Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Traditional Electric Guitar:

My 2014 Les Paul Traditional (Cherry Sunburst) arrived a couple of weeks ago. It is my 11th guitar and 2nd Les Paul (2014 Gibson LP Studio, last July). It is beautiful. I am writing this for anyone considering a Les Paul, especially if you grew up during the classic rock era. I feel that it is as close to a late 50's Les Paul as many of us can afford.

The fit and finish is excellent. The action and intonation are also great - after the first couple of days, it stayed in tune very well. I did comparisons with the aforementioned Studio and my Fender American Standard Stratocaster (1994, 40th Anniversary). Les Pauls and Stratocasters are very different, so it seems most pertinent to compare the Traditional with the Studio which I like very much and keep out to play regularly. Aside from the cosmetics and binding, the Traditional is noticeably heavier. The other major difference is the tone. I like the 490 pick ups in the Studio, but the 59s in the Traditional seem to have a smoother tone - perhaps more "vintage." To me they sound more musical - clean and distorted. Tone is very subjective, but the Traditional's make me happier. The Studio does have coil splitting, but I tried them when I first got it, but really haven't used that feature since.

If you are looking for a "Traditional" Les Paul - no body routing, coil-splitting, head stock tuning, or "100" logo - this is your guitar. It has a classic, old-school vibe, and it plays and sounds wonderful. The guy I talked to at Musician's Friend was very helpful in selecting the exact instrument and I couldn't be happier with the service or the guitar. A month ago, I was not looking to buy another electric guitar. I checked out the 2015's and didn't think they were for me. With the lowered price for the 2014 and all that it had to offer, I knew THAT was what I wanted. I am completely satisfied with this guitar and the case is really cool too.

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Traditional Electric Guitar:

This guitar (level 2 used) is the nicest guitar I've ever played. I have a Gibson SG and have done a side by side comparision, it's not even close. Sustain = great. New pups are awesome. They are really articulate but can be dialed in for a great, not good, rock and blues tone. Craftsmanship is top quality, even on this used, which had two minor nitro surface scratches. The only drawback I can see is the weight, but it doesn't bother me. Maybe the tuners, but they do what they're supposed to do. Really just a great sounding guitar and beautiful finish.

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Traditional Electric Guitar:

This is my first real Gibson Les Paul after spending many years broke and dreaming of owning one. I chose the Honey Burst finish, and the pictures on musicians friend really don't do this guitar justice. Its very similar to Heritage Cherry Sunburst except the red is really faint around the edges instead of black around the edges like the pictures show. You have got to see one in person its absolutely gorgeous! I did not purchase this guitar from musicians friend, so I got to spend alot of time with it at a local music store before deciding it was the one. I spent hours trying out different Les Pauls: Standards, Traditionals, a 1958 VOS reissue, a Customs, Etc, Etc. I just kept going back to the Traditional. It just had everything I was looking for in a Les Paul. The tone, the feel, and look was spot on. It basically came down to a standard and my traditional, but I made the right choice in the end. The only thing I liked better about the standard was the 60s profile neck but the tone of the Traditional killed it every time. Plus I would never use the coil tapping features of the Standard anyways. A Les Paul should stay a Les Paul and if thats what your looking for I promise you wont regret it!

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Traditional Electric Guitar:

To me the Les Paul traditional represents everything a Les Paul should be. Solid hard mahogany with no weight relief, round 50's neck, thick maple cap and some bling but not too much. the 59 pups give it an even more authentic LP sound, better then 57's in my opinion. This thing can sound cleaner then my strat and dirty when needed without losing it's clarity. If you want "that sound" this is the LP to get. It was set up well out the box with no issues as far as poor quality control.

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Traditional Electric Guitar:

This is an excellent guitar. Yes, Gibsons are expensive but when you play it you can feel and hear the quality and workmanship put into it. The nitrocellulose finish requires a little extra care to keep it in good shape so keep that in mind. The Midnight Manhattan finish is gorgeous. It looks like dark blue velvet. The fret over binding eliminates the problem of the high e string slipping off the fretboard when doing a hammer on from the open e string. The frets are lower in the fretboard so you get nice low action with no buzzing. With the cryogenic treatment of the frets you will more than likely never need an expensive re-fret. The sustain is great. Personally I like the 59 Tribute pickups better than the pickups on other 2014 models. It has that classic Les Paul sound used on countless classic rock songs. Originally I wanted one of the other models with coil tapping but I really wasn't impressed with their sound and the fact that a lot of them use push-push pots which are known to wear out quickly. I am used to slim taper necks on my other Les Pauls but I find the late 50's neck on this one to be very comfortable. Doesn't seem to tire out my hand at all. Be prepared to use some nut lubrication product to keep the g string in tune, which I understand is a common issue for Les Pauls due to the angle of the headstock. I have some pinging in the b and high e string when tuning so the plek machine slipped up when cutting the nut but I understand the lifetime warranty will cover a local luthier to refile the nut at no cost to me. Overall if you can afford it I would highly recommend this guitar.

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Traditional Electric Guitar:

King of tone, has a good feel neck feel, although it is wide as an acoustic guitar I used to have. Hard to play solos on the low end of the neck (I come from 24 frets start style guitars). Looks are killer too.
Bottom line: If you like tone and sustain this is it. If you want single coils mixed with hum buckers there are other models. The sperzel runners I guess you could install them and I do recommend it as it goes out of tune frequently

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Traditional Electric Guitar:

Overall an excellent guitar. The 59 pickups sound magical and produce the classic Les Paul tone. This is a guitar that can be used in practically any musical environment.

There is one flaw though. I think this holds good for many Gibsons that are being produced today. The strings bind the nut make the guitar go out of tune when bending. This can be corrected by applying a bit of cut sauce or graphite from a pencil on the slots and the guitar stays in tune longer but still not perfect. Gibson should seriously address this issue when someone is playing over 2,000 for their products.

Personally, I didn't like the 120th fret inlay. I think they put one for the heck of it looks a little cheap. But again, its a personal opinion and yours may differ.

Most importantly, the guitar has a good sound, great feel and that classic Gibson look and tone. I hope to play this guitar for a very long time.
