I bought this guitar about 6 years ago just before they raised the price. Over the last 40 years I have bought (and still have) the following electric guitars...Ibanez Pro Les Paul style, Steinberger Spirit, Vaccaro, Jackson Dinky with Sustaniac, Rickenbacker 360 Fireglo, Fender Standard Tele. The Tele put an end to my search for the perfect guitar. I play 60's and 70's classic rock. I play with tube amps and straight into a Zoom R16 recorder. I use a 10-46 string set. This tele feels, plays and sounds better than any of the others. To my ears it's what an electric guitar should sound like. It's responsive to slides and bends and strumming and soloing. It can play clean or dirty, and has that beautiful breaking twang on sliding bar chords that is the heart of electric guitar for me. It's the cheapest of all my guitars and the best. This one gets played while all the others gather dust. The best guitar I have had at any price. Tune it and play it forever.

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

The thing about a Telecaster is the simplicity of it. This guitar is a solid made instrument. Stripped down, basic Tele. It doesn't have the body contours, pick-ups and machine heads of the USA models. But make no mistake, this is one solid guitar! Very good quality, sound and playability. Got that classic Tele "twang". A variety of tone can be pulled out of this guitar. A little heavier than the USA models as well! Before you drop the cash on an American model, play one these first. You'll be hard pressed to tell the difference other than visual appointments. I've been playing guitar for 50 years now and still can't believe the guitar you get for this price! It's a steal! I have Gibsons, but always wanted a Tele just for the sound that they produce. This guitar's tone and quality is every bit as good as the high end guitars that I own. If you purchase this guitar, you will be very impressed and not disappointed. I figure just a matter of time the MIM Tele's price is just about to skyrocket! The secrets out, folks! Get one at this price while you can!

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

Love this guitar! I have the black one, and it is just beautiful.
It DID require proper set up of both neck adjustment (eighth of a turn took care of it), and bridge saddles (proper intonation)...but every guitar I have ever bought via mail has needed this...they are in the business of selling instruments, not tuning them.
Playing it through my Fender Ultimate Chorus amp it has a tone that is unbeatable at any setting on clean or distortion. However; through my Vox VT30, I can't seem to find a sound I like (strange I know)...so it MAY depend on the amp and/or effects you use.
I say "strange" because I can get a decent sound through the Vox with my Squire Standard Tele (Blonde w/Rosewood fretboard) with Bigsby bridge add-on I installed myself. But the Fender Tele has much hotter pick-ups.

Though I also have two Strats....nothing beats the feel and playability of a Tele---NOTHING.
Could never substantiate (in my personal life) the price of an American guitar, when you can get just as nice of quality and sound with a cheaper model through the right amp. And this Mexican Tele proves it.

Get one in any color, they are all gorgeous.

The best guitar I've ever played!

    By Francisco Huete

    from San José. Costa Rica

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

So comfortable and easy to play, I dare to say it almost plays it self!!!
I've played other guitars like Gibsons and Yamahas and this Fender Standard Telecaster is simply the best guitar I've played... Just play it through a nice amp and add some cool effects, and enjoy its beautiful sound!!!
Simple guitar with a great sound!
Well constructed, solid wooden body, lovely maple fingerboard!
THe only bad thing were two pickguard screws that got rusty a few months after I bought the guitar, so I had to change them...
    This is an amazing guitar...

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I recently purchased this guitar in "Midnight Wine". I was worried that it was going to be more of a red than a dark purple, however, when I received it I was thrilled to see that the dark color was there. I put a black tele pickguard on it and now it looks even better. The feel and glide of the neck can't be beat, and all of the tone you could ask for is there. The only problem is the factory set up. I have some fret buzz, not horrible, but enough to bother me. The open D and G buzz, as well as the fifth and seventh frets. I plan to take it to a guitar shop and have it properly set up, and fully expect this guitar to sound, look, feel, and play like a USA model. If you don't mind having some work done, THEN GET THIS GUITAR.

    Nice Guitar but...

