I bought this guitar a year ago. It just keeps sounding better and better. It's got the craftsmanship of a true Gibson legend. The tone is incredible. The 3 pickups give it so much more fatness and range than a standard SG. It literally sounds like the hammer of the gods coming through my 2 8x10 vintage Marshall tall-boy cabs. I run it with a 100 Watt Marshall Plexi and a 100 Watt Mesa Boogie. I tried out my 62 Fender Jazzmaster Reissue against this guitar. While the Jazzmaster has nice tone, it simply cannot compete with the sheer massivity of the overtones coming from the SG Custom. I've also compared other SG's to the custom and they simply can't touch it.That, and whenever I pull the thing outta the case, half the musicians in the crowd have a damn aneurism once they see the gold harware and genuine Gibson name at the top of the headstock. It's a rock star guitar. With a rock star sound, for rockstars...or those of us who just wish we could be one for 40 minutes of our Saturday nights.
I own this and a Gibson Firebird VII Reissue. I love them both. Here's what I love about the SG Custom Reissue. First off, its just incredible to look at. The cream against the gold harware is amazing. THe tone is to die for...NO band we have ever played with has EVER had a better soundign guitar than this one. Players come up to me after hsows and tell me they've never heard a better sounding instrument. The dynamic between switch positions 1, 2 and 3 is amazing. You can go from cutting trebbly leads to deep Stevie Ray-esque fat bottom ended growls just by mixing up the pickups. It's like the selectability of a strat, but w/ 3 positions and more pick-up combo options. The neck is the fastest I've ever played and the balance of the guitar is incredible too. This is the REAL DEAL. I'm a lefty too, and honestly, this and the Firebird VII will be my 2 axes of choise for the rest of my life. I've never played a better instrument; Fender, Ibanez, PRS...none of them compare to the tone and looks of this baby.
