The Future Past

Features:

The lack of "Features" is one of the things that make the Les Paul Custom a great guitar. I own other guitars that have that stuff on them (like tremolos that are difficult to keep in tune). The best "Features" of this guitar are playability and tone. The feel of the ebony fretboard is top shelf and the notes come off of it warm and silky. Don't let the whiners that go on about the guitar being heavy sway you from purchasing this guitar. You can adapt to the weight. The first time you hear your leads soaring above the mix, you'll forget about the weight.

Quality:

The feel of this guitar smacks of quality. The finish is perfect. The overall workmanship is flawless. The electronics are absolutely silent and the pickups simply scream. The local tech that changed the guitar over to my gauge (comes equipped with 10s) said none of his LPs sounded as good.

Value:

This is not a bargain bin item, folks. Honestly, I had to sell a couple of my others to help pay for this but I don't regret that at all. I knew what I was getting.

Overall:

The Gibson Les Paul Custom is a professional grade tool. I am not a collector. I buy guitars to play not to look at. I owned a LP Custom in the 70s and early 80s and lost it (long story). I bought this one knowing what to expect and those expectations were exceeded! This guitar may be the only one any player could ever need. Tone, feel, playability, and high quality workmanship NEVER go out of style.

I own 3 LesPaul Customs, a 1981, a 1997 and a 2009 CS. I bought the 2009 new a week after playing a friend's CS 2010 he just received for Christmas. The build quality of these guitars is very impressive, much better than my 81 and on par with my 97 but with a dead flat neck and better neck profile. I usually replace the pickups with SD but this CS LesPaul Custom roared through my rig and had that signature tone I was searching for. Beautiful ebony fingerboard, perfectly dressed frets, perfect binding everywhere! You get what you pay for with these guitars. A work of art that can inspire you when you play it.

Great Guitar, Bad Neck Construction

I have had my LP Custom for about 5 years. It is by far the nicest guitar I have ever played in my life. However there are a few setbacks that seem to be very, very, very common among Les Pauls. 1. The neck design is awful, many crack or snap. (it cost me a lot to get mine fixed) And 2. It is EXTREMELY heavy. But besides those problems it is an amazing guitar and sounds phenomenal.

when i got this guitar i thought "WOW i cant believe i paid $4000 for a axe !"  but when i played it more and more i saw why the cost is so high... this thing is one of the best i have ever played!  i read a comment from another buyer that said he had problems with his guitar goin out of tune.... i assure you i have no such problem with this beast!  it is VERY,VERY HEAVY  that may be a downside to long stage gigs , but this thing has sustain for days.and the tone is warm and bright. if you have the $$$  get this... you wont regret it..
