I own it, and love it.It plays better and sounds better than my srv strat and L-5.
There is limited info on these, so I am submitting this review for your benefit. Since you can't hold one in your hands without buying one where ever you go, let me tell you what the stock version is like. My instructor, who is "extremely" knowledgable, asked to hold it on five occassions the first lesson I brought it. The action is excellent straight out of the box. The controls are super. The sound is like a new guitar, so maybe in ten years we can do another review on that. I love the larger, low profile body. It fits my lap better than the small bodies of solid bodies. If you want a guitar that is a working piece of art, this may be your thing. Everyone who sees this guitar says, "Wow!" Your friends will be jealous. A lot of others make this style, but I choose the Gibson because I wanted the best my bucks could buy. Honestly, my biggest fear is that someone is going to break into my house to rip it off. I play it unplugged half the time. The hollow body is great because you can just grab it and play like an acoustic. Without an amp, you get enough sound for yourself to hear what you are doing. This is my new baby.
This is one of the finest works of art Gibson has created in some time. For anyone looking for a fine semi-hallow body that compares to the 335 or the L5, this one does it with flying colors.
It's hard to describe. On paper, there are "better" guitars in this price range... but this one's got major vibe. The neck width and profile are perfect. The pickups are fat and rich with harmonics. Plug this bad boy into a nice tube amp and let waves of classic tone wash over you. Playing this guitar always puts me in a good mood.
I rated this item, mainly because i was shocked to see it's previous ratings. This is a class guitar all over; and it is a serious option for someone in the higher-end guitar market.
When I first bought this guitar it was in the dead of winter, and the guitar had to travel through a snowsotrm. When I received the guitar the neck was slightly warped, and it was a little hard to play. Shortly afterwards either the front or back pickup shorted out, so i sent it back and a new one was shipped to me. On this one I had to move the bridge a couple of centimeters to get it perfect, but afterwards it sounded and played great. I can plug it into a 67 Twin Reverb and you get a fabulous older tone thats great for rock or blues. I plug it into my peavy and switch to the front pickup and I can play jazz. Also it sounds great when playing strat stuff like John Mayer or SRV songs. This guitar is like combining an ES-335 with an L-5. IT IS TRULY A GREAT GUITAR. If you are looking for a Gibson in this price range purchase this guitar!!!!!
