Gibson Custom

Humbucker, single-coil, and acoustic tones along with Floyd Rose trem, highlight this progressive rock guitar.

Created through extensive work with Alex, this new model incorporates the Graphtech™ Ghost®-equipped Floyd Rose® licensed tremolo and newly designed output circuitry that offers unprecedented signal routing (via "Regular" output jack and/or "Life-O-Sound" output jack) and tonal shaping flexibility (via push/pull pots) that make full use of the guitar's complete pickup arsenal consisting of piezo and 496R ceramic-magnet neck humbucker and 498T Alnico V bridge humbucker.

To give the Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess the best possible foundation, Gibson Custom works with premium woods that are selected for their sublime look as well as their superior resonant qualities. The two-piece top is carved from beautifully figured maple, and joined to a solid, one-piece mahogany back. This classic combination presents all the depth and richness married to lively snap and bite that Les Pauls have been known for six decades.

A quarter-sawn mahogany neck is joined to the body with a glued-in long-tenon joint, and topped with a traditional rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets and acrylic trapezoid inlays, just the way it's been done since 1952. Kluson-style tuners with pearloid keystone buttons add to the vintage vibe at the headstock end, but down south the electronics and hardware take this guitar into another millennium.

In addition to its traditional Les Paul tonewoods, the Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess carries two high-output humbucking pickups with series/parallel wiring options via its push-pull volume controls series/parallel options on its push-pull volume controls, and a Floyd Rose® licensed unit that not only provides the world's most efficient vibrato system, but is also loaded with GraphTech™ Ghost® piezo bridge saddles. Access traditional Gibson magnetic humbucker tones, mix it up with fat and funky series/parallel options, tap the Ghost's® realistic acoustic tones, or blend acoustic and magnetic voices—the sky's the limit from this sonic chameleon, whose sound-shifting depths are virtually limitless. What's more, you can route it all through a traditional mono jack (labeled "Regular") using a single guitar cable, or use two cables to split your sonic trickery off into separate output paths using the "Regular" and the "Life-O-Sound" output jacks together. All this, and the Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess still presents that timeless Les Paul look that has remained a classic for more than 50 years, in your choice of two stunning colors—Viceroy Brown and Royal Crimson—both approved by the artist himself, and both resplendent atop a stunningly figured maple top.

Since the mid-1970s, Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson has personified the consummate rock innovator--a sonic adventurer capable of producing mind-blowing power chords and dizzying arpeggios alike, ultimately sculpting them into huge, rich melodies and ingenious arrangements.

Lifeson Axcess in Viceroy Brown

Features:

I bought this used from MF about 2 months ago. First off I got a great deal, and the way they graded the useage on this guitar was very generous to the buyer. This guitar had a few very minor flaws and in fact probably only one of them is noticeable at all . As for the Guitar it is awesome the fit and finish are very hi quality and it is very comfortable .From the thinner body and contour to the neck joint and the neck profile it is all there. The flame top on mine is beautiful with full flame from edge to edge. The tone is great I like the sound of this over my studio and my classic and my brothers classic antique. The floyd bridge stays in tune well and is at a comfortable position to rest your palm on. The coil tapping feature is fabulous and opens up a whole new world of sound . One of my favorites is the neck pu in single coil with the piezo mixed in at half volume . This produces a very nice clean acoustic chimey sound. The bridge pu in hum mode is classic LP very nice . For those who say a LP with a floyd lacks sustain think again and try this one out. The only two things I would like better is if the floyd was not flaoting,I may look into blocking it but the piezo wires are in the way. Also I wish Gibson could come up with a better finish for the back of the neck. The back of the neck gets sticky (all LP do this ) maybe a flat finish on the back of the neck would help this .

Quality:

Like I said fit and finsh are great but could be better. Like where the binding meets the body could be dressed better. The joint can be felt with my finger as well as the neck to body joint.

Value:

MF rules. Great deal and free overnight shipping on this one sealed the deal.

Overall:

I am very pleased with this one and in fact I am looking at getting a axcess custom.

A bit pricey but a great deal can be had on a gently used one .

True work of art.... I have number 30 off the line. have been life long Alex fan but It does not matter if his name is on this, it still is one awesome guitar! yes you pay more for it but I got mine at a good price for the particular one I got. this is my first Les and I'm 42 now, and I can clearly see what I have been missing! what an awakening! The intonation is so spot on that I wan't to junk my other guitars now! from the sound to playability for me is truly a factor for inspiration......don't pay more for other customs this is all you will need in a Gibson I bet.....I really can't say to much about this instrument! Thanks for a premo rock guitar Gibson, just start putting stainless frets on all your high end guitars so we really can get the best guitars off the line from you.

This is a wonderful guitar and if you can afford it, it's a must own. I am already looking to buy another in Crimson. I used to think a Floyd Rose on a Les Paul was sacrilegious but this has proved me wrong. It's everything thrown into one guitar with awesome tone to boot!

The neck is so welcoming on this that it is the easiest Les Paul I've ever played and I currently have a 58 reissue, Trad Pro and a Beano. Wonderful sculpting and flame make this instantly attractive and the ability to split the coils give you ultimate diversity in playing. The piezo added gives that Lifeson sound that instantly brings smiles.

Wonderful fit and finish. My wife is not a guitar player but she is amazed at it's beauty. It's solidly built with great weight to it so it feels like a true Les Paul.

With the Les Paul Axcess standard retailing a little less than this one is offered at, you get a lot of upgrades for the extra money. The addition of the piezo, splitting pick-ups, custom shop quality and the Life-o-sound jack make this an easy sell.

I'm a Lifelong Lifeson fan, if Alex says it is good I instantly believe him, the Les Paul has such a chunky, detailed sound, I have tried it against the PRSs and the MusicMans and other dual Hbucker axes and it always comes out ahead. The Floyd Rose is a no brainer, I have a Kahler on my 80's Explorer and it is very tempermental, could be its age, I had it installed in 83. Lifeson has done as much or more to pioneer rock & Roll with his Gibson's than anyone, I was completely stoked when he put down his PRS. PRS is a Lexus and a real man wants a musclecar. Bravo Alex!

The Most Awesome Sound

I just got my Signed #36 from MF and I can't stop playing it. It is by far the most awesome sounding, easiest playing Les Paul I have ever played and now have! The sound that comes out of this thing is amazing. The notes ring clear and sustain for ever, even if you play it un-plugged. The acoustic sound that the Graph Tech Floyd Rose puts out is beautiful and when you combine it with the magnetic pickups it turns it into a FIre Breathing Beast when you run it through your Gain Channel. When you play it  clean it sounds like you're in heaven. WOW is all I can say... Thank You Alex for envisioning and Gibson for bringing this guitar to life. This is basically what I have been wanting to be able to do with my guitars all my life.
