A meticulously crafted re-creation of an American icon.

The Gibson Custom Shop 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar will revise your idea of how an electric guitar should feel and sound. Ted McCarty's Tune-O-Matic bridge with the designateion ABR-1 was added to the Les Paul in 1956. That, together with individual saddles and thumbwheels to adjust the bridge height, represented a quantum leap forward in intonation, tone, and sustain. This beautifully crafted reissue is a letter-perfect re-creation of that landmark model.

Gibson's Custom Shop produces some of the finest electric guitars on earth. Using the best materials money can buy, a staff of skilled luthiers reproduce some of the greatest Gibsons of the past and create stunning new instruments for players and collectors who demand the best.

I purchased this guitar for investment purposes but once I played it I really Loved it!! It looks like a true vintage Gibson and sounds really nice with the P-90 pickups. The model I bought was the VOS version so it has been aged in the Custom Shop and has a thin nitro finish. I highly recommend this guitar if you're looking for a great playing or investment guitar. I could not find even the smallest flaw on this guitar. This brings my total of guitars to 29!!!! Yeow!!! My wife's gonna kill me!!!

This is a great guitar, don't get me wrong. However, why pay the exorbitant price to get this guitar when you can get *practically the exact same thing* with the Epiphone LP '56 Gold Top?! The only notable differences are that this one is marginally prettier and the pickups are a little more high-class. Even so, spending a little extra cash getting better pickups put in the Epi is still *hundreds* cheaper than this rip-off. So, you sacrifice a little looks and the "Gibson" on the headstock. But still, I think your wallet has a say in the matter. Gibson needs to *seriously* stop WAY over-pricing its guitars.

Comments about Gibson Custom 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

I was lucky enough to have purchased a Gibson LP American Std Goldtop with P90s five years ago. So, other that the bumblebee caps, etc, I got close to the 56 reissue for half the price. The p90s are great. Another lead guitar player from another band has been lusting after my p90 goldtop Lester. But, I'm not selling, because I'd have to drop a lot more money on the 56 reissue to replace it. I may sell some other axes, but not this one. Great guitar.

    Well Worth It

    By SpaceyBen

Comments about Gibson Custom 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

I have been playing this guitar for a few months now and I am still loving every second with it. I got it because my main Telecaster was a bit too bright. If you like Teles but need a little darker fuller sound but the snarl and bite that you love then this guitar is for you. I plug it straight into a Tungsten Cortez and just by adjusting the pickup volumes I can get an amazing range of tones. Also remember that though it is expensive you are getting a custom shop instrument and if cared for properly it will last forever. I love this guitar so much that I am currently saving up for a second one or possibly the 54 Goldtop.

    Sweet Guitar

Comments about Gibson Custom 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

I recently played this baby. As soon as i picked it up i fell in love with it. It imediatly reminded me of the classic CCR songs such as Green River and Suzie Q. That may be because this is what John Fogerty plays on these songs. This guitar is awesome for that style. It's also a good country/rock guitar. I play in a regularly gigging band and we play mostlu country/rock and i am really thinking about buying one of these.

    Great Guitar, But...

    By MikeStatic1

Comments about Gibson Custom 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

... not great enough to warrant the price. This guitar is an icon, one I always wanted and finally purchased in 2006. The workmanship is fantastic, the feel and tone of the guitar are great. But... this is not a gig guitar. I purchased a '56 Epi Goldtop and upgraded the electronics so I could have one that I'd feel comfortable gigging with. If you are a collector, this is for you. I am not, I am a musician, and I just sold mine on eBay. Too expensive to gig with and risk damaging.

    What a great guitar!

    By Stephen A Burdi

Comments about Gibson Custom 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

First I must say how professional musicians friend is! It is my 1st purchase through them and it will not be my last. The guitar arrived quickly and in perfect shape. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is outstanding. Mine has very powerful P-90's that have a wide clear tones at low volumes but can push an amp into Elmore James type distortion when cranked up. This is my 3rd Gibson Custom Shop guitar and I am so happy to be buying Gibson as it is in one of its best periods ever.

Crystal clear bell-like tones through my TopHat!

    By EL84audio

Comments about Gibson Custom 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

This guitar is built extremely well. Mine has the limited Brazilian Rosewood Fretboard. The finish is absolutely flawless...You can even see a FANTASTIC tiger-flame maple top through the gold paint!! I am using Gibson vintage 11 guage strings and the sustain is amazing. Some people either hate or love the thickness of the neck on this guitar...I happen to love it! I play in a rock band and this guitar is perfect for it. The Gibson P-90's let me get that articulate yet raw tone along with high output unlike any other pickup.

Comments about Gibson Custom 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

Posessing a guitar like a '56 Goldtop will re-invent your views of what an electric should sound and feel like. If you want to experience pure tone and hear your own skill come though the amp, take on the challege of a '56 Goldtop and relish in its legendary mystique.

    Excellent Tone

    By Red7Rocks

    from Bartlett, IL

Comments about Gibson Custom 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

This guitar has excellent tone and is extremely resonant. You can feel the string vibrations from the neck thru the body, the guitar rings out natural harmonics, it really sounds great. The P-90's sound nothing like a humbucker, and nothing like a strat, they have their own unique voice. The guitar is great for blues and classic rock. I love the tone, the workanship is excellent. I gave it an 8 for features, because it's not the most versitile axe, but it is the best for dirty blues. The only upgrade I've made was to put Tonepro's locking studs in the tail stop. Regardless of what you may have heard about Gibson's price/quality you owe it to yourself to check this guitar out, the quality is on par with high end guitars like PRS (and I'm a big PRS fan).
