood, so have no fear. The pine body is also part of why I bought this guitar - it's different! Love it!
I've been wanting a Tele with H-S-S pickups for a long time and now I've finally got it. Five-way switching, plus the coil-tap toggle are a nice change from standard 3-way Teles, though the coil-tap is a little weak sounding. The neck is a beautifully quarter-sawn piece of maple and the vintage style tuners work fine. I really like the through-body stringing and the hard-tail bridge, too!
Right out of the box (pre-ordered mine sight unseen from MF) I was amazed at the quality of the trans-charcoal finish and just the downright beauty of this guitar. NOTE: This guitar looks VERY different from the picture on this site and on Fender's site as well - it is much darker and from a distance of six feet or more, you'll have a hard time seeing the grain. That said, this guitar is as well put together as any of the other 9 Teles that I own. If it weren't for the Made In China on the back of the headstock, you'd be hard put to guess where this guitar was made!
My title says it all - the best money I ever spent on a new guitar!

I love Telecaster's and over the years have bought about two dozen of them. This is by far the worst one I ever bought (or for that matter worse guitar ever). Once I returned it I saw a second one in the store and played it and it was every bit as bad. The only positive thing I can say about this guitar is the finish looks great (made in China no EPA to deal with!).
At its price range I was not expecting it to be the greatest telecaster in the world but I was expected to be at least as good as the Squier telecaster I got (made in Indonesia). In
First of all the playability was poor so I had to adjust the neck and the intonation (not a complaint). Once I set it up though I realized it still played horribly and the reason was the angle of the neck to the body was not even correct! I was going to have to re shim the neck which was beyond my skill level. Even on the cheapest guitars they don't normally mess that up.
Next was the sound, the best way to describe it is if you had a presence knob on your amplifier and instead of it going from 0 to 10 it went from zero to -10. This guitar makes any amplifier sound like it's presence control is on a -7 or 8! Regardless of which pickup you select it is flat out the thinnest and most sterile sounding guitar I've ever played in the last 35 years. I didn't even think it was possible to make a humbucker sound thin but somehow they were able to do it. They talk about it being made of pine (the cheapest possible wood available) like it's a big deal, there is a reason guitars are not made out of pine it's not like no one ever thought of it.
If you own a bar or restaurant and want to buy a guitar just to hang up on the wall and look cool this is it. But if you are even slightly serious about playing guitar you could not pick a worse one even if you tried.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus Electric Guitar:
Great Product for this price point. I always wanted a tele and I'm glad I made this purchase. Guitar is comfortable to play. The Sunburst color is beautiful (a bit darker than the actual picture). Set up to play right out of the box. I will likely change the Humbucker to one of my liking, although this one is good.
As always Musicians Friend delivered a great product. Believe what you read in these reviews. It's that good.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus Electric Guitar:
Got another super deal one of these from MF. All I can say its...it is an amazing fun axe to play. The neck is to die for and the tonal spectrum is amazing. Tons of sounds available with the three pick up set-up. The only sound you really have a problem with, is the traditional Tele sound. If that's what you want...get a standard tele. The beauty of this axe is great playability, great sounding pick ups, and....it has a belly cut like a Stat. Just a blast and look at that price. The finish will blow you away and mine was pretty much set up to play out of the box. Like any axe, a pro set up makes a world of difference. So if you are not hung up on must-having the standard "twang" of a Tele, pick up the phone and get one now. A really super value. Unlike the other big guitar company that tries to sell you half finished scrap wood in hopes you will be suckered in by having that logo (now cheap silkscreen), This Fender, made overseas is a really nice finished and super playable guitar. You do not have to spend thousands to get a good axe. Really, do yourself a favor and check one out.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus Electric Guitar:
I picked this awesome Gem up the other day at my Music Store and instantly knew I had to have it ! Things I'm really picky about is smooth frets , fast neck , no electronic noise from input Jacks . Well to be honest I'm a picky son of a gun but anyhow I really only found one problem I had with it and that is the Humbucker was a way to Bright when split but this actually ended up a good thing because it a really easy fix. Take the tone knob and turn it all the way down and then just slightly back up like an 1/8 of a turn and then turn your amp gain up and you got yourself a nice standard tele in the bridge sound for chicken picking. If you unsplit the coil just turn tone knob back up

Comments about Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus Electric Guitar:
I went to a local big market store to find a standard tele for playing out. The neck of the Standard and the American Standard I tried didn't feel like my old tele or my Ultra Strat. I picked up the Modern Player Tele Plus and it felt like home.
Plugging it in I liked the wide variety that the five position switch and the three very different pickup gave. After two days I gave in brought up Musicians Friend and ordered it.
The packing in the box was so good that when I took it out I put a tuner on it and it was still in tune. True. I inspected it and found it to be exactly as the inspection ticket hanging on it said.
Let me tell you about the neck. It is so much like my 1955 tele you wouldn't believe it. Same heavy finish and shape. Even the tuners are exact.
The body is not your average pine. This is dense and when played without an amp placing your ear to the body has a crisp clear sound like maple or real good ash. Not muddy like a lot of guitars do. I plugged it in and beautiful in every aspect. The setup is do good that you can play from bottom to top with ease.
I truly believe that Fender will up the price on these beauties they are better than any MIM and a few of the American Made guitars. I will play this stock on stage with anyone.
I consider this the best value for a guitar in many, many years. Don't wait.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus Electric Guitar:
The first thing you notice about this guitar is the great looks. The finish is flawless. The next thing I noticed was the quality of the hardware. The tuners are classic. I have Strats that are 40 years old with the same tuners , and have never had any problems with them, or needed to replace them. The neck pocket is as tight as any of the vintage Fender products that I own.The bridge looks like an American standard to me. The jumbo frets are finished perfectly. The tone and volume knobs, and the pickup switch are "beefy" , not at all like the flimsy ones on the Tele Squire that I bought a few years back. The maple neck is flawless. The nut width is perfect for me, as is the neck shape, radius and width. Most Teles aren't known for big string bends, but this one handles a full step bend just fine. When I think of a pine body , I think of the stack of two by fours at the local lumber yard. The body used to make the guitar that they sent me is nothing like that.Really dense, with a real tight grain. The shaved back makes it a very comfortable guitar to hold. The pickups have a lot of power , and give you a lot of tonal options. The neck pup gives the warm , clean bluesy sounds, the middle pup gives a 70s classic rock sound, and the bridge pup gives you lots of crunch. The bridge pup loses a lot when split, but raising it with the adjustment screws takes care of those issues.I have been playing since G strings were wound, and have been looking for a guitar that I could pack to a gig that would allow me to play anything from Roy Buchanan , to Dire Straits, to Otis Rush, and this is as close as there is. Don't let the "Made in China" sticker scare you. So are smart phones, pads and flatscreens. This is a quality guitar.

Comments about Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus Electric Guitar:
As soon as I hit the first chord I fell in love with this guitar. Set up right out of the box was perfect,m/jumbo frets and neck shape was great and the craftmanship is very good. HSS pickups give a world of variety in tones and all of them great. At this price, if you only own one guitar, this should be it.
