I purchased the Zebrawood Firebird V a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier. Music has been a full-time hobby of mine for over 20 years, playing, buying/selling/trading, and repairing instruments. The craftsmanship was everything you expect from Gibson. The sound is amazing. My band, Honeybomb, plays a huge mix of styles and I need an ax that's as versatile as the music. Furthermore, I want a guitar that can give me versatility without using pedals. This is definitely it. I plug and play using either an old Tubeworks Tubedriver combo amp with EV speaker, Fyrebottle boutique amp, or an Ampeg Reverberocket reissue. Full, clean blues-got it, clean country quack-got it, edgy Texas blues-got it, classic rock-got it, rip your face off hard rock-got it, snappy fingerstyle with wonderful attack response-got it. I highly recommend this guitar, irregardless of the style you play.
Got my Gibson Firebird V zebrawood wings this afternoon- WOW! The neck is wide and flat, similar to an older Ibanez I've been playing for 13 years. The mini-humbuckers rock! The neck position 'bucker is really Straty sounding. In the middle position it has a little less bass and depth but sounds great. The bridge 'buck, when ran on my Mesa Dual Recectifier's modern distortion channel, has crunch but not so much that it makes it sound too muddy. The intonation is perfect and I found only 1 minor thing- one of the screws holding the G string banjo turner was not screwed in completely. A few turns of a small Phillips headed driver and it was fine. I love the action and accessibility on the neck. It sounds blues/country twangy on my clean channel and dirty blues/60's rock on the distortion channel. My only regret is not owning one years ago...also the price is a bit heafty but all good quality American guitars are. I own a few other guitars, including a Gibson Les Paul Studio Lite, and would urge you to consider playing a Firebird V before shelling out your money.
This is one awesome guitar. The construction and quality is top notch. The pickups sound incredible and the setup was perfect from the factory. Plays like butter! The zebrawood makes this axe look great! This is a limited production so get it while you can and you won't be sorry.
