The Custom Shop goes Wylde!

In a tribute to his scorching riffs and remarkable stage presence, Gibson honors one of heavy metal's premier lead guitarists with the Zakk Wylde Signature Les Paul Electric Guitar. It features Wylde's trademark black-and-antique-white bull's-eye graphics; powerful EMG humbucking pickups (an 81 and 85); and an oiled, raw maple neck. The LP body has a 1-piece mahogany back with carved maple top; an ebony fretboard with pearl block inlay; gold hardware including an engraved gold truss-rod cover with Zakk Wylde logo; multi-ply binding on top, back, neck, and peghead. A gorgeous guitar and capable of doing serious sonic damage. Gibson includes a hardshell case with the Custom Shop Zakk Wylde Les Paul Guitar.

Gibson's Custom Shop produces some of the finest electric guitars on earth. Using the best materials money can buy, a staff of skilled luthiers reproduce some of the greatest Gibsons of the past and create stunning new instruments for players and collectors who demand the best.

The guitar looks great. And, if you won the lottery and have a spare 5k, it might be a good purchase, given you like BLS. Every experienced player knows that you can stick an EMG 81/85 set to a piece of cardboard and get the same tone. So I can't figure out why people keep buying such expensive guitars with EMG's. And don't get me wrong, they are great guitars, PRS, Gibson, even the Epis. But the active electronics just take the wood out of the equation. I like to parts-swapping on my guitars, and I did get the same tone from an Epi Les Paul Studio with EMG's

Absolutely hits the mark

This guitar is amazing in all aspects. It has the craftsmanship, the durability, the feel, and the sound. It's not ridiculously pretentious to say that you can FEEL the difference between picking this up versus an Epiphone or even a standard Gibson. While not the most versatile guitar, this thing nails metal and hard rock perfectly. Paired with a dirty amp and a signal boost, this thing absolutely wails. The harmonics and sustain in this guitar are almost unparalleled. The neck is the true revelation, though. It's a raw (but oiled or coated in something very, very light) maple in between the 50s and 60s profile, that seems tailor made for easy playing. I threw a set of GHS GBTNT .10-.52 strings and set it up and it holds tune better than my Les Paul Standard and just sounds amazing. This guitar really is the real deal. $4,000-plus is steep and it's honestly not worth it to most (I had to sell a couple of  guitars), but just playing it for five minutes quelled any possible buyer's remorse.

In the case of the gibson zakk wylde signature les paul, all you are paying for is the signature.  My friend owns one and when i play it it doesn't feel like a guitar worth this much.  I own a fake les paul that ice customized with a bigsby, emg active pickups and grovers.  IT has the same quality , sound and feel as the gibson but mine cost me only about $800  when i was done customizing.  If you have to have the zakk wyld sig. on your guitar, buy the epiphone version and do some fine tuning and modifications then you will have a guitar as good as the gibson for a fraction of the price.
