I knew the guitars reputation before my purchase its biting sound and raw in your face power The guitar is like no other the problem is I had to return one that had a broken tuner and the second one I recieved had a crack in the pic gaurd along with the nut needing adjustment by a guitar tech I question Gibsons system of checking what they ship out after all this is no cheap guitar you would think they might be a bit more concerned with the finish product they are sending out.I will say Musicians friend took care of me promptly on the issues I had with this guitar they are a Top notch company to deal with The guitar plays incredible now also own a 59 reissue Les Paul,57 FenderStrat Gibson SG,Warrior Isabella Rick derringers personal guitar #31and several other guitars of all this Firebird seems to have the most in your face power

This guitar is vintage sunburst. Its beautiful just like the 1963 model I owned. It was made for the Blues or Rock. Sounds great for jazz, country, or even Surfin'. It is a big guitar but weighs about the same as my SG Special. Make sure you put strap locks on it and be careful of stands because the neck and body are one piece. Its a real Gibson with hot pickups and wonderful sustain. Buy it!

I don't write reviews. Having owned around 45 Guitars...This Firebird is worth my time to write a review. Right out of the box, and hard case. It was in tune...no setup required and ready to soar to new heights as I ran my fingers up and down that buttery, perfectly finished neck. And....the tone....Tone, Baby Tone. Buy one !!!

When I first got this guitar in April 2012, I was bemused by it. It's really long head to toe, yet very light. The tuning system is unlike anything else, at first a bit weird. And you have to be more conscious of walking around with the Firebird because the headstock is much farther out there to the left than, say, a Les Paul or Strat. That said, I loved immediately the sound of the mini-humbuckers through my small Vox, Fender, and Marshall amps maxed, managing the overall volumes via the guitar. The set-up on it wasn't great, so I changed strings to mediums, lowered the action and corrected the intonation. That's when I started struggling with it. With the mediums, I couldn't get the action as low as I like without massive buzzing, so more often than not, it sat in its stand while I played my other guitars instead. It wasn't a problem with the guitar so much as my choice of strings. The Firebird does not like medium or heavy gauge strings. I changed back to lights about two months ago and now I'm back to loving this guitar. It's very versatile, lovely to play, and every single position on the neck is so easy to reach, no matter where you are. And the sound is great. You can play it big and brawny or you can mute it down a bit without losing its characteristic sound- think EC with Cream playing Crossroads or Johnny Winter playing his sit-down version of Key to the Highway. A really great guitar... just play it with lights.

I bought this guitar in vintage sunburst a while back from the Guitar Center in Orange, Connecticut (great folks to deal with by the way). In my guitar collection of a dozen pieces, it ranks among the top. I don't play anything that can be defined as "modest" in price. I am a blues guitarist with 40 years of playing under my belt and in my own opinion, the Firebird ranks as the one of the finest blues / rock guitars ever manufactured. This guitar is not for everyone, in fact, it is quite genre specific. The Firebird has a stunning legacy. Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Johnny Winter, Brian Jones (The Stones), Eric Clapton (during his "Cream" days), Phil Manzanera (Roxy Music), Warren Haynes (Government Mule, Allman Bros.), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Mick Taylor (The Stones), Ron Wood (The Stones), and Joe Perry (Aerosmith), were all disciples of the venerable Firebird. And let us not forget the memorable outrance solo to Skynard's "Free Bird" performed so brilliantly by Alan Collins on his Gibson Firebird. Its full biting tone carved an unforgettable niche into the annals of Blues, Southern Rock, and Rock and Roll. It's pure Americana.

Ah...
Eventually this guitar had to make into my room. What a wonderful piece of musical invention. I know it is only blues and rock and roll, but I understand why Brian Jones, Johnny Winter, and Ron Wood chose this guitar. Its first striking element is the beauty of shape. Sure, it takes time to appreciate uniqueness of shape in guitars, but once your eyes finally understand its identity, appreciation turns to awe.
The second characterist is its weight. It is very light. I am not an expert in woods, but the lightness of materials makes this the guitar to play for lengths of time. The creaminess of its warm pick-ups and the rapidity of the neck makes your fingers want to run... and I am far from being a great guitar player. Thank you Gibson.

Unique appearance and features. Sounds great, plays smoothly. Great axe.
Bought the new Gibson Firebird. I had to wait several months. Well worth the wait. I have PRS, Gibson ES and Lesters, etc. The Firebird is unique. It is very light, like an SG, but doesn't have as much neck dive as the SG. I won't have a sore shoulder after a long gig with this, the way I do after throwing a Lester around for three hours. The pups on the Firebird are unique, as well. The gearless 40-1 ratio banjo style tuners will take some getting used to, but I look forward to playing this for quite some time. I just wish it would have been available with the Maestro whammy.
So, unique shape, light weight, unique pickups, neck through body, very different tuners, beautiful finish. Nothing else has this combination of features.....nothing. My guitar tech is a real Firebird freak. Now, I know why. Sign me up.
Everything on the guitar was solid and well finished. Neck was smooth, frets were well dressed.
Everything is relative. There are cheaper guitars, particularly those made outside the US. But, for a quality US made set neck quitar with great electronics and hardware, the Firebird is a real value.

I got this guitar used a couple months ago, and it sounds great no matter what you throw at it. The mini humbucker pickups are amazing with a nice crunchy bridge pickup, a warm neck pickup and a nice blend when you use both. Its a little awkward to play for the first couple times because the body is so long and it feels like youre playing really far up on the guitar but you get used to it. The tuners are amazing and probaby one of my favourite parts of the guitar since its so unique, and is super accurate for tuning. This guitar sings even when unplugged and if it where to be stolen i would buy another in a heartbeat. you wont be dissappointed if you get one.

Its a great guitar, It has the sound thats in between a Humbucker and a P90. The Case it came in looks all good, but man is it BIG. Its by far One of the lightest Guitars i own. The Reason the Quality got a 4 is because The first few frets are horrible and it needs a good set up. the Finish was great, but overall this guitar should only cost 1500, but it was still worth EVERY penny at the price.
