OVERVIEW

The classic looks, sound and feel of the legendary SG, plus modern, American-made reliability.

The SG Fusion was designed around the Gibson standards of quality and innovation for Gibson USA's new S Series, bringing unprecedented value in an American-made guitar. It is made in USA, with American craftsmanship that is second to none, giving superior quality, tone and playability, and featuring a solid mahogany body in the style of the original legendary SG of the ’60s. It features a nitrocellulose finish, with Gibson's new nitro light gloss for the body and a nitro satin finish for the neck. It has a set neck, which is made of one piece of solid maple, with a slim-taper profile, topped with a genuine one-piece rosewood fingerboard. The body is crafted from solid mahogany for classic Gibson tones, and the guitar is loaded with completely new, modern, made-in-USA, Double Slugs Rhythm DS-C and Lead DS-C+ humbuckers for the absolute best value out there and amazing quality, tone and playability.

Comments about Gibson 2017 SG Fusion Electric Guitar:

An amazingly well crafted and exceptional value in an entry level USA built guitar! Very playable and attractive with a glossy black finish over a natural mahogany finish. The rosewood and maple neck looks great and is very comfortable to play. Gibson deserves a lot of credit for keeping production of no-frills versions of iconic models like the Les Paul and SG in the good ol USA!

Comments about Gibson 2017 SG Fusion Electric Guitar:

I could have been more disappointed with this guitar. I bought two other models from this entry-level line of Gibson's and found them to be decent units for the money, so I decided to pick up one of these SG Fusions. I certainly didn't expect a fine, top shelf machine in this SG, but I did expect something at least on the same level as the others from the line. The build quality was non-existent. The bridge posts gouged the bridge, the pickups were thin, the neck finish had thick, gloppy finger prints in it and the fretboard was so rough that it was totally unplayable. Several of the dot inlays were cracked off. I was amazingly let down with the quality control, and can't believe this one made it out of the factory. All Gibson guitars are shipped with a picture of it on the bench which means someone actually laid eyes on the guitar and let it pass anyway. Just because it's a low pricepoint instrument doesn't mean you deserve a low quality instrument. If you buy this, don't be surprised if you have to send it back and hope for better luck. Sorry to be a downer.

Wrap-around bridge may have missed the mark.

Comments about Gibson 2017 SG Fusion Electric Guitar:

For those of you that have wondered about the advantage (or coolness) of the wrap-around bridge. I submit, this Gibson misses the mark. Previous review is correct all strings must be loosened and the bridge removed to replace any, or all strings. I thought the bridge in this guitar would remove the complication of intonation by making the saddles part of the actual bridge. Although it dose remove the added TonePros extra position, its complicated removal of the bridge to replace strings is time consuming. I will be probably be looking to in the future, figure out how to modify this guitar to accept a TonePros saddle.

Change a string? Gonna take a while

      By The Frailer

      from Ft Walton Beach, Fl

Comments about Gibson 2017 SG Fusion Electric Guitar:

Seriously... who is going to want to get a guitar that you have to loosen all the strings when you need to put one on? Certainly not anyone who is working for a living. Honestly, if you get this, at some point, I have no doubt that you will modify this bridge setup. It's the most idiotic setup I've EVER seen. Bad, bad, bad design.

      Wrap around bridges are fine

      By Spike McGee

      About Me Experienced

Comments about Gibson 2017 SG Fusion Electric Guitar:

I am writing this review, admittedly, without having seen or played this model. I did, however, own an SG III for twenty years, which also had a wrap-around bridge. I never had to remove the bridge to change a single string, and when changing an entire set, I did so one at a time, so their was no problem. I found the wrap-around bridge to facilitate easy and quick string changes, even having done so on stage very rapidly. So, the reason for my rating is to raise the overall rating on this instrument, since the low rating is mainly due to complaints that a wrap-around bridge makes it difficult to change strings. From my own years of experience with a similar bridge, I know this is not true at all.

Comments about Gibson 2017 SG Fusion Electric Guitar:

Straight out of the box, the guitar I received was setup as well as other Gibsons I've purchased at double the price. The maple neck is super smooth and fast, not sticky at all like some lacquered SG's I've played. The biggest downfall of this guitar is that the finish looks like it was done with spray paint with a shiny clear coat over it, but it kind of adds to it's charm and I've grown to like it. The pickups are a little dull compared to 57 classics but they can be easily replaced if I get bored with them. It sounds as good as many Epiphones for sure. The mahogany body is a perfect weight for me and the set neck is a nice touch. All in all this is a cool US made guitar at a great price point. The retro looking pick guard is what sealed the deal for me too.
