Hi Gang,I just got this thing and the neck is like a baseball bat. It has a better finish than other VOS-it's not so beat up-it's a gloss, not that aging crap with ruined bindings. Ya-it's hard to play-we all have been playing these skinny necks so long thata real neck feel very fat. But the sound-man-that is worth the fat neck. I also am found reviewing a 57custom on this site so I have to compare: The custom is thinner but sounds and plays fast. You can get Cream from a custom, but the Gold top has class. You can see where Mr. Paul was coming from with only a black and a gold offering. together you have the start of a collection. The GT has great sound but you will not be doing fast stuff. You should be doing the right stuff anyhow. With time I could see how one could adjust and become quick on the standard 57. But why bother, play it for sound-chords-double stops-simple stuff. It sounds great and you will not find it in some cheap copy. If you want the real thing lay out the bread and get something to be proud to own and play. The VOS series is the best thing to happen in a long time. I have two and will be getting a third-they are that good. Of course they are not cheap but when one is in your hands almost all other guitars are a distant second. Get one before they go up again or the series ends. These are players guitars, and they also go up in value. How many other guitars sell for more ten years from now? It's something to think about while you are playing the best made guitars avalible. I am not stupid and I am buying another. I suggest at the least have two: a black custom and a gold standard. You will be happy and have quality instruments. Or perhaps pieces of art. Mikestrat

Maybe the best Gibson ever made

By lonestarstrat

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

I can't even explain how much I'm in love with this guitar. I own a guitar store and am a professional musician. I have the world's best guitars in my collection and this one is hands-down the best. Better than any other LP I've ever seen, and I have some top-shelf LP's. From the smoothest of clean tones to the "vocal" overdriven tones, this guitar is IT. If I had to choose one guitar in my extensive collection, this would be it.Sorry, G&L, PRS, Fender, Ibanez, etc. You've met your match, and it's from the past. The '57 VOS just FEELS like something special and makes me a better player as a result. Yikes.

57 Gold Top Custom Shop

By Dave Joseph

from Palmdale, CA

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

Wow! Plugged this baby into my Fender "The Twin"amp and what a combination of "Sound". Can get that "Classic Rock", or just about any sound I want out of the duo. This my 5th Gibson "Custom Shop" guitar and now my favorite, though they all have their special qualities. I would say that this guitar is more then I expected and a keeper.

My favorite guitar

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

There's a reason they reissued this Les Paul. They got it right the first time. It's the perfect guitar. It sustains for days and it plays itself. I have over fifteen guitars and almost as many amps. Nothing comes close. The so called fat neck is the reason for the sustain and the tone. If you can swing the cash, it can be your one and only.

Head and Shoulders above a Standard

By Anonymous

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

While most usa gibsons I have owned have been of the highest quality and finish. This stands above all the others. It doesn't offer much over the other models of les pauls but what it does, it does better then the others! The custom shop does great work!I have owned custom shop Jacksons as well and while I feel they were as high as quality as this custom shop R7, this R7, rings and sustains unplugged BETTER than any of the 30 plus guitars I have owned over the years and I have owned about everything!Do not let the "fat neck" be a deciding factor. Having always owned slimmer necks, I find this neck to be one of if not the best playing necks I have ever owned. As far as value, I purshased this R7 and the same day as but prior to its price being raised $400! Keep it in good shape, its an investment as well as a musical instrument.

Goldy Locks Rocks!

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

I have one of these that's a little older, and it's worn down to the wood in some areas, or "distressed". I bought it because I'm a Slash Fan. Like Slash, I have two seymour duncan alnico II Humbuckes in it, but I run it through a Marshall 1959 reissue. I also use a Dunlop Cry Baby, Danelectro FAB tone, and a DOD chorus pedal with it. It's a true metal guitar.

The 57 goldtop is a rockin guitar

By graham colton

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

The 57 Les Paul Goldtop works wonders for me on and off stage. I've owned numerous i.e. SG's, teles strats, and a few other Gibson hollow bodies such as the 335. None quite measure up to my 57 goldtop. I absolutley adore it. If you have the money I would highly recommend purchasing this guitar.

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar with some custom tweaks from my uncle who worked in the Gibson custom shop, and I must say it's a beautiful sounding guitar and I can go from playing one style to something completely new with only a few knob tweaks. It's very beautiful-looking and it sounds like a dream. I love it.

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar, while looking at a new Slow Hand Strat. The Gold Top caught my eye, was sorry I sold my Les-Paul Classic Plus ten years ago. The 57 sounds great!!! quality was just what you would expect from Gibsons custom shop. I play this 57 threw a Mesa/Boogie 50 W/ tube, no need for a over drive stomp box! this guitar does it all!

Great

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

I just purchased this guitar, and overall it is very satisfying. for someone who has any sort of discriminating ear, the tone is exceptional. someone mentioned the setup, and i agree, setup was poor. I had to re-work the action and tweak just about everything a bit. Great guitar though.

overall nice but needed complete setup

By MusicMan31-OUgz6

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

The finish, tone/sound, and craftsmanship are excellent BUT needed a complete setup. The action was poorly setup and the frets were not level. I had to have a complete fret dressing done. That was the only downfall of this guitar. Evidentally this guitar was made on a Friday.

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

Custom shop quality is great EXCEPT for the setup. Unseated frets, unplayable action, had to send it to the guitar tech before I could play it. For the price it should have been setup better.

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

I own one, Great feel, great sound and I love the fat neck....only problem I have had is, the original Les Paul Decal was improperly placed. Somebody at Gibson painted over it with more black and put another on properly! You can see both of them in the correct light, finish could have been tighter....other than that I play the "H" out of it in my band in local bars 4 to 5 nights a month!!I plug it into a Fender ProSonic and two moded Tube Screamers...Blues Rock anything I want!!

The 57 pickups make this guitar great

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

I just purchased this guitar playing it through a Marshall AVT275 amp, and I was amazed at how great these pickups sound. I believe they are better than the burstbuckers. Much more realistic overdrive tone, and I know the fat neck is not for everybody, but I love it. I also added a Marshall 1960AV vintage cabinet to the AVT275 and that made every guitar I own sound many times better. But the gold top 57 Les Paul is head and shoulders above my Strat Plus, Amer. Tele, & my SG Special. I don't see any quality issues with mine, but then I did buy it at a music store so I could check it over carefully. But the sound I got through that Marshall set-up was even better than I expected. You will not be sorry with this purchase!

Incredible piece of work

By Blackie of Field of Grey

from Oakville, MO

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

I'm in a touring band called Field of Grey and I purchased this guitar in St. Louis about 6 months ago and I have to say, I have fallen in love with it. I also have a custom shop Fender Telesonic which rarely gets any stage time these days.I play through a Fender Prosonic, which gives me a classic blues tone and the Les Paul on top of that adds a fat rock crunch so I get the best of both worlds. Ever since I've started playing this guitar live, several people have complimented my tone. ROCK ON!!!

Comments about Gibson Custom '57 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Electric Guitar:

I have been playing for over 40 years and this is my first Gibson. I waited too long- it's beautiful in all respects! I have tried it through several classic amps and couldn't be happier. Now I just have to pry it from my son's hands plus get used to that shorter scale!
