You can pay more for 'prettier' Gibsons, but you can't get a better sound. Sounds just the same as multi-thousand dollar more gibsons. My only negative comment is on the lining of the case, which became detached quite easily. Now I have to be very careful when I put it away to keep the adhesive from comming in contact with the guitar. If you want to sound like Gilmore playing 'wish you were here' this is your guitar. The strings are very easy to bend due to the 24&3/4 scale. A little *too* easy to bend while playing chords, so get yourself a D28 for that :-)And get yourself a Meguiar's care kit - the acid in sweat will ruin *any* nitro finish!!!I clean mine *every time* I use it with a micro fibre cloth and Meguiar's 'mist and wipe'. I wax it every time I change strings, which is every 30 days and the finish is in flawless condition, even after being subjected to my sweaty uncovered arms. The Gibson strings that come with it are the best sounding. I've tried several other brands and don't get the "ahhhhhh" sound I'm looking for unless I use the strings specifically designed for Gibson Jumbo's.Truly this guitar is Black Gold...

Bought this axe in 2002 and like many other owners found the action high. A trip to my guitar tech - problem solved, nice axe acoustically, plays like a dream now. The electronics leave alot to be desired. Not what they claim to sound like "plugged in" not to mention an annoying ground hum even with using high quality cables, or any cable for that matter. If they are going to cut a hole in such a beautiful instrument they really should put in a better pickup.

Smells Good Too...

By FaST StRAT

from Galt, CA

It was time in my career to buy a world-class guitar. I went to Sacramento and played all the top of the line guitars. I was intent on paying whatever I needed to get the absolute best. I put the top 5 guitars side by side and strumed 'em and clearly the Gibson J-185EC was the best tone and best overall. I play and Fender Eric Clapton Strat. daily but when I get the Gibson out often it's so clear and strong and one last thing... is smells good too. People tell me it would be a good humidor for my cigars.

Absolutely Stunning!!

By The Gibsonian

This guitar is absolutely STUNNING!! I owned a $2,700 J-185 EC and had to sell it. I bought this guitar a few months later and I'll tell you what. This guitar sounds and plays just as good if no better than the J-185 EC which costs over $1,000 more! Some folks say it's a little quiet unplugged. I think it sounds perfect with vocals. Bottom line... This guitar is worth every penny! Buy it! You will be glad you did!

Outstanding sound and looks

By Stalker-JmVmT

from Hugo, OK

I bought this guitar about 5 yrs ago and haven't been sorry of it for a minute. This guitar has outstanding sound coupled with gorgeous looks, and teamed with Fender's Acoustasonic amps delivers unequaled rich, full notes. I would recommend this guitar to anyone who is serios about owning an acoustic-electric.

Gibson J-180EC

By Gibsonian

from Nevada

I have wanted a J-180EC since the first time I saw it in a catalog. I blew off getting an Antelope mounted, work done on my truck, and work done on my motorcycle to buy it. I don't regret it. It is an amazing guitar. The sound is phenominal. It is a little bit quieter than most acoustics when it isn't plugged in, but still sounds amazing. When it is plugged in it is crisp and clear. I have never had a guitar that has come close to the quality of this one. The one bad thing, which is why I marked it down, is because I played it one day without long sleeves, and the paint started to react to it. Like if you were to breathe on it when it is really cold, that is what it looks like, and it is permanent. But I still wouldn't trade it for anything. It is still georgeous. I am picky when it come to guitars, and I love it. So, if you are even considering this guitar, you would be smart to buy it.

Great

By Moi

from Austin, TX

I bought this guitar a few months ago. It is awesome as an acoustic/electric guitar. It is not that great as a straight acoustic. It is not that loud really but it is easier to play then other acoustics I have played. When it is plugged into my tube amp, it sounds amazing. It would probably sound even better plugged into an acoustic amp. I have not tried yet. The controls on it enable you to enhance the sound to your liking. I have recorded with it and like the results a lot. Overall I am happy with the purchase. However if you are looking for a straight acoustic, I would buy something else.

There were only two things abouth this guitar that i wish could be addressed by Gibson. 1ST Was the truss rod had to be loosened all the way to fix the action. it can not be adjusted any more and that was right when I got it.2nd was the finish had flaws in it.but overall i love this guitar.

Great sound at an affordable price

By Danimal-Ev9lN

from Woodridge, IL

I bought this guitar as an alternate to my Alveraz's. After playing it for a week, I don't think I'll play my Alveraz's again. I'll probably just set them up as alternate tunings for certain songs. The Gibson has great action, and sound great. I bang on it all the time now. By far the best guitar purchase I've made so far.

Gotta love it

By ava 50

I have owned and played many guitars in my 50 yrs and this one ranks right up there with the best. Quality of the finish was perfect and the playability was great right from the get go. I can't stop playing this thing! This is a great complement to my PRS electric.
