OVERVIEW

This beauty is a blast from the past, but with some great modern touches.

The Les Paul Traditional 2017 T is a trip back in time to the Les Paul's golden era. A Les Paul inspired by the legendary late '50s Les Pauls, with all the benefits of modern-era Gibsons. From a distance—with its Traditional features and accurate Grade-AA maple top on a solid mahogany body—this Les Paul could be mistaken for a guitar kept under the bed since 1959. Get closer, though, and the magic reveals itself! Once in your hand, Les Paul Traditional 2017 T unveils subtle but incredibly significant advances: rolled binding, polished frets, and a rounded neck profile make this guitar extremely comfortable to play. Wired ABR and aluminum stop-bar with steel posts deliver incredible resonance and sustain, while the Burstbucker 1 and Burstbucker 2 humbuckers with Orange Drop tone caps crank out dynamic, expressive PAF-inspired tones. Put it all together, and it's a superb take on the best of Les Paul models past, made for today's demanding player. It is delivered in a classic Gibson brown hardshell case with a Gibson multi-tool, a premium leather strap and a polishing cloth.

Not what I expected...

Comments about Gibson 2017 Les Paul Traditional T Electric Guitar:

I'm giving this guitar four stars because it is well worth it. I've played tons of Les Paul guitars and I've owned quite a few really nice ones. This time I was in the market for something like a vintage without the price tag. This seemed like the perfect purchase... until I opened the case! The truss rod was labeled "Standard" instead of "Traditional", and the top is very plain with zero flame.. it's supposed to be AA flame maple. I have a J-185 custom with AAA maple and let me tell you, everyone that's seen it pretty much drools over it. I let that part go and plugged into my Marshall DSL40C and I almost let the cosmetics go. This is probably the heaviest Les Paul I've played and the tone is out of this world. The fret board feels great, the tuners are just like the vintage tuners, it's a monster. I've been reading reviews where people are experiencing the same issues as me with the tops, apparently it's not uncommon. I'm in touch with Gibson since musicians friend gave me very little help or effort to satisfy me for the money I spent. I will post another review when it's all said and done. At the end of the day this is one of if not the best sounding les paul I've played, I'm just not thrilled with the top appearance.

Comments about Gibson 2017 Les Paul Traditional T Electric Guitar:

I think Gibson hit a grand slam with the 2017 Traditional T. I own several other U.S.A. made guitars including another Les Paul and a Strat. They're now collecting dust as the Traditional gets all my play time. I wouldn't change anything about it!

Comments about Gibson 2017 Les Paul Traditional T Electric Guitar:

The 2017 Les Paul Traditional is a great pickup for those like me who want the classic Les Paul sound at a fraction of the price. The non-weight relieved body with Burstbuckers etc. deliver the classic LP tone. And the biggest surprise is the neck. I'd say that it is in between the 50's baseball bat and a 60's slim taper - very comfortable. Simple cosmetic changes such as adding a switchwasher, installing the pickguard, and replacing the truss rod cover with a blank one make this guitar look like a vintage instrument. The ability to pick your exact instrument by seeing pictures of the actual guitar is icing on the cake because you can pick the weight and exact top you are looking for. As with all Les Pauls, take it to a tech to make sure the nut and frets are properly set up to avoid tuning issues. I started on Les Pauls 30+ years ago and have wanted to pick up a new one for a while, but the cost and lack of classic appointments have been prohibitive. The 2017 Traditional is the best model I've come across in many years. If you want a combo of a '58-'60 Les Paul for less, this is a solid choice.