    By Jake Sinnaeve

    from Dansville M.I

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

Okay, I will now embark on a long and very sad tale, I bought the artic white standard tele. I could barely sleep @ night, I was so excited! And when it finally came, I was so happy! I intended on replacing the white pickguard on it to a black one but it looks so sweet w/ the white one! Note: all the guitars finishes look way better in person than on the site. As for tone, it is rich, all the single-coil u could want! I loved it, even striaght through my 5 watt tube amp.
Perfect for blues, jazz, and almost any kind of rock! It even held up to some hardcore as well. Very versitile, very awesome! I also appreciated the gig bag included. The pickups do have a little hum, especially @ high volumes but not much. Everything on the guitar feels real. It seemed packaged well too. But then I found it, that deadly blemish. There was a poor paint job underneath the clear finsh. Somebody forgot to finsih painting it white and there was this grey smudge-like thingy! It broke my heart b/c I was in love w/ this guitar! Desprate to have it, I quickly called. I wanted to do an return & exchange. But they told me that they no longer sold the guitar in this finish, that it was discontinued or something. That made like no sense to me. (or any other human being) I was so dissapointed!! Believe me, this guitar is one u will fall in love with w/in the 1st day! It is very different and inspiring from a humbucker guitar and I only had humbucker guitars b4 this one! As I began to dispair, I also noticed that my gig bag had a hole in it! That was the final straw, I returned the item (guitar and gigbag). Also, another note, u should see the neck plate on the back of the guitar! It is a 60th aniversiary one and it has a tele emblem on it and everything! Very nice! I urge you if you're not sure about this guitar, just buy it, it will inpress you! Thanks 4 reading my huge review/story.
I'm giving this a 9 only b/c I can hear a iny bit of hum from the pickups @ loud volumes. But they sound sweet, very twangy, and great for jazz, blues, or rock. (even a little hardcore)
I could not even tell the difference between this guitar and an American standard! It sounds as good, plays as good, and looks as good!
I think this guitar is a great buy, I'd easily buy it again. Although I would get a hardcase instead of a gig bag.

    First guitar I bought myself

    By Jeff Chmielewski

    from MI

    See all my reviews

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

This was the first guitar I bought myself. I bought the 2009 version when I was 17. It was definitely a step up from my Epi LP Junior. It's got great versatile tones; you can play crunchy palm muted riffs and switch over to beefy blues tones or fuzzy stoner rock riffs. It's durable, it's versatile, it stays in tune, it sounds great, it's a great value, and it's a sharp-looking guitar. Definitely something you'd want to take some time to consider.
Everything on it is straight forward and simple: Tone and volume knobs, pickup selector. If you like simplicity, this is what you want. Jumbo frets are also make playing more comfortable if you are a big handed individual such as myself. The neck pickup adds a lot of extra beef to the tone if that's your kind of thing. I never was a fan of through-the-body stringing until I got this guitar; once I restrung it a few times it really changed my mind on it, it makes things much easier.
I've never had any bad experiences with the quality of a Fender. Very-well made, durable, and clean cut guitars.
Excellent pricing, considering the American Tele is a few hundred dollars more.

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

The MIM guitars are now up to par in finish work now with the best of anything around. Paint, and satin finished necks......they just look good. Under the hood.....is another story. I'm just being honest. I take everything apart to see exactly what I'm getting. The person who does the soldering for all the electronics is bad. Nothing was loose....but instead of nice, well heated connections, with a seamless flow of one pool of solder, it was a blotchy mess in every pot. The capacitor was bent many times to fit in the pot terminals and had a crinkled lightning bolt look to it. Not good. The pickups are ....OK. And fine what what you pay. But they're very very cheap construction. Replacing them with a decent after market Glendale, Callahan hardware, and good pots, oak grigsby three way....set will make this guitar a really decent one. On the neck, the fret ends will nip you as the neck shrunk and the frets grew a little. I humidified the guitar, and did some light fret dressing to fix that. Bottom line....a decent guitar for the money if you buy it with a 20% off coupon. I got mine for 400.00 shipped. Then replace everything from hardware to pickups.....and you not have a really great gigging workhorse. Hope this helps.....it's a beautiful guitar though. That is perfect. It looks great.

If you are a Tele fan but cant afford the us model I recommend this Standard Tele. Buy it for the low price that MF has on it and you will be very pleased that you did. 100% Fender Quality throughout. Several colors to choose from.

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

Had mine for about a year without problems. I installed a bigsby on mine, which turned the twang on it into a more harmonious sound. It is a fun guitar. I play it everyday, even though it is sitting next to a '61 g6120! It gave me that great fender sound I was looking for.

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

My other guitars are a squire and bottom end epiphone. I could not believe the difference between my low range instrument to picking up a mid-range instrument. Does it have the quality and tone of the American Tele? Probably not, but as a budding guitarist it plays nicely and I find myself wanting to take it to bed because I hate putting it down!

              The Perfect Guitar, who knew?

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I just found out that this is the perfect guitar for my songs. In my mind my songs should sound a certain way. The Jazzmaster and Les Paul I have been playing nver quite gave me the osound I was looking for. The Breedlove Acoustic was probably the best thing to play them on, but now the Tele has stepped up and shown me exactly what I've been looking for. My conclusion from this is that in the neck position telecasters are more like an electrified acoustic steel string.

