A Les Paul with unparalleled upper-fret access, chambered mahogany body, and P-90 pickups.

From the time of its release in 1998, the Gibson Les Paul DC Standard has satisfied the countless players who had long demanded a contemporary-styled, double-cutaway Les Paul that also retained the long tradition of Gibson's most legendary solid body electric. The Les Paul Double Cutaway P-90 celebrates this popular model in a limited-edition guitar with special appointments. This limited run of instruments is available in three finishes: ebony, bullion gold and classic white with a dark back and neck.

The Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway's body woods present a combination of good clarity, definition and treble bite from the maple, and excellent depth and richness from the mahogany, all of which are elements that are found in the classic Les Paul Standard tone. This Gibson Les Paul guitar is crafted from a two-piece maple top and a chambered mahogany body. This wood combination, one of the most legendary pairs in the history of the solid and semi-solid electric guitar, yields a "best of both worlds" tonal splendor, while also producing a classic look and a sturdy instrument. The chambering adds a further dimension, increasing the complexity of this guitar's tone, while also increasing its acoustic volume and sustain.

The neck of the Les Paul Double Cutaway is constructed from one solid piece of Grade-C mahogany, cut using the superior "quarter sawn" orientation for improved strength and resonance. This neck is carved to Gibson's slim-taper '60s profile, which offers a fast, comfortable playing feel. It is carefully angled at Gibson's traditional 17 degrees, which increases pressure on the strings and helps them stay in the nut slots. The Gibson logo is inlaid in mother of pearl across the top of the headstock face with "Les Paul Model" silkscreened in gold along the center of the headstock.

The Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway sports 22 jumbo frets on a rosewood fingerboard that is adorned with acrylic trapezoidal inlays. The 12-inch radius or this fingerboard provides smooth note bending capabilities and eliminates "dead" or "choked out" notes. The headstock of the Les Paul Double Cutaway is equipped with vintage-style tuners with pearloid tulip buttons. These tuners provide a classic look in line with the Gibson guitar's lineage, and smooth, robust performance.

This Les Paul Double Cutaway is equipped with dual Gibson P-90 pickups that offer a snappy, slightly gritty response, with a chunky midrange, firm lows, and sweet, musical highs. The P-90 was the standard pickup on all Gibson guitars in the late 1940s and into the 1950s and because of its crisp, bright tone it has experienced resurgence in popularity with many of today's modern rockers. In the bridge position, the P-90 packs plenty of snarly cutting power, while in the neck position it can be surprisingly rich and refined. You'll find that the P-90s' high output and biting treble has more nuanced harmonic coloring than the typical single-coil pickup.

A Gibson Tune-O-Matic bridge provides a firm seating for the strings, allowing the player to adjust and fine-tune the intonation and string height in a matter of minutes. It also yields excellent coupling between strings and body, maximizing resonance, tone, and sustain. A separate "stopbar" tailpiece, which is designed to further enhance the connection between the strings and the body.

The Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway comes protected in black hardshell Gibson guitar case.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway P-90 Electric Guitar:

It's an awesome guitar. If your thinking about it just jump out and do it. Remember the pick ups are gonna sound brighter so if your rig is set up for Humbuckers you'll want to make some changes but when you do, WOW!
It has what it needs. I am a fan of dual volume and tone controls but it didn't stop me from buying it.
It's a Gibson Standard. If you have never owned one get one and you'll hear the difference. The wood rings forever. P90's are sweet with a good bite but yet still creamy. Very nice. Volume knob responds well as it should cleans up really nice when backed down.
They have these selling for $1500 right now. That is a great value for the amount of quality you get here. In my opinion $2000 is a great value for this guitar. I own several high qualty guitars and this one is no exception. If you've ever wondered about the differenes between a Studio and a Standard, here it is. Wood Quality. That's it. It makes for a sweeter tone, better sustain and overall better instrument. Finish and electronics are just as good on a Studio but you can't beat what a nice piece of wood can do.

Another jewel for my collection !

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway P-90 Electric Guitar:

If you can find this less than $1200 OK but any higher I don't know if its worth over that price ?? Plus mine came with a Gibson "Gear" HSC that the owner hid with a Sharpie ?? But also had chrome covers (plastic) for the pickups. I adjusted the pole pieces up closer to the strings and that really opened up the tone. Fun to play and nice sounding & looking and its a USA Gibson ! 8 for overall but I'de still say GET ONE !
Only thing I dislike (a little) about this guitar is the pickups could be hotter for me. I just got a Duncan SP9 I'm gonna try out in it. It's a beauty to stare at on my guitar stand. 8 for features thanks to crappy tuners.
Quality is ok, didn't find any flaws or playing issues like the previous reviewer. The neck feels great and after adjusting to my taste this will be in my possesion for a long, long time. 9 for quaility after finding the pickup adjusting threaded insert under the pickups loose and one was out of its hole not doing its job.
Got mine on a trade in

