Fender FMT Telecaster

Features:

I play in a guitar oriented, aggressive country band and this guitar is perfect for me.  I set up the amp to get the most twang I can out of the single coils then stomp the humbucker switch and the Overdrive to go straight to singing lead tone.   Covers both the twang of Dwight Yoakum and the shred of Jason Aldean guitars.  LOVE the Pearly Gates and I've owned Hot Rails, JB and dozens of guitars.

Quality:

Had this axe almost ten years now with no issues.

Value:

Expensive for an Asian guitar (Korean) but worth the money compared to other guitars in the same price range.

Overall:

The reason I wrote this review is to relate my experience with this guitar.  I have owned it for almost ten years and during that time have had a Highway One Tele, a Deluxe Nashville Power Tele, an American and Mexican strat, and I grew up on humbucking Les Pauls and SG's.  This guitar KEEPS COMING BACK to the number one slot in my collection no matter what else I try.  Ever since the first time I played it at Guitar Center through a Hot Rod Deluxe I have not been able to surpass the sound and flexibility I get from that guitar/amp combo.  If you are looking for an axe that can go from jangly single coil to sweet singing lead you should check this one out.

Great choice for me

Features:

Read the specs. For me they were perfect and I was right. AND the thing is gorgeous!!!

Quality:

I was worried as I did not have much information on guitars built in Indonesia. However this guitar is flawless from the laying and finishing of the spalted maple, to the neck connection, to the flame top clear coat to the extra attention paid to the headstock finish. I did have a bent tuner knob that I am pretty sure happened post factory in the box. It was fixed in 3 minutes with a pull of a wrench.

Value:

Looked at a lot of tellys, even custom built. Found what I wanted with this one for half the price or more! Honestly, even after endless research, I did have to get past the Indonesian built aspect however glad I did. I also must admit I would have liked a gig bag with it but not sure if thats getting greedy or not.

Overall:

I am a fairly new musician and an extremely weathered audience having spent my fortune and past 20 years on concerts and music travel. I have always visually loved the natural ash body of the american standard telecaster with the black pickgaurd. However when I statred playing 4 years ago, I received a mexican standard black telly (like Dylans) as a gift. I have earned what chops I have on it, am attached and know I am undoubtably a  "telly girl". So now I am searching for a new guitar and cannot get the natural body telly out of my mind. Do I spend a grand for a guitar that will be close in sound to the one I have grown to love?.......NO dont have to! Found the beautiful spalted maple with the Seymour Duncan pickups. This guitar is gorgeous in sound..bright and expressive--people are gonna listen to you, and simply beautiful to look at--people are gonna look at you(r guitar). ha ha. I am one happy tele owner!! I have two now that offer really really different options for my playing and fill the aestetic of the natural wood look.  I did have one problem with the tuner knob being slightly bent. It was corrected in 3 minutes with a little wrench pull, pretty positive it happened after factory in the box. Other than that paid 5 extra bucks and got the guitar in two days. Muscians Friend did a good job of communicating and shipping. As other people have commented on this guitar...ALOT recieved for the price paid.

Best kept secret...

Features:

Thin, lightweight body makes for comfortable playing.  Coil splitter switch nice, but of questionalbe real value.  Nice tuners, bridge.  This is not meant to be a complex instrument, so the features fit the concept.  Only complaint is that I found myself pulling the high E string off the neck on occasion.  Perhaps not quite as much fretboard space as I'm used to.

Quality:

I think most people will be amazed at the build quality for the price.  I've seen way more expensive instruments that are significantly "less playable."  Good materials, marquee pickups, nice hardware.  Even the glossy finish, which I am not usually a fan of, comes off very nice in person.  No complaints.

Value:

Amazing.  Again, there are a lot more expensive guitars that don't feel this good.  Nice hardware and above-standard fit and finish aren't usually found at this price.  Sometimes I wonder if Fender keeps this guitar under-promoted because they don't have much margin on it.  Who knows.  In any case, let the used market be your guide.  First, you can almost never find one up for sale and second, if you do find one, the price is often at or above "new."  That says a lot.

Overall:

Others have said the same, but it is true - if you buy this guitar, you may find your other instruments gathering dust.  No, it doesn't have quite the smooth low crunch as a Les Paul.  No, it doesn't have quite the country twang of a Tele.  No, it can't get quite the same bright ring of a Strat in the 2 or 4 position.  BUT... you can pick this thing up, and play an incredibly ecclectic mix of music without ever putting it down.  Going from an Eagles song, to Iron Maiden to the Police is no problem.

Plus, it is hands down the nicest looking guitar at this price point.

Swiss Army Knife of Guitars

Overall:

I play in a cover band with a pretty diverse set list and I am the designated "tone-clone" of the band meaning the other guy usually handles the straight-ahead Crunch and I have to simulate everything from AC-DC, to Skynard to organ solos.  With the right pedals this guitar can do it all! With the coil tap the powerful and hot pickups and solid body w/set neck, this thing is capable of a lot of about anything.

Some comments on palm muting the bridge: at first it is awkward if you are used to other styles of bridge like a Les Paul or standard Tele (like I was) but once I got used to it I prefer it and I PM the crap out of songs like "heart breaker" with this thing.

Oh and it is gorgeous! I have never seen a guitar that I liked looking at as much as this one, the likelihood that some other dude will have one is about nil.

If you are wondering why it is this cheap its only evident in tiny details. My tone knob is a little loose, though the volume has a nice weight to it but I'm sure if I told my guitar guy to do something about it he could at a pretty low cost.

If they made one with a maple fretboard and a tremelo I might buy another and only play these two guitars forever.

I ordered this guitar for Christmas, kept it about a week and returned  it. The veneer was almost coming lose on the body of the guitar. I was  going to have to spend about $60 to have the guitar set up just to  decide if I wanted to keep it. The condition in which it arrived  rendered the instrument non-playable.