I would have liked to buy an American made Telecaster, but I opted for the Mexican for its cost. I must say for all you aspiring musicians, as is, this could possibly be the best guitar for you to get acquainted with playing guitar. It really doesn't need modification per se.

I on the other hand will be modifying this guitar with custom made pickup by Curtis Novak and switch, volume, tone, capacitor and jack from RS Guitarworks. This should get the most out of the construction of a pretty well made guitar and make it sound like a vintage telecaster.

But for all you beginners I suggest getting this guitar right away, you will not be disappointed.
The biggest feature to me would be the tuning keys. I perfer classic F hole vintage tuning keys, but these are fine too. They are not staggered like the American Standard. I plan on changing them to vintage style.
The quality is pretty good. The one draw back would be the amount of static when the strings are open.
You can't beat the value on this guitar. I picked mine up fpr $450.00 and am getting more than my bang for the buck.

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

First, let me start by saying I am a Fender man and was so excited to get this guitar. The guitar looked beautiful but, instead of a 3 position selector switch, there was a 5 position selector switch. I wouldn't be concerned except there were only 3 pickup settings. the number 2 and number 4 positions were the same sound as the number 3 position? I would have had some problems switching on the fly to get the sounds I wanted. Secondly, the "G" string would pop out of the nut when I played hard or tried to bend the string at all. So disappointed with the guitrar, I returned it for a refund. I will go to a Fender showroom and hand pick my new Telecaster this time.

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

A few weeks ago all of my Strats were stolen and I ordered a used Tele for a quick replacement. After a small mix up in ordering, Musician's Friend went above and beyond to make sure I had a guitar fast.
It was setup and rocking right out of the box. Super fast neck(feels like the Strats I'm used to),love the glossy front and satin back. The Lake Placid blue is gorgeous. Couldn't be happier with this one.

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

in the ball park with american standards but will not have the resale values. with new pickups and a good set up it think it plays like a $1500.00 guitar and in the fender line up that is saying alot considering american deluxe is that much. If you are new at guitar you can grow old with one of these and never be too advanced to appreciate the tone and playability. I got this for my son who is to young now to even hold a guitar. When he has 25+ years under his belt like me he won't be too good for this tele. It is a great guitar that does not hold you back no matter how good you are.

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar new, four years ago when it was on sale and took an additional 20% discount. I've played for over 45 years and have a USA Strat, Gibson ES339 & ES175, Taylor 410CE, Martin 000, Ovation Tornado (look it up), and a few classicals and guitar synths. Variety of amps. While this Tele is not the finest guitar I own, I seem to pick it up quite often. I gig regularly with several groups and have used it for a Chicago cover band, Classic Rock, Blues/Funk and even some contemporary jazz tunes. It also works fine in the studio. Like most single coils, there is a bit of hum, especially with some compressors, but nothing you can't deal with. Simple bare bones design, yet very flexible in the tones, from crunchy rock to clean, mellow jazz. Guitar required some set up on arrival, but nothing major. Fit & Finish are fine. Neck solid and comfortable to hold. I chose the Arctic White and it's very nice. After 4 years, I have no reservations recommending this guitar. For the money, this is probably the most guitar for the price that I own.

Comments about Fender Standard Telecaster Electric Guitar:

I've been a strat guy for years. I'm my 9 years of playing professionally I've owned a lot of strats. I won't lie to You with the "I've owned several of every kind of guitar". I own 5 strats and an SG but the Telecaster has always caught my eye so I finally bit the bullet on one of these with the idea of upgrading to American if I liked it. No need! This guitar is amazing. I play professionally in a country rock group (think Blackberry Smoke) and I play in a blues band for fun. This guitar immediately became #1 for both bands. Even when I do sit in work with my dad's classic rock cover band or a house jazz band at a buddy's restaurant I love taking this guitar and seeing people's face when you rock Van Halen songs or jazz improvs on a tele. It ain't no metal guitar but it'll tackle rock, country, blues, jazz and everything like that with ease. The neck is chunky in all the right places and the glossed fretboard makes bends a breeze. The guitar is on the heavy side which I love. There's access to every fret. The pickups are phenomenal, the bridge pickup is spanky when clean and bites with overdrive. The neck pickup is soulful and expressive clean with a little reverb and sings with some drive. The sustain from the string through design lasts for days compared to a strat. It stays in tune great. My only complaint (which is more a learning curve than anything) is the pickup selector is in a goofy spot to me. But that's a tele's design so it's not this model exclusively. I got sunburst and it looks awesome. Do not hesitate. I put off a telecaster for far to long.
