OVERVIEW

A classic joins the anniversary celebration with some significant upgrades.

The Gibson Les Paul Standard 2014 Electric Guitar celebrates Gibson's 120th Anniversary in style. It has a mahogany body with modern weight relief. The mahogany neck has a '60s slim taper. The compound radius rosewood fingerboard has undercut frets over the binding for extra playing surface and sports a 120th Anniversary banner at the 12th fret. Other key features include Burst Bucker Pro 1+2 pickups with coil-splitting and phase changing, reverse polarity rear pickup, max grip speed knobs, the Min-ETune system, Graph Tech nut and TonePros locking tune-o-matic bridge.

Min-ETune automated œrobot tuners
Min-ETune is a small compact battery powered tuning unit that sits on the back of the guitar ” a mighty enhancement to an already great instrument. No need for screws, wiring or routing, in fact the system is hardly visible from the front of the guitar. You can still adjust the tuning pegs manually or turn on the Min-ETune to choose from 12 popular tunings or program six of your own.

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar:

I have this guitar in Ocean Water Perimeter. It is a great guitar, a really sharp looking Les Paul. It seems lighter than my studio probably due to the modern weight relief. Guitar is bright sounding with the Maple top and rosewood fretboard. The 60's neck feels just right.

My only complaints are the change in binding, I much prefer the nibs over the fret ends. I find the string tends to slip off the fretboard on bends moreso without them. There also was a gouge in the fretboard above the third fret inlay, a quality control issue with Gibson I presume. I also wish Gibson could use ebony fretboards again.

I swapped out the tuners with nickel plated Grovers. Min-e-Tune should be an option on these guitars and not a standard feature.

Overall I love my standard, easily my favorite guitar. Although I might go ESP or Carvin for my next purchase. Gibson doesn't seem to make them like they used to.

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar:

Great looking guitar. The tuner does not tune the G and E string correctly. If you do individual strings it does better. I'll replace it, can't take the chance on stage. Beautiful axe to take on the road, replace the strings. Coated ones are not for me!

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar:

Action and sound are great. Fretting requires a light touch so as not to accidentally bend the strings when pressing down. ETune is inaccurate and difficult to tune manually. The bass side machine heads turn backwards, and I think the strings are hanging up on the nut because the frequency jumps around when trying to tune manually. Finish is hazy around some of the hard corners.

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar:

First I bought a Marshall Valve State 2000 that is a combo and had it rebuilt and then I bought the 2014 Les Paul Standard and I can't hear out of my left ear. Some fret buzz on the high E string so I'll raise the stings and may change to #8 strings because the tens are tight. Have a Epiphone Standard with a pick guard and a Bigsby which I may transfer to the Gibson Standard. Have stopped playing until I see what happened to my hearing. Too many watts and way too loud but what a sound.
