I have been playing LP's for the last 20+ years and I have never been totally satisfied with any of the new ones that I have owned and I certainly can't afford the going rates for real vintage pieces these days...enter the Gibson V.O.S 58 Les Paul Standard.I have been eyeing this guitar for many months;you know how you can just vibe off of the looks of a guitar and know it has to sound good? Well this guitar has the look. Long story short...I finally asked to play it, knowing that once I did, there was no way I would be able leave the store without it ( which is why I never asked before when I was in the store) and I have to say that Gibson nailed it with this one! From the first chord I hit; I heard a tone that I have only heard on my favorite albums such as Led Zepplin, Free, BB's Beano album, etc. The tone was warm and thick yet with a clear chime. I have never really heard this tone out of the newer LP's.The 50's rounded neck is to die for! I didn't feel like I was playing a ruler thin neck; It felt like I really had control of my playing but with little effort...even for barre chords. I don't think I will get cramps in my hand during a gig with this baby. Speaking of barre chords; I could play them just easy high up on the neck as I could in lower positions. The action is low and balanced but without a hint of fret buzz or loss of sustain ( which seemed to go on forever)Plain and simple; this is the real deal. Pricey? Yeah, but I feel this one is worth every penny of it. I will not want for another LP as long I have this one. If this one gets stolen, they will have to keep me in a induced coma for the rest of my life so I won't have to spend my days missing it.Again, the tone from this guitar tight,punchy,thick,warm,bell-like...and any other adjectives that you want add to the tonal description of a vintage guitar. You'll swear this LP actually is from the 50's with CTS pots and bumble bee caps. I am not good at writing reviews but if you have the bucks, try one of these gems out...you won't be able to walk away without buying it...be warned.

It's a Gibson

By GAS man-mNjhZ

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar:

The tone and finish on mine is great. But, out of the box it needed some fretwork. There are two areas on the neck that really buzz. And looking down the neck its easy to see how uneven some of the frets are. And the string spacing was terrible. I put new saddles on mine to fix the spacing. I have 2 other Gibson USA Les Pauls and the frets are level and string spacing is right on. I can't believe that this R8 is a "Custom Shop" guitar, and it needs a fret leveling on the first day. Aside from the fixable problems, the tone is really great. Thats why I still have it. And the finish is flawless. But for the price it should be a bit closer to perfect.

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar:

I always had a dream of meaty and clean tone cutting through overdrive like butter...i now have it!I play through a fuchs ODS 30 with which this thing is pure magic.Surprisingly quick for a larger fretboard and no issues for my medium sized hands. The tonal qualities change dramatically with use of volume knobs...so dont forget to explore.Fit and finish are top notch. I like the understated would grain and vintage stain.Since I have bought this guitar, im playing twice as much...call that invigoration.

Perfection

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar:

Well, to start things off, I have had this guitar for about two and a half years now and this pricey chunk of wood has never ceased to amaze me. The tone from this thing is perfect for ANY type of music, it's just a straight tone monster. The feel of this guitar is unlike any other I've played; the neck is nice and fat and may take a little getting used to, but your fingers run through the frets like butter. I have no complaints about the way this guitar plays or sounds and I GARAUNTEE you won't either, however, one of my inlays has started to come out of the fretboard. This is why I give the quality 4.5/5. Now, that should mean nothing because it is easily taken care of. You're purchasing a grade A Gibson Les Paul, you get every cent worth of your money from this thing. The resale value on Gibsons are incredible to begin with, let alone a custom shop Les Paul. The price has risen over a grand since I bought mine if that says anything. In the end, I believe this is Les Paul can stand up to those around 5-6k, making it the best you can get your hands on. A true masterpiece. Now go, try one, and be amazed.

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar:

I have played this guitar many a time, and it has been about the most playable guitar on the face of the earth. The only instrument that plays as close as good as this one is the 61 sg. It's the guitar that Page used for about 65% of his career and some of the world's best riffs have been written on these bad-boys. the chunky neck is more comfortable then hell and it feels like someone waxed it just before you played it!

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar:

I recently purchased this Les Paul from a friend for a very "reasonable" price and I can say now, having played it for several months that I would have paid him twice as much if he'd asked. The guitar is not only beautiful (mine has the washed cherry finish) but the playability is unmatched. The neck dimensions and profile are the best I've ever felt. I've had aches and pains in my hands for years but I can play this beauty for hours with no complaints. All in all this is the best guitar I've ever owned.....period.

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar:

It's a "Paul" so there are expectations before you even pick it up. It's my second Les and my favorite. Sounds good, feels good. It was almost perfect out of the case. I had a tech ajust the action to fit my tastes and that was it. Been rockin ever since. Plugged into a Marshall plexi and you understand the legend behind the late 50's Les Paul's.

Comments about Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar:

This is the best sounding, best playing guitar I have ever owned. For classic rock, blues, and possibly jazz (with a solid body) it can't be beat. I'd say the only thing this guitar isn't built for is metal, which it can still handle regardless! I play nearly every kind of music, and this baby can take it. From slow blues to sweep-picking. And I can't stress enough the beauty of this guitar; it's just stunning. The neck is butter. It fits your hands perfectly, even if you have small hands. I was used to slimmer necks, but the change is good!So do yourself a favor, and play this guitar, I guarantee you won't leave the store without it.

I love jimmy page, old Clapton, and early Beck. This guitar covers all. It can even do modern with the right settings on your amp. Cant say enough about the quality of this guitar. Just unbelievable.