    Different Strokes for Different Folks

    By Will Work For Tone

    from Central Coast California

    Ask me a question

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway P-90 Electric Guitar:

I have many Gibson's. I have a few Les Pauls, one of them being a VOS 59. This is right up there with the best of them. I love the look and the the guitar has tone for day's. I realize that all of this is subjective. A guitar that is great for one player doesn't always work for another. Truly it is a matter of Different Strokes for Different Folks.
A different twust on the standard Les Paul. I have 3 Standard LP's. This one is definately unique. The double cutaway makes it very easy to play. The chambered body makes it light and resonant. The P90's are nice sounding a very musical combination.A beautiful guitar to look at and joy to play. A very sweet guitar overall.
The quality of my guitar is outstanding. I have a hard time beleiving that this guitar is poor quality. Every brand has a bad guitar from time to time. I can only speak about the one I purchased. This guitar does veer from the traditional LP set up regarding tone and volume controls. That may be an issue for some players. I find a well built guitar like this one is touch sensitive and the control I need is from my attack. This guitar is a well rounded performer and it sings in the hands of skilled players. The set up is perfect, all I had to do was tune it and play.
I bought this one on the MF Stupid Deal. Nobody can beleive the deal we got on this guitar. My brother bought one also. He was a skeptic until he received it. Now he is a beleiver.

    Pleasure to Play

    By Nickname

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway P-90 Electric Guitar:

The sound is very unique and I will find a place for it. I couldn't "replace" my humbucker Les Paul with this one, but it is a keeper. I would use it for blues and some kinds of rock. More modern heavy rock it might not be the best choice, but it would definitely work. I wish they would have left the back and neck natural instead of solid black, but that's an aesthetic choice. Like I said earlier, it's just so easy to play! I can't point to one thing, probably just the combination of all the precision elements. I'm not sensitive to weight, but the chamering definitely takes off some pounds. I would love to A/B solid vs. chambered.

I don't know if I will own this one for a long or short while, but I know I will have fun playing it while it's in my posession.
The one I received doesn't have any quality issues that I can find. The action might be a tick low (nut) as it's almost buzzing in between the nut and fretted notes, but that doesn't concern me too much right now. Tuners are solid, finish is perfect. The p-90s sound amazing through a nice tube amp. Neck PU is a little treble lacking (even with it cranked on my amp), but still a good sound. Bridge PU cleans nicely by rolling off the volume pot. Dirty chords are clear and heavy at the same time, nice. Overall just VERY easy to play.
Well I got a greatdeal, so my perspective is a little different. For me the value is out of this world! When I look at getting a Les Paul Studio in the same ballpark, this stands out as a superb value to me, at this price. At MSRP I might look towards a Les Paul Traditional instead.

    Buyer beware

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway P-90 Electric Guitar:

A very dissapointing experience from a company I used to highly admire.
It saddens me that American guitar mfg's cant build a quality product and compete in the world market.
The Les Paul DC P-90 is a total bust. Mine came with fret work so bad it was unplayable. frets choked out in 4 spots! A very noticable wood grain seam IN THE FRONT ! A nut cut so badly it wouldn't tune. Tuning machines that slipped. And intonation problems. I can't belive the lack of quality control comming out of Gibson these days. It promted me to include the following comentary.
There is a very recent trend in the Gibson think tank. The marketing guru's have decided that since their expensive top shelf offerings are not selling , why not reissue, or re-invent an otherwise popular model? The problem is...they have forgot how to reinvent themselves !
    Ask your self these questions:
Why the P-90 ? Nobody liked them in the first place !
Why the jumbo frets? Because they are easier to install and dress at the factory !
    Why only 1 tone and 1 volume control ? It's cheaper !
Like all of the Gibson models designed for "price only' buyers, this one lives up to it's reputation as a poorly designed production piece.
The only saving grace here is the inlayed headstock and the HSC.
A decent piece of wood , but so is the chassis to my 70 mustang. That doest work either !
Its not worth what your paying for it. It will never be collectable. Out it with the "also rans'.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway P-90 Electric Guitar:

Very well made and a great guitar for the price.
I had first since this guitar in about 1966 in Hawaii. My friends Dad had one and I was allowed to look at it and not touch it. It was the first year the guitar was built very old looking but very cool. I purchased one and love it, it plays well, and sounds wonderful. I am very happy with my purchase and would like to buy another one just to sell later. I couldn't find the guitar on the Gibson web site so I suppose it is out of production which, if that is true, may make it something of value later on.
