Comments about Gibson 2016 J-45 Vintage Slope Shoulder Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I've been playing semi-professionally for 20 years. The guitar will likely ship with 12-52 gauge strings which will cause some buzzing and fretting out if played hard. 13-56 is what I think this guitar needs. It does have an undeniably good rich tone - 1k worth more than the Gibson J45 "standard". My guitar had some chipping of the finish near the frets on both bass and treble sides - not cool for a new instrument. In the end, this guitar is all about sound and mojo. if you want a perfectly finished and amazing sounding guitar, spend more money and get a Collings. Expect to have to have the guitar action adjusted to your preference if you get one as it is quite high on arrival.
In the debate between an old 45 from the 40's or 50's and the new one - its a toss up. It's structurally more sound and under warranty if anything goes awry. I think this one sounds almost as good with less worry about a vintage instrument. Of course the best thing to do is have a vintage one AND a new one!
